I love both of them. If you already read the books it wouldn't be fun to watch the show b/c it would be surprising. Changes are important to keep the show fun
Marie C but always the same result. They just change up how you get to it, which I like cuz I’ve read all the books and it wouldn’t be fun b/c even though I know what happens in the book the show keeps me guessing
I kinda just look at the show and the book as to different things but I totally understand how it could be annoying if thing from the book are changed or aren't mention.
Anjali Mohan I want moooore Malec scene in the books I started to read because of Malec.. I’m a bit disappointed. I don’t really like Clary in the books I don’t understand why Cassandra skipped the first Malec kiss
Actually Cassandra Clare is writing a trilogy only for Malec called The Eldest Curses. In the TV show Malec comes too fast and it isn't well developed like in the books. The TV show is like "Yeah, first of all there is a gay love story and than we have Valentine and Sebastian", but in the books Malec is in second place (in the first trilogy even in third placee) and the actual lore comes first. If we compare the disaster that they did in the show with the other characters with Malec, they're not that bad, but Alec and Magnus in the books are better than this discreet representation of them. This is my opinion as a fan of the books that cringed a lot watching the TV series.
I guess their love story was more lackluster in the show, but I believe that's the point. Romance is a big part of the world, but it's also a big cliche. Besides, if we got more Clace time we wouldn't have as much Malec or the Jordan/Maia/Simon. I think Clary and Jace's love story taking a backseat is the perfect sacrifice to flesh out LITERALLY everything else.
The most illogical one: Jocelyn DOES NOT DIE IN THE BOOKS. She actually wakes up after all the drama of Jace and Clary being siblings, and immediately tells them they are not, because she remembers her son and the cruelty in him didn't exist in Jace.
And also, she and Isabelle ended up getting really well in the books. Sure, the begin wasn't so good, but so it was with Alec as well. In the books, they got to a point where a lot of us fans asked Cassandra if Izzy and Clary would be parabatai.
The only reason why Jocelyn died is because Clary is supposed to become/be a hero and in order for someone to become a hero they need to go through adversity. The death of parents is also apart of becoming a true adult. They felt that was something that would push Clary through 2A in a compelling manner. They even asked Cassandra if it was okay and she Approved and even said "it was a cool way to execute Clary's journey as a hero"
Same. I watched the movie first, then read the book and then watched the show. The greenhouse scene was perfectly done in the movie and it was magical, just like in the book. I was eager to watch the show but their first kiss was disappointing as well as the first half of the season 1
The way it was described in the books: Jace is like gold, which is popular because of its outer appeal. Alec is like silver, isnt as popular as gold, but its actually a lot stronger. So its a matter of perspective, Jace used his looks to succeed in battles and stuff too, but Alec didnt really care about vanity, but he could be a lot sexier than Jace if he actually made efforts to follow a tedious beauty routine like Jace does. But in the show Alec s just the hottest, big time.
Have you read the way Magnus describes Alec??? Maybe it’s because I have a think for the main characters best friends in book but I always liked Alec more description wise and personality wise. Also I like that he looks like Will and Cecily
The change in jace really annoyed me. In the book he's hilariously self-centred and has great sarcasm and one-lines. It gave him a lot more depth. Who agrees?
I don't like Jace's personality in the show. The whole reason I liked him in the first place is because his character is very dynamic and his humor gives us some comedic relief from all the seriousness. His self-centered personality makes him all the more likable, strangely.
I agree, that's why i think that the movie Jace did a better job portraying him. Jamie had this sarcastic and "don't even worry about it" vibe and was fitting the book Jace perfectly
As someone who read the books first, I wasn’t that disappointed at the appearances of the actors. Yes I was wary of the acting in the first season but it got better as the season went on and I love the show so much
ashley rodriguez same but honestly now I kind of like how they look it will never be exact but it’s the vibe I imagined in my head when reading the books
So the acting and the show in general gets better? I've only watched the first episode and it's definitely some shitty acting haha, I loved the books so much I just didn't know if that love will ruin the show for me.
they're probably talking about all of the series (TMI, TID, and TDA) and the short stories (Shadowhunter Academy and Bane Chronicles) when they say "Shadowhunter books"
1. Actually Matzie is not in the books. She's an invented character like Lydia Branwell. 2. Simon's not turned into a Vampire in the third episode but at the very end or episode seven. 3. In the books it is said that if a mundane drinks from the Mortal Cup they can become a Shadowhunter but the process is dangerous, because many mundanes will die before one is turned into a Shadowhunter. And that's the same in the show. The real difference is that in the show if you have the Mortal Cup you can control demons. 4. Even in the show Jocelyn went to Magnus Bane in order to have Clary's memories of the Shadow world cancelled. 5. In the show Ragnor Fell's skin is not green because in the cooks we don't see him at all. Ragnor only appears in the first episode of Magnus Bane Chronicles and the show runners don't have any rights over those books so they cannot mention or describe any of their characters. They just could do it with Ragnor because he was mentioned in the Mortal Instruments but they had no permission to describe him the way he really looked like.
