Despite a Business degree, I went through 2 down-sizings in less than 10 years, and the job market dried up. My bills didn't care about college degrees so I got a job in a factory. Took me two years to get an entry level business admin job and worked my way up to auditing. She's gonna find out playing the victim doesn't come with salary and benefits.

@heatherbishop9260 @angelamarie727 Precisely, a paycheck is a paycheck, and sometimes, we can not be too picky in order to get paid. Having another job lined up before quitting the current job is best, but also, sometimes it's not possible. Based on the time this happened, assuming, during the covid... 🤔 I wonder if her issue was vaccine related, or was she just making excuses? I have so many friends who've obtained their Bachelors, even their Masters, expected to work in their specialty field, only to find themselves working in a call center. Even myself, having many degrees, I couldn't find employment within my field, was lucky I found employment in a call center for a few years, until I finally got lucky, got a job related to one of my degrees. (I have Business and Medical Admin, HR and Health Care). I've noticed that nowadays, it's harder to get even a basic job, no degrees required. Getting the job *use to* be about ones _Qualifications,_ but now it's either or, know someone or you check the boxes for DEI. 🤔 My daughter has a few yrs to go, before she can legally work, I worry what hiring will be like for her when she starts her job hunting.

Universities have lowered standards dramatically to increase the number of victims they can attract. The two most functionally useless and stupid people I know have PhD's in Chemistry. Her inability to articulate the primary differences between mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering make it sound like she didn't finish her degree. Mechanical is designing structures, electrical is designing electronics and chemical is designing chemical processes. In my work, they are different spicialities, with mechanical and electical serving as design/maintenance functions and chemical is operational and optimising. However, I can easily do mechanical because there's a strong overlap and it's just maths. Electrical is harder, but I've had to do some of that too, but it's a very different beast.

Really depends. Chemical Engineering is easily one of those disciplines that is is hard to find a job *outside of Lab Tech* if you don't have a master level degree at a minimum. Similar to Materials Engineers.

I work at an engineering firm. We have electrical, mechanical and mission critical engineers. Totally different skill sets. You can't just jump from one to the other. There is a reason specific degrees are given for mechanical, electrical, biomedical, chemical. It's like saying an orthopedic surgeon can just go get a job tomorrow as a Nephrologist, doing kidney transplants. I'm surprised that the judge wouldn't know this.

@@mighty0974 That's true, in general. She could go get a job at a grocery store but then odds of ever getting back into the engineering field plummet. I have a feeling that there is more information we are not getting about her situation too. I'm from Wisconsin and this state is progressive in that the courts have to take into account income parity and whether one parent becomes temporarily unemployed through illness or unemployment. The working parent has to pick up the difference in some cases.

When I’ve been out of work in my line of work, I’ve taken all sorts of crappy jobs that aren’t even close to what I do. I’ve worked factory jobs packing food on low wages because it was better than sitting in the house on no wages and it kept my head above water. Asking if chemical engineering is comparable to mechanical engineering is like asking if a medical education (M.D.) is comparable is comparable to holding a PhD. Both are addressed as Dr. While one can cure disease but the other can write or educate in a specific subject such as philosophy.

As a recruiter that hires engineers - there is a HUGE difference in each specialized field and you won’t be able to be hired in a field without a degree or experience in that field. If she is a chemical engineer she needs to find that work. That being said there are always things you can do to make yourself more marketable. Has she worked with agencies, career coach, are her salary requirements too high, etc.

I mean i dont know nuch about engineering l, but i do know that its a precision based field that can result in catastrophic consequences with slight errors. See.. the thing is.. there is an ethic requirement that an Engineer doesn't represent themselves as being in a discipline outside of what they are degreed and trained in. Doing so can easily lead to death and/or serious bodily harm due to lack of expertise. That said, Haven't seen this episode and don't have a context beyond what is presented here.
