In a traffic accident on the A2 freeway this forenoon (June 7), a 60-year-old truck driver suffered life-threatening injuries. The accident involved two semitrailer trucks and a tractor-trailer combination. Another driver was seriously injured.
The accident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. in the westbound direction, shortly before the Kamen intersection (A2 / A1). According to the first witnesses, all three trucks were driving in the right lane one behind the other. A 60-year-old man had to brake his vehicle due to traffic. A 64-year-old driver of an semitrailer truck behind him noticed this and also braked. This was overlooked by a 60-year-old man driving behind him for reasons as yet unexplained and drove his truck with tandem trailer onto the truck of the 64-year-old man. The latter was finally pushed onto the truck in front. The driver of the white tractor-trailer was trapped in his cab in the accident and had to be freed by the fire department. A rescue helicopter airlifted him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 64-year-old (blue MAN) was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. The A2 freeway initially had to be completely closed at the accident site. Around 1:45 p.m. the left lane and around 4:10 p.m. the middle lane could be opened. All closures could only be lifted from around 4:45 p.m. onwards.
