NOTES MB01: - Vyasa is the Sun in the sky of Indian Vaangmaya. Taught Dharma, meaning of Purusharthas, gave Panchama Veda: Mahabharata, classified Vedas, 18 puranas, Brahma Sutras, was significance in Guru Parampara in Sruti, and Smriti. Vyasochistam Sarvam Jagat (Whole world is touched by the saliva of Vyasa) - 'Itihasa' means "Iti Ha Asa" that means, ‘it happened exactly so’. Itihasa in a loose term means history, whereas history can only take the account of lives, but not beyond and between lives. - Only Bharatam has Maha, unlike other scriptures. Bharata has ‘bhaara’: very heavy, extremely complicated, 1 lakh shlokas, with hundreds of stories, ignores nothing; the single point agenda is ‘Dharma’, righteousness. A scholar is not a scholar if he never reads/teaches/hears Mahabharata. - Veda has sruti (tune), tone, tenner, intonation, and grammar. However panchama veda - Hinduism is not a religion. It is Sanatana Dharma, the way of life practiced as prescribed by vedas. Veda is the pramana, which is Apourusheyam (not written by anyone). - The objective of life is Moksha, which means escaping the cycle of birth and death. Humans’ deeds (karma acharana) are not bound by anone but their own souls. To channelize their karma, in the path of dharma is possible only through wisdom, prescribed by Vedas, that results in Moksha. - Dharma is what we practice after knowing (eg. Umbrella: buying one is not useful; using it keeps us protected from rain or sun). An immature fruit can mature only if it is attached to the tree. If an immature fruit detaches it fails to ripe, but once ripen, it detaches itself, which is sweet and reached its objective. Detachment has to happen only after ripening (karmacharana till ripening). Ripening is possible as long as we hold on to dharma, and at one stage we detach (moksha). - Even for a war, where, why, when and how a war can occur also is prescribed by Vedas (eg. Bhishma did sandhya-vandana in the evening in battle field with soil, as water wasn’t not around, that is dharma). - Wherever Mahabharata is read/heard/taught, Vyasa gets extremely pleased for taking special birth through ‘sadhya garbha’ of Satyavati from Parashara, and sacrificing his whole life to teach dharma to the humanity without expecting no return.
