The SS owner also has a LS1 Z28 It ran the exact same time as my Mach 1 when it was stock, stock vs stock our bests where dead even down to.00 seconds.
I had a 99 automatic stock Z28, buddy had a 02 manual Z28 with short throw, bilstein 1 1/2 " drop and magnaflow exhaust system... Raced 3 times from a dig... I pulled away (slowly) every time. Autos are faster in my experience on the ls1 camaro. Great video
The Mach 1 has on average about 20 more foot pounds of torque than the Cobra because of different head design. What really wakes these DOHC V8's up are some 3.73 or 4.10 rear gears. Don't fear the gear.
justin elliott no problem buddy.. I'm not going to lie I was going insane trying to figure it out myself so I had to do some high-tech advance shit to find it lmao
Indeed, as unchained mentioned. LS1's Were underrated fairly significantly. The LS1 in the corvette and the Fbody have absolutely ZERO differences. Same heads, same block, same intake, same everything. yet the vette 350 and the fbodies 310-345 depending on options and trim level. It's pretty obvious in this video as it is. If that camaro was indeed making its advertised 325 hp as an automatic, vs a 320 hp 5 speed cobra with more/better mods, the cobra should have destroyed that LS1.
why did the camaro hit the limiter if its an auto with a filter and exhaust? if he had a programmer and had the shift points messed up id understand but im gonna assume he was shifting it manually?
If that camaro would have been manual it would have done so much better. Everybody knows that the mustang was the nicer car but the camaro was the faster car from 1993 to 2002
if the Camaro was a manual it would be faster.. no.. a stalled auto with a trans brake would smoke a stick.. that's why real drag racers use autos about 90 percent
the ls1 is an awesome alluminum block motor that responds great to mods, thank you. when people say the ls1 is god of small blocks, i know what they are talking about. the 4.6 is decent... the ones that come in the mach 1 are great... but doesn't compare to the ls1. i respect that both cars were on motor and not charged...but they were still modded a little more than the camaro. everyone who has tuned thier vehicle will know that it makes a big difference in not just horsepower but speed.
Well I just bought a 92 ls1 vette and had overheating issues and it blew a headgasket a week after I bought it. I've had my 04 mach1 for 5 years and never had a single issue besides the power windows being stubborn a couple times. Those 4.6 2v/4v motors are unmatched in reliability and longevity. And the 03-04 cobra was way ahead of everything else at the time.
and what makes it so sweet is that the camaro is natural aspirated wow can you just imagine a supercharger under the hood as well like both of the fords wow it wouldnt even be a race forreal
There are a few 2002 SS cars that came from the factory rated for 385, but they're mostly 35th Anniv. package cars. For 2001-02 the rating of the SS was bumped up to 345 in most cases, due to several changes to the LS1. Prior to 01, the highest rating was 335. Corvettes equipped with the LS1 were bumped to 350 from 01-04, with torque peaking at between 370-385, and 01 LS6's were rated at 385/380, while 02-04 were 405/400, if I remember correctly.
ikeman99cobra SS needs a transmission mod. The 4L60 wasn't that quick back then. Also note the SS pulling ever single race...then Mustang driver conveniently lets off at 120. Not dogging the mustang...but you can't make excuses just for your favorite car.
+ikeman99cobra Oh yea, that cobra needed one big time. The guy bogged both launches, sounded like he launched it at 1500 rpms and shifts sounded pretty slow. When it panned to the third gear shift on the first run it looked like he just placed in in third, which is probably how the other shifts were, not banging through gears.
