Much more in depth than others out there. Did a lot of testing on various drive and real world tests, not just synthetic testing. Very helpful, thanks!!

If they add 32-64GB TLC instead 8GB to the SSHD they would take over SSD market, weird that its not happening

Awesome video! I was unsure about going for this SSHD but your real world tests have sold it to me. 2TB SSHD over a 4 TB 7200 rpm regular drive :) And spending all that time doing the tests...kudos! That's dedication right there :)

The SSD as the OS drive + an SSHD as the storage drive for games and such is correct. Beautiful synergy and is the bread and butter if you're not a "Quad-Zillionaire". However, if you are planning on upgrading your laptop's storage, which for most people have only one drive bay, then the Firecuda 2TB SSHD shown here would be a perfect replacement for most laptop's current standard mechanical drive. However, if money is no object, then by all means, grab that 2TB EVO. Silent, but deadly.

This is exactly what I was looking for, because I was planning on getting this drive to pair with a m.2 ssd in a mini ITX build. Instead of getting a big capacity ssd to store my media and games, I can save a few hundred dollars to go towards upgrading the gpu from a 1070 to a 1080 and the r5 1600 to the r7 1700.

30 second boot time with an SSD O.o my 850 evo boots in like 4 seconds.. Also, I think this was a great opportunity that was pissed away. I think you should have installed windows, installed all the updates and crap, and then restarted the system at least 30-50 times. Yes there is a program to automate that... THAT is when the SSHD would shine.

I noticed you did a single test for every every software load speed the sshd. Sshd are supposed to get faster loading time as the controller inside the sshd learns your most frequently use files. I believe that if you repeat the same test several times continuously on the sshd you will see an improvement each time. Could you repeat the same test and compare it to your previous scores? the performance of the sshd should be relatively close to that of the ssd. I am curious to see the results.

I am playing games at my laptop until it BSOD,when I restart the laptop the drive was gone and not even showing in device manager. Though in bios the drive is present. Hook it in another pc and still the same until on the 3rd diffrent pc it finally showed. Strange is when im playing, game's are installed on my ssd so i can't justify that it was working too hard coz like i said the game's on ssd and all it did was to page file if needed, which is rare due to my laptop having 24 gb of RAM. Do you think its defective? Im afraid to use it now because i almost lost all my data on it.

A couple things to note; The 2.5" sshd is 5400 rpm and uses SMR! The 3.5" sshd is 7200rpm and uses CMR! I would go for the 3.5". I am rewatching the video, but I dont think this was mentioned. Ive found a used 3.5" firecuda sshd, and I have been poking around for info. Probably gonna use it for a batocera drive.

Remember that even though its 5400rpm, the platter is smaller than a 7200rpm hdd so read and write speeds are actually better. I saw it for 60 bucks on amazon and grabbed the offer. It's the sort-of best of both worlds. The semi speed of an ssd plus the long term storage of an hhd.

You should update this video. I'd be nice if you could compare them all to a M dot 2 (M.2) drive. Also SSHD require a break-in period to offload the most efficient and frequently used data and now that you've used the drive a while it should be good to go.

I'm not sure about what I should do. I can replace the ODD in my laptop with the 2TB SSHD with a caddy, but it will be a bit botlenecked by the SATA I 150MB/s controller. This would add cheap extra storage but I have this feeling HDDs are really on their way out and with only 2TB drives as biggest drive choice, it does seem rather small. If only they would make 4 or 5 TB versions of these slim 9.5mm drives it would make a lot more sense to go for cheap HDD storage.

I assume you disabled the fast startup in windows 10 (a shutdown on Windows 10 is a hibernate shutdown which is not as useful for SSD and especially sshd as the hibernation file will always be different every time it is created when you shut the computer down) where an sshd will shine is once you've actually used it for more than a few months it should stay more consistent then a hdd tends to slow down (not saying it takes months for it to learn what data is accessed just it will not slow down as much compared to a normal hdd) ssds are still best option (I would not recommend anything less then 250gb as you have to keep on moving data or Install applications on the hdd)

Australian accent for English is kinda hard to understand for my Indonesian ears xD Btw you should add Ark Survival Evolved too for benchmarking loading time, that game installation is like 140 gigabytes, and the game is always bottlenecked at reading the game files from the storage I think. I just upgraded my SSD and moved the Ark install folder to my ssd and I can even crank up the gfx setting now, seems like hdd is the bottleneck and the difference is night and day. Loading time on normal hdd is like 3-4 minutes , while loading from ssd is less than a minute.

I got a SSHD in my system as one of my secondary drives and I'm absolutely loving it. =) Mind you, the firmware of that SSHD is older then the firecuda in this test, so this SSHD is probably even faster as it's written to prioritize things based on access times and not just access frequency like my old SSHD.