I’m usually a “the books are better” person but the show holds such a special place in my heart. After the first season you could tell they improved on so much and I think it was a better reflection of the society we live in now especially with all the references to mental health and addiction. The books are amazing, no doubt about it, but Malec is so important to me as not only a fan but a queer fan and I think the show and their casting of Harry and Matt were perfect and their chemistry as well as the chemistry between all the couples was phenomenal. I also found the plot in the show to be focussed more on the things I loved and found enjoyable but that’s just me.
Actually Cassandra Clare said she chose the pronunciation " stelay" for the tv series because most people pronounced it that way. So basically it can be pronounced however we like. I used to pronounce it "steelie" until i decided that " stelay" sounded cooler lol
They were going to give him gold eyes but once they picked Dom they said his eyes were already very unique so they only wanted to give him a gold eyes when he is activating his runes
I know but the actors are freaking handsome im not going to complain about eye colour, also Jace actor has this amber spot in one eye (heterochromia) that makes the unique
Scenes that were better in the movie than in the show: -The greenhouse scene -Jace finding Clary’s drawings -Isabelle and Clary talking about Jace like. “So are you two dating?” -The scene where Clary wears a short black dress and Jace pulls a pin out of her hair.
Wtf Jace never "decided" to "team up" with Valentine. In the books he thinks he is evil, and his upbringing made him that way, but he always stood up against Valentine. In the show, he only went with him to protect his friends. He "sacrificed" himself for the sake of the others so they could save the world.
Weird that she didn't mention the physical differences between book malec and tv malec. In the book, Magnus is a lot taller than Alec. And Alec has blue eyes instead of brown. (But I thank the casting directors decided not to stick with the book Malec otherwise we wouldn't have Harry Shum Jr and Matt Daddario in our lives) Which means, the MOVIE malec (Godfrey Gao and Kevin Zegers) was actually more accurate. But the movie sucked so it doesn't really matter anyway..
Daddario and Shum are epic and absolutely stunning both physically and talent wise. Gao and Zegers though fell completely flat and were two dimensional. It felt very much like they were reading lines and it's like...yeah OK, whatever. Going to go back to Shum Jr now thanks, because just the way he moves is so pretty. and Personally I'm a sucker for brown eyes over blue and Daddario is so much prettier xD
@@Kaiexists966 according to the wiki pages which follow the books it's a 2 inch difference...which isn't much at all. But I've yet to read the books for myself
"Some of the scenes r different than the books" lol MOST of the scenes r different, but if u look at them as two separate things then the show is fine, but if u want an adaptation thats really similar to the books, then ull be disappointed
The show said a mundane would die if they drink from the cup and isn’t strong enough for the transition but if they are strong enough they become Shadowhunters
Inaa akkk no. That's only if mudanes have runes on them. If they're strong enough to survive the transformation after drinking from the cup, they become shadowhunters
I thought the acting in general across the board sucked, but I haven't watched last episode 1. Does it get any better? The books were so good, but the show seems to suck.
I missed the fact that they skipped WHOLE Alicante with the frickin' Demontowers in City of Glass. That was just awesome and so sad that they've cut it out. Also, though it is a minor change, Sebastian's hair was supposed to be black, Jonathan's was blonde. Hairdye was probably too much work/costly 😅
Two words: Budget constraints. All those scenes would be too expensive to shoot, since in the book, it was quite a few paiges long. Btw, sorry for late reply :-/
Yes! And what was big shock to my, the institute! In the books, they said a lot the institute an old building, almost like a church! But in the show the institute was fucking modern! I don't know why aren't they said this in the video because it's a big thing!
You do realise that the movie had far more dfferences in right? The acting in it was terrible and it dd so badly that they had to scrap "City of ashes" that they had in the works
Ruby Bloodstone so was the original script for city of bones. That screenplay I bought off eBay was terrible. The director made a lot of changes that made the move at least somewhat better. I heard that they didn't make the second one because the director decided to drop out of the series. But yes, I did hear that that 2nd screenplay sucked.