wow for an 02 SS taking on newer models of the Stang and keeping up with the Mach1 kinna impressive got to admit i underestimated My Chevy fellows again...Chevy FTW
+kingcrimson234 I had an 94 Z/28 with a 4 speed auto, my transmission was going to shit and sometimes when getting on it on the freeway it wouldn't shift out of 3rd and just over rev. Scared the hell out of me. i plan on getting a SS with a 6 speed manual
you mean *you're a fucking moron but please explain why ppl would be a moron in doing so? But from a roll if you have it on "drive" and driving 30mph your car is at 1500ish rpm now if you drop it to 2nd or even 1st gear your rpm's are easily at 3500-4000 where the ls1 is making a lot more horsepower
The GT40 heads are for the 289, 302, or 351W. Unless you're talking about finding heads off a Ford GT (5.4L), those heads will work but will be a difficult conversion. If you have the PI heads already then have them machined and save your money for a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous--best bang for your buck on a PI 4.6 once you've done gears and a tune is forced induction or nitrous. You could spend a ton of money building it up N/A just to make the same power as a $1500 blower would.
@gunzkevin I have an o4 mach 1 from what I hear not absolutly sure the heads are slightly diffirent and the mach1 has a fuctioning shaker hood for a little bit more power (315hp)than the n/a cobras (305hp).
Funny how both Mustangs were modded in some way. Tune that SS, especially the trans torque management. It'll eat both cars by multiple lengths. Also considering the mustangs can launch at a higher rpm and the stock SS is stuck launching from idle. Throw in a 3600 stall, see what happens. But good runs though.
Ya well i have my Mach 1 with a Bama tuned ,4:10 gears,Short throw shifter,C&L CAI,Long tubes,Full SLP LM2 Exhaust , O/R X Dynoed at 390 wheel HP and i can tell you...you better have a good tune on your SS to eat this one. 2 at the track had a SS and a ws6 tuned and all they could see was my tail lights.
Really?? A 4V with boltons and a tune pushing what a blown Cobra makes stock. Yea, right. First, your dyno lied to you, 2nd, I promise you all your mods would not run with a bolton and tuned Ls1. I've proven it many times over.
+21NSapper. Yeah, I had a built LS1 (dynoed at 493) in my full weight truck and even when it was stock it probably would have given my mach a run for its money
+Hunter Brotherton Doubt it. There are 2004 Machs that have put more rear wheel hp and torque than ls1 engines. Unless you swapped it into an s10 or something, you won't even come close.
that cobra still has the stock 3.27 gears in the rear end. i swapped mine to 4.10s and it pulls so much harder. withe the 3.27s you drop out of power when you shift to 3rd. with 4.10s i never drop below 4800 now
Camaro not only held it's own, but took the Cobra in all fair runs (the cobra false started on the 20 roll) And rhe SS is stock, and automatic. Just imagine the damage it could do with a couple basic mods. Awesome.
Oh also, my friend's LS1 that I was reffering to is a T/A 6 speed, the mach 1 is a 5 speed. I was surprised that my '82 5.0 hung with the mach at all speeds and hung with the LS1 till 70. Granted i'm a better driver but neither of my friend's are bad, and no one missed any gears. My 5.0 has MAC shorties, full exhaust(no cats), Edelbrock carb and intake manifold, MSD 6A box and Mallory distributor, MSD plug wires, Accell coil. The motor is otherwise stock and has over 150k miles, SROD trans.
Your 98 Trans Am was good for about low 13's bone stock which is what the 2001 Cobra with 320hp ran. Of course the Mustang is still here while the Trans Am isn't so I don't mean to spit on the Trans Am's grave.
its crazy how the performance changes with only intake and an exhaust on the camaros my friend has an 02 z28 slp intake and slp exhaust, crazy fuckin car man and its auto and he still beasts me everytime watch my videos you ll c
Ive seen a bone stock Mach 1 with just DRs go 13.0@105 and its rated at 305hp, hmmm was it lacking ability to transfer power to the wheels umm i think not.
If you already have a 96 with a Pi swapp the heads are already upgraded. You already have the first step towards a 2.1 KB blower. With the existing mods, the blower and hook ups a 96 would be making well over 400rwhp
that SS left the 08 GT from the exhaust video you just commented on in the dust 3-4 car lengths, that Auto is just as good as a 6-speed, GM makes one of the best auto transmissions out there.
