I have watched a ton of videos on this now and read alot and I have a firm grip. Thank god for your videos it was a big piece of putting together the puzzle. I use a dx6e so I could probably help alot of people, first anybody using the 6e forget about using a switch for the gain channel to figure out your rates. A much easier way is to assign a 3 way switch to 3 flight modes. The first flight mode will have AS3X off, the second can you the defaults 40 50 60, and the third uses say 60 75 90. Use flight mode 2 and 3 and see how the plane reacts. Land and add or subtract gain to each flight mode until you get it where you want it. Tedious but much simpliar then translating it to a %
Many thanks! I had a spare 637TA here and tried putting it in a new sailplane. The elevator servo had to be reversed resulting in AS3X and SAFE moving the servo in the wrong direction. Your videos on unlocking the receiver and then setting it up were invaluable. My transmitter is a Spektrum NX8 with menus very different from yours, but I figured it all out. This is my first time going through the process. Now the elevator is working correctly, and I have learned a ton about all the options available for AS3X and SAFE. May thanks for sharing!
Ok, I finally got it set up. I have a DX6e transmitter. For anyone having issues updating the software, use a memory card (my mini one with adaptor did not work). It may take a little work updating it, but it is key, then follow his steps setting up. Not too hard really.
Wonderful presentation & very helpful. I have two models, other than the Eflite Jets & prop that have SAFE, which is what I love flying on. I do have an FMS Yak v2 & Avanti which I fly on an Admiral with Gyro but a bit uneasy as I love flying scale. I hope this receiver could help these two in easy SAFE flying. Keep safe & well. The Dog seems to understand it all!
I just did the programming for 3 AR637T’s. I painfully watched the 14 step Spektrum video. The first plane I did, I did wrong/screwed it up. I think the 3rd or 4th time through I got the plane setup correctly with AS3X, Safe/and 3 flight modes. If I had to help someone or start over with programming, is watch your video, (I did) watch the Spektrum AR637T video as well, without the AR637T in a plane, just watch the video to their completion. By the time I got to programming the 3rd AR637T I didn’t need to watch the step by step, I had it figured out, which switches and knob I was going to use etc. I did the programming first on an ix12 for all three planes. Then I came back and setup up the receivers on a DX-8. I’m not very smart, probably have some undiagnosed learning disorder, but it really helped watching everything through without trying to program at the same time.
HI Miguel! Fantastic presentation for AR637T Setup . I two questions...1. Can you still set up your Hi/Lo Rates on a separate channel.? with out affecting the AS3X setup? 2 I think you explained it but to make sure....Am I setting up a SEPERATE AS3X Gain GYRO channel and a SEPERATE SAFE SETUP channel? So I can turn off the SAFE SELECTs ....Envelope etc...and have just a AS3X GYRO channel? hope that makes sense. Cheers
Unfortunately, it's very hard to show this on a DX radio as I cant screen share it like I can the iX20. You may have to pause in between different sections, as getting to the menus is a little different on DX, but the process is pretty much exactly the same. Once you're actually in forward programming, there should be no difference between the two.
you got that right dx6 here and very confusing and complicated. it looks like i'm going to have to drop some serious money on a ix 12 or just go with a standard receiver.
@@MiguelFAlvarez I may have to disagree with your statement. I have a DX9 Black and have done the programming with the AR636. What you show in the vide seems to be simple using the ix20, but provides very little help for the other 99% of the Spektrum users that are using the Dx9. Is it possible to make one video just for the DX9 users? Most people will be very thankful and happy with Spektrum.
Thank you for these videos.. I'm going to be putting a AR637T into my eFlight Viper 70mm.. What would you suggest for starting Gains for AS3x and Safe?
Me air Marshall sir I have a BNF otter the as3x is on when you plug the plane in but goes off when you turn the radio on! I have tried to go through forward programming and re set it but it just says connection failed, I don't understand where the problem is, it has drove this old man crazy, I figure some thing simple, ! If you have any suggestions I am all ears! Thanks sir.
I am following this step by step. However, when I move my plane, all surfaces show AS3X as working and in the correct direction; but, unlike you, my IX20 monitor screen doesn't show the surfaces deflecting with the AS3X correction. My monitor only shows stick input.
I have a stock eFlight Valiant with an BNF AR636 that I want to migrate to AR637T. Can I simply reuse the AS3X and SAFE gain values from the 636 when programming the AR 637T, and expect the same performance? If not, any guidelines on how to migrate?
