The pressure wave is created by the pipe design. Many racers will have pipes on hand for certain track conditions, ambient air temperature and humidity. Japanese use water forming on they exhaust pipes and are genius at the math of them.

Gravity and vacuum are two different elements. No one Knows for sure what the hell the boost bottle does.

raw fuel/oil will fill the bottle if it was mounted below the engine. This would compromise the effectiveness of it. Mounted above the engine allows the raw fuel/air to flow back down into the engine. Other videos on boost bottles show raw fuel in the hose from the bottle to carb vibrating back and forth with the pulse wave.

If vacuum was the main force, the bottle could be placed under the seat , mounted onto a mirror, placed below the front tire etc. It has to be placed above the cylinder and carb of any given application. that is the rules,

Reed valve is a one way device but Yamaha years ago started to use them on their bikes and they do work. I don't really understand the exact science behind it, but, you need about the same volume in the bottle and in-line, as the CC's of the machine and it must be placed above the cylinder. It does work if it is set up right.

@@DIOSpeedDemon Thanks for your reply. I have seen several videos of these things, and if they show anything, it is that they work. One by Thunderhead 289 shows the motor running much smoother at idle with the hose connected than without and the intake fitting plugged. Another shows a clear plastic bottle with a balloon inside which is connected to the hose from the intake manifold. You can clearly see the balloon expanding and contracting according to throttle response. This is in spite of the "atmospheric" pressure of the area within the bottle surrounding the balloon. Drilling a small hole in the bottle would alleviate this, but to what effect is unclear. The third video is of something called a Malossi device (bottle) which is like a rubber can with accordion-ized sides. As the throttle is opened and closed on a running scooter engine, it causes the device to expand and contract. Clearly, it is doing some work; whether this is helpful work or not is up to the operator. All I can say is try it and see. These are available for purchase at various retailers, and can be found via a google search. It seems to act as a compensator, the volume of air passing through the intake (filter, carburettor, and manifold) has mass and inertia. The combustion cycle is a series of pulses and the the flow of the air/fuel mixture is affected by these pulses. What SEEMS to happen, is that the bottle acts as a kind of shock absorber to smooth out the air flow and make it all more efficient.

rory scanlan A bottle can take a small amount of vacuum. Carb resonant waves are small enough to store in the bottle and then be released. Think of it as a vent valve for the reeds.

The volume of the bottle along with the intake hose, should be very close to the cc's of the engine. I have never heard it should be twice. Where can I look that up? I learn something new every day. Thanks Eugen. RICK

"The primary purpose of the buffer volume used in the Yamaha Energy Induction System was to achieve a more constant flow velocity through the carburettor, helping mixture control. As an additional advantage, engines with a relatively small carburettor would produce a little more power with this system. On engines with a big carburettor the value of YEIS is negligible. Rules of thumb: buffer volume about twice the cylinder volume, connecting hose diameter about 0,7 times the carburettor diameter. You can then establish the optimum hose length experimentally; all you'll need is a pair of scissors. The hose should be connected as close as possible to the reed valve and it should be connected to the lowest point of the buffder volume in order do avoid the formation of a fuel puddle in the buffer volume."

I first heard about this in like 1980 when motocross bike mags were showing how to build the bottle and install it. I installed one on my brand new 1981 Yamaha Yz watercooled 125. I paid 1500 dollars for the bike and watched them build it out of the crate. The bottle worked great, even though we did not have the information available with the internet to compare results. Those were the Days- Roger Decoster and Marty Smyth, battling it out for the 500cc motocross championship before my eyes. I was lucky enough to see them compete along with a really new kid for Yamaha- BoB Hurricane Hannah. Those guys could ride! Happy new years and Happy Christmas. RH DSD

Bullshit. Boost bottles were made for 2 stroke racing bikes, I had on on my 1976 RM 125 Suzuki moto crosser.

Yes it works great IF you get the Volume of the bottle correct for the engine size AND place the bottle ABOVE the engine cylinder.

Yamaha developed this concept in 1978 I believe, it works great IF it is set up correctly. One Yamaha model an IT I believe had the bottle built into the factory frame under the stock gas tank.

Yes there is back pressure. Boost bottle were developed by Yamaha in 1978 for all their 2 strokes. look it up.

The Reeds prevent any of the back pressures from escaping the Engine Case. That's there purpose in life. Not so with a Reed less Port operating engine.

Except it does something because if you squeeze the pipe while it idles the engine will turn off ....i know this happens i just don't know why

+PIXYBASHER and coojsta69 - Boost bottle is not a "scam" to steal your money. But uneducated use of it can lead to think like that. ;-) Just for analogy you guys can study how a capacitor works in conjunction with an electric motor, very similar. ;-) Try it on single cylinder 2 stroke and you'll be amazed. Try it on a full blown high tech late model EFI V8 and you'll be saying it doesn't work. ;-) First it was developed mainly for 2 stroke engines. Second when properly set up the mix can be leaned a lot on the carburetor. That's where the smoother running, lower emissions and economy comes from. Study a bit of fluid dynamics, it will then be crystal clear. ;-) BTW That's why the engine die when the tube is pinched, the mix is so lean on the carb that when pinched the extra mix stored in the bottle/hose is not available and cut's the engine. ;-) Always say this to disbelievers pick a 2 stroke RC, moped, anything single cylinder 2 stroke, without boost bottle. Had one set up the carb accordingly and go for a ride. Results will speak for themselves. ;-)
