changing a exhaust manifold gasket looking for a strange ping its a doosey mounted on the heat shield have to take the upper manifold then the sheild off and get that egr recirc pipe out anyway i hit it with some carb spray lot of gunk come out of there after on startup from the job i heard a chirp then like a different car ok at idle but when i hit the gas it flutters and sounds like it has a bad diesel sounds cept faster whent through all the trouble think i have to replace the combi now since i freed it up it must of froze in a half closed position or open not sure is a spring broke in it or ?

The exhaust pulses can be heard even with the tubing on.

@@EXOVCDS Shouldn't the combi/SAI be (very) hot to the touch after a good drive if exhaust is leaking into the system?

It gets hot even when the valve is stuck closed... everything that is mounted to the 1.8T cylinder head gets hot. =)

@@atubebuff Sorry, my point was that since the combi valve is mounted to the cylinder head (exhaust present or not) the valve will get warm / hot to the touch due to the heat from the head / coolant. So simply touching the valve to check for heat (in my mind) is not a conclusive check / test.

My combi valve looks slightly different on my 2.0L golf. Don’t think it has a vacuum line on it. How would I check it? My relay is good, the pump works and no water in it. But have a code for incorrect flow. Thinking maybe I could test it to see if it’s stuck shut somehow?

Engine off, remove the plastic tube from the valve, attach a hose that fits snug and blow into the hose with your mouth. You should be able to blow air through the valve. If you can not, then the valve is stuck closed.

@@EXOVCDS hi, thanks for your reply. I have taken the combi valve off and blown through it. And it is coming out of the other side just fine when I blow into it. I’ve had the pipe off that goes down to the exhaust manifold and blown through that as well and that is also fine. I’ve visually inspected all the pipes and can’t see anything wrong. Any ideas? There’s no error codes other than P0411 incorrect air flow secondary air system. Starting to loose hope with it.

If you have a scan tool... monitor short term fuel trim at idle. Activate the air pump... fuel trim should go positive to 20%. Like in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4GPFeCeugNk.html If not, then not enough air is flowing into the exhaust.

Hi.. thank you for uploading this video !!! ...today my car has been idling high at 1000rpm and the noise in this video of the exhaust when your finger wasn't inside is exactly the same.. when I expected.. the smaller pipe running between the sai pump pipe and combi was broken... would this cause a high idle ???? Thanks in advance 🙏

Secondary Air Injection only last for about 1 minute after starting a cold engine. If the high idle continues for 5 or more minutes, then it is not related to SAI.

@@EXOVCDS skoda octavia mk1 vrs ... 1.8 20vt auq engine.... idles at 1000rpm for longer than 5 mins.. its also noisy (the same noise in this video and engine shakes) when I put finger in combi valve the shaking and noise stops...

i got question about 1.8T, i got passat 2001 with AWT engine, i got problem starting the car, when i turn key, car cranks but wont start. Now what i noticed is that befor while it was working properly dash showed yellow check engine and epc lights, on start all lights go out, now when i turn key to crank i got 3 beeps and abs and handbrake solid, and car wont start. Now i noticed thet while cranking if at any point dash show yellow check engine and epc lights car would start. What could be the problem? Where to look at? battery is brand new, alternator is charging at 14.6v, starter motor not tested. Pls help

Ecm power supply relay in the E-Box in the engine bay... would be my first guess / look.

I believe 370 is the ECM relay. When the check engine light is not on in the dash... leave the key in the on position and tap on / against the relay with your finger or a screwdriver handle. If the light comes on, replace the relay.

Bro I got this problem it cost me 2 SAI already because I thought it was the Cold air Intake the one sucking Water but all this time it was the EGR Valve..... 🤦‍♂️

Question. I got a 99 vw beetle 1.8t a/c is not working. Put a new compressor on and still nothing . I tried to jumpstart the compressor by using the wires from the pressure switch and still wouldn’t kick on. Can’t figure this thing out. Fans are on and working fine. Checked all the fuses and they are fine. Is there a trick to jumpstarting the compressor? I can’t get this thing to turn on and can’t figure it out

The Cooling Fan control module is what supplies power to the AC clutch (AC clutch should have a good ground all the time... brown/wht wire). Power needs to flow from the AC button, through the Pressure switch, through the Ambient Temperature switch and through the AC Cut-Out thermal switch... in order for the Fan Control module to receive the AC request signal (to turn the compressor on).