About 2 weeks ago I finally got my iX20. Ordered it April 5th. Had also ordered the AR637T and built the plane I plan on using it in yesterday. After binding, I get a warning. Receiver signal strength 0%. Do you think it's a bad receiver. I have used Spektrum for quite some time. The package had the staple removed and the cardboard insert holding the receiver in place had been taped. Plan on contacting to Horizon tomorrow as I believe the sent me something that had been returned. Any thoughts?
Have you uploaded the latest AirWare software? It’s version 2.05 and includes the Forward Programming Menu item. Personally it took me ages to find that out - why it isn’t obvious on the Website or in the Manual is not very sensible! One line would save all the hassle of trying to find out what to do!
Yes, it will work as a normal receiver before first time setup. Some people might feel very confident with their bench setup without any flying first, but I definitely recommend flying first to make sure all control surfaces, travel, dual rate, etc are properly setup as desired, as changing those items afterwards might require using the Relearn Servo Settings after setup.
You wont be able to configure stability with a DX8 gen 1. However it could be configured with a different radio, and then bound do the DX8 G1, but again, you wouldn't be able to tweak settings if needed.
Wait. I think I answered my own question. Is it.... because what safe is doing requires servo inputs, just like a movement I'd make from the ground. Only, the person giving the commands is actually a processor in the airplane. Is that right?
We require it to make sure the user has a way to switch out of the SAFE flight mode in case something is setup incorrectly on its initial setup (bad orientation, bad attitude trim, or gains too high). Once you've done the SAFE setup and have confirmed everything is working correctly, you could definitely un-assign the flight mode channel and just have it with SAFE enabled all the time if thats really what you want. I still think its always good to have a way to switch out of SAFE in case the receiver comes loose in the model.
Why isn't my AR637T gain working? when i move the plane its not doing anything and i see the RKnob moving on the monitor going from -100 to +100 im using a IX12
@@MiguelFAlvarez Thank you, I had unplugged my pack cause my esc was beeping and when i tried it it didn't work because i forgot to move the throttle above the 25%. I got part one finished, i flew it and got my gain number, i put on a switch, getting ready to watch the rest of it again to set up the rest. Thanks again for the videos, you have made.
Hi Miguel, thanks for the good Video! Is it possible to use one channel for aileron in the transmitter and have the ar637t do the output for the two aileron servos? Many BNF models like the Conscendo have such a setup and this enables on a dx6 channel 5 for flight mode and channel 6 for panic mode.
Unfortunately, this isn't possible, as the receiver behaves more as a passthrough for transmitter channels coming in, rather than behaving as a channel processor like the 636 does. However, you could always have one of your flight modes be a SAFE mode for auto leveling purposes. I know it's not the solution you're looking for, but it would be the next closest thing.
There kind of is a work around to this, but it is very risky and it is quite a tedious process. The reason I say it's risky is because you'll have no way to shutoff the gyro in the air if you set your gains too high. I personally would highly advise against it. I won't go through the trouble of explaining how to work around this, as I'd rather you not take the risk and end up destroying your model. However, if you watch all the videos and understand how the system works, you might be able to figure out how to work around. Maybe even somebody else will figure it out and explain it, I just don't feel ok doing it myself.
I'm using a Dx8 G2 and everything is going great until I try to set up Flight Modes. At that step I can only select Aux 3 which I previously selected for the AS3X gains. Aux 2 isn't listed as an option so I kink of stuck. Any idea why Aux 2 isn't listed as available?
Good luck. Find a mentor. Spektrum videos assume you were part of the design team. Brian Phillips has some good unboxing vids with DX set ups. I would pay to go to a workshop. Or a zoom format
Is the AR637T incompatible with the DX7 G2? I have a DX6 G3 with firmware 2.05 that works perfectly with my AR637T. But my DX7 G2 with the same firmware version 2.05 is only able to bind with it but then the telemetry and thus forward programming does not work.
Can you go to System Setup -> System Settings, press next til you see the serial number, then select the version number on that page, which should take you to a page called Version Data. Can you share what it shows on the left column? Should be Airware:..., RF PID: ..., etc
And btw, I did grab a DX7 G2 with the same firmware from the office, and it worked fine for me, so I don't think it's a bug that we missed with the DX7 G2 update
@@MiguelFAlvarez I just checked that: My DX7 G2 binds with an AR6600T and receives all its telemetry data. The same DX7 G2 binds with the AR637T. During binding the telemetry link is announced and indicated. But then there are no values for RSSI, neither for vario, neither for altitude. Only the rx voltage is displayed but with a value of 2,2V. But it is 5,3 in reality. The auto config function in the telemetry does not provide any of the expected sensors. I do have the EU version of the DX7 G2 which only binds with 22ms. For some unknow reason this tx supports only 22ms. Could this be the reason? Can you check with a EU tx (SPM7000EU)?
