#10 Arkansas rallies to defeat former head coach Bobby Petrino and the Bears, 38-27. It was the first meeting between the two squads since 2011 and the win improved the Hogs to 8-0 in the all-time series.
A few thoughts: 1. Bobby still has it. Called a great game and has a well coached squad. 2. Defense made plays when they had to and was dominant in the fourth other than one play due to poor tackling technique. Tackling has to get fixed by the secondary or it will cost us a game or more. The amount of YAC being put up is absurd. I think we will have a solid defense if that is corrected. Defensive line and linebackers were solid, although Bumper had an off game. 8 sacks!! 3. Other than the bizarre fourth and nine call, no complaints about the offense. The fumbles/drops were very uncharacteristic. Hard to be upset about 600 yards of offense. Pass pro was excellent. 4. I hate that the broadcast did such a poor job of showing how electric/loud the crowd was in the fourth. The punt return might be the loudest I've ever heard that stadium.
I think the defense does deserve a little more credit. If our offense played like we expected them to (minimal turnovers), our defense would have been much more rested. We were also pretty close to intercepting it a couple times, and with the amount of pass attempts they had they're kind of luckily they didn't have one. Take away the turnovers and I think we win by 3 more scores.
Always appreciate your videos! Idk if he could since he’s been HC since 2002, but if Petrino could handle being just an OC/QB coach, would you want CSP to hire him down the line?
@@zeldafan1942 Replacing Kendal Briles, one of the top Offensive Coordinators in College football, who has done an amazing job at Arkansas, because the offense had one bad half of a football game would be an all time stupid move.
Bobby petrino is one of the greatest coaches of the 2010s and was able to get several transfers from division 1 schools..good schools on top of that, I knew this was going to be a much closer game than on the surface level
I’ve heard a lot of negativity around Arkansas’ defense in this game, but they were on the field for the majority of the time. Especially early on, Arkansas just kept turning the ball over and forcing the defense to get back on the field.
Wasn't just the turn overs that put the gassed defense. I think there was two touch Downs that ran in like 3 plays to get the ball down. Then add the punt return and that's 3 times the defence had no break and had to get back to work. Add the two turn overs and that's 5 times they didn't get a break. The defence deserves more credit. And 8 sacks in the game? How hard do you want them to work?
That Bryce Stevens punt return gave me flashbacks to my childhood... yall know what I'm talking about. Top 10 game when it really felt like we needed some flare, and we got Joe Adams' houdini play. Same sideline too
#1 We won. #2 We did a lot of good things - 8 sack’s, monster hits, total offense, come from behind win. Our D made stops when it was go time. Yes we have some clean up to do. The team should not be listening to the point spread, and the prognosticators that we will win by 4 TD’s - for any game. That’s what rookie freshman do. Focus on ALL the positive stuff we did. In Sam we trust.
They beat Missouri state.. they’re supposed to win that game and were behind the majority of it. Pretty pathetic actually. Who the hell is Missouri state? Arkansas isn’t that good of a team.
@@DoctorGaga87 Turnovers happen man. Really killed our momentum. Could’ve been a different story. Granted, wasn’t our best and didn’t look pretty but a few plays going how they were supposed to and it’s a totally different game.
Well, our secondary is the weakness and petrino knows how to pass the ball, wasn’t ideal but after watching that I’ll take a win no matter what it looks like. 3-0 is still 3-0
That fourth and one, I knew it was coming. Play action, tight end out wide open, touchdown. He ran that every chance he got at Arkansas, and Chris Gragg got easy tds from it. I screamed at my TV hoping they'd hear me. BP is a good coach, and offensive genius, he should be coaching top 25 somewhere.
A lot of people down on Arkansas now People don’t realize that over 26 players for Missouri state once played at a power 5 team This game was like playing a TCU or a Michigan state Don’t start to doubt this program
Agreed, Bobby will once again be the coach of a top 25 FBS team in the next 5 years imo. This game definitely showed how bad we need Catalon and Slusher. If those two come back healthy soon, I think our defense will be just fine. Could be the first time in a long time that there doesn't seem to be a glaring weakness somewhere on the field, we desperately need them against A&M next Sat. A&M is going to be looking to make a statement and if we don't have either improvement or those two back from injuries, could be a very long day
The defense better do nothing but tackling drills all week. Way too many missed tackles, nevertheless they stepped up and made plays in that fourth quarter and I'm just glad we won and hope this put us in the right frame of mind against A&M.
@@Zdman2001 On KJ's fumble I can give him a pass because he had gotten facemasked right before he was hit and I'm sure that was the cause for him but Rocket should've had both hands on that ball on his run. He just got a little sloppy but it's all things that can be cleaned up.
3 years ago with Chad Morris when being down 17-0 that would've been game over. We wouldve panicked, and lost 50-10. Thats what makes Pittboss great. He rallied the team and got them to keep fighting.
