I had same problem, then realised that that not only could the plastic part horizontal but also vertical, giving enough space for the spring to squeeze in between, I made a shim that goes between the washer and plastic,
Spring steel once stretched. Throw it in the bin bruv They loose their tensile strength. Just have a few spares or find a local and see if they can make u a dozen
yeah you're right. once stretched cant be used. But if my little mod lasts its worth looking into it as a preventative measure even when you have a new spring. Small little sleeve thats strong enough will do the trick 👌😎💪