Arkansas needs to come into every game being the hunter and not the hunted. In other words, don't come out conservative, loosen up and got get the win. That is what I see in championship teams, watching Georgia and hearing what Kirby had to say after the South Carolina beat down. He said, we came out as the hunters and not as the hunted. To me, that is all you need to do. Still, i think this is a game we needed. Any other team folds under the pressure MO state brought. Now lets be the hunters!!!
Our team will get things together and get going real good. Our front 7 is one of the best in the country and u know every team is going to try and throw on us instead of run cause of the injuries. But look at the bright side. If was just a short time ago that if we went down like that to anyone they would have shut down and lost the game. This team is way more ready and determined this year. Great job team and coaches. Go hogs baby next is A&M. Love the videos.
10:21 that punt return is just like the one joe adams had multiple times under petrino. Same side of the field & all. That’s crazy to think about. & against petrino out of all ppl
Coming in from behind to get this game has to be awesome . Actually I take the win anytime . Bobby team were putting up a good game and we got away with it
I think we dialed up a game plan to try to cruise through the “easy” games but it backfired when MO State showed they came to play.. I think we will see more advanced play calling especially entering these important conference games ! The deep ball is there and kj will put it where it needs to be for our guy to get it.. I’d like to see more of it 💯
Good wins are circumstantial and matters of opinion, this was a good win. Especially a good win because Mo St had a chance to win and lost, which stings even more. Petrino is a tool who deserves the heartbreak, he has not been a great human most of his life.
@@taylorhartman2085 You need to talk to the Louisville Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons organizations if you don't believe the Razorbacks. Petrino was fired by the Razorbacks FOR CAUSE, if you didn't know or choose not to remember. Apparently, some fans don't mind being lied to and cheated, so they crawl back to lap up some more.
Not necessarily trying to throw hate here but Arkansas still needs to get it together we won’t beat A&M, Bama, BYU, Auburn (well maybe) etc. playing like this we still need to improve we came back and won and that’s great but we can’t afford to play certain teams like this 🐗
I’ve been waiting to say this, but is it just me or is the defense not playing with that same fire like last year. Granted they’re still making plays but I’m not seeing everyone run to the ball. I’m still glad the hogs came out with the win. But they need to tighten up both sides of the ball. You can’t start slow against good teams.
Yes they are. The problem is there are 2 or 3 players that cannot tackle in space. There have been quite a few 3rd and long plays since the start of the season that were able to be converted simply because of a missed tackle short of the first down line.
@@esgarjimenez2273 they had 8 sacks in one game. They are plenty fired up. They just have a problem right now where they can’t get off the field on 3rd down. It’s fixable, but time will tell if they can fix it.
Petrino has a knack of embarrassing Arkansas eh? Though I feel like he did prove one thing and showed all of us that he deserves respect as a coach. Can’t say I like him for his choices and mistakes, but goddamn that man knows what he’s doing
Everyone makes mistakes. He made one big mistake. He regrets that mistake. It was over a decade ago. His family has forgiven him, and I forgave him a long time ago as a Razorback fan. I just hope Auburn does not hire him. lol
I think we are thinking about Texas am next week. And thought this would be a easy win. But it wasn't at all. Then they woke up and said we better win this thing. Lol. All the Hogs are thinking about is beating sec teams. But this was a good comeback win. WPS!!
After the game, after the coach hug , you can read Petrino's lips saying "Call me ... just call me." I write this after Petrino's hiring at the UofA. So, I wonder what the "call me" was about.
imagine if we had a time machine ,went back in time and got matt jones to play against arkansas pass deffense he would have a field day with a faris wheel
They should of passed comming out of the gate.. instead they wanted they wanted to run for the first 2 plays throw on 3rd and long then punt. They should of started blitzing out of the gate also. Plain vanilla and BP knew that. THey thought they would dominate running. Turnovers, lousy tackling didnt help. Sometimes you have to establish the run by throwing first. Like he said he was "out coached"
We could have lost this game, this just shows no team "deserves" to win ever. ESPN fpi gave Arkansas a 99.5% chance of winning, that means Missouri State should win 1 out of every 200 times. Thank God this wasn't the case.
@@jjsteel43 The Missouri State players were coached to hit the football with their helmets and shoulder pads and to try to tear the ball away during tackles, and that's what they did. It's not illegal, and offensive players should expect it.
I'm glad Petrino didn't get the last laugh like Morris did 2 yrs ago. And when it got to 17-0, I wondered if Morris was on our sideline. Hopefully, we can correct the errors and get a 2nd straight W against A&M. EDIT: Now Bobby knows what it was like for the teams he barely beat in his first 2 games in Fayetteville.
I dont get it sometimes, last year vs Ole Miss he called pretty well with a good mix of run and pass, but now its like we force to run the ball sometimes knowing damn well if we just let KJ throw we can light a defense up.
If Briles ever gets a head coaching gig somewhere, I hope Sam calls Bobby and brings him back! He deserves it. Maybe, Bobby wants to finish what he started at Arkansas. And that's to win a Championship! If so, I'd say that would be payment enough and redemption.