How dare you call Luke meek! Did you know Valentine set him up to become a werewolf after Luke defied him? In the side novel the Bane Chronicles, Magnus encounters the Circle a short while before Luke was turned. They were trying to hunt down werewolves after Valentine convinced them those were the ones who killed his father. As Luke discovered Valentine was secretly torturing a werewolf child when he entered the room Valentine was in, he rescued the child, scolding Valentine for it and taking it to the mother, letting them free. Magnus thought he misjudged Luke, and that he was probably the only one in the Circle with a heart, but that he wouldn't survive it. As that was when Valentine decided Luke should be taken care off. Luke also fought several times to protect Clary with his pack, and had no problems with shooting Sebastian/Jonathan with a gun, even though he was going to be his stepfather. Luke was a kind man, but he was not meek.
You got things wrong. First of all, even in the show, Katerina was blue, she used a glamor to cover it up, though. Next, the series never said that if a human drank from the cup they would definitely become a shadowhunter. A lot of the time they will die, not all transform. That's WHY it's illegal to use it. The show didn't get that wrong.
I'm sorry, but you wrong. They said good, if you drink from the mortal cup you become shadowhunter. Otherwise they aren't had a big trouble about loosing the mortal cup, but they had because there are just few shadowhunters already.
The show itself is a good stand alone show and a pretty good adaptation. It gets the important parts from the books in there, but since it is an adaptation, in my personal opinion, I feel that its ok that the director changed some things. Some tv/movies change so much *cough* Percy Jackson *cough* because they're lazy and/or didn't understand the source material, but you can tell that the director is trying to keep the characters similar to their roots. Also that thing with the mortal cup, They totally say that it can change mundanes into shadowhunters. There's even a scene where they do it. ...Also Malec is amazing btw
MalickaNeya And the show didn't say that a human will die if they drink from the cup, the show said that a human has an extremely high chance of dying from it, but will be a shadowhunter if they live (this bothered me: to get the number of new shadowhunters that Valentine has in season 2, he would have nearly had to have all the humans in New York drink from the cup, considering that over two-thirds of the candidates should have died according to their own rules!) This is pretty much the same in the books, aside from the fact that the books say that intense training and preparation help your chances.
But thats why Valentine started looking for the fittest candidates to turn into shadowhunters. So that's why he had so much people, he increased the chances to succesfully turn humans into shadowhunters without the risk of half of them dying.
They did make a distinction. In one episode the shadowhunters purposely check fight clubs and gyms because that's where Valentine recruits his "army". And they explain that he does that to lower the risk of them dying.
The Mortal Cup kills even in the books bc mundanes rarely survive the transformation. Same is explained in the show AND even showed how Valentine uses it to create new shadowhunters. Not sure the case with Ragnor, but even in the books Catarina has to glamour herself due her mundanes work. In s3e2 it is shown that she in fact is blue once the glamour is gone.
There's more Malec at least so there's that. Oh and we've seen Catarina's blue skin in the show, they just wear glamours. Next time I suggest you catch up to all of season 3A before making comments like those.
More but worse malec. Other then low quality sgow, they changed especially magnus so much both physically and personality-wise that many scenes made me cringe. He really wasn't like the book Magnus which really disappointed me. But for some people who didn't read the books or don't mind the changes it might be good anyway 🤷
@@Lisa-vj1cg I actually preferred show Malec. How young Alec was in the books made me cringe... and I thought show Magnus was spot on. He didn't look exactly as described in the books but I thought he got Magnus' personality perfect.
That is so true if you are going to say you are a die-hard fan then you should pronounce it properly or is just stupid of she might not have actually watched the movie and is just trying to make others hate it
oh well lots of people pronounce things like that differently in their heads just because they say it different in a way that makes sense to them doesn't make them any less of a fan.
I was damn annoyed by how she pronounced the word "stele" it is not "steel" its pronounced "steley" okay?! Urg it was so infuriating...and one more thing Catarina is blue, but because she has a job as a nurse she had to hide her warlock's mark, her blue form almost showed on season 3 when they had a party at Lorenzo Ray and Lilith started messing with the laylines
BelleBeauty thank you!!! I was about to think that I have been pronouncing it wrong for the last three years of reading the books over and over!!! (Yes I am that obsessed with the BOOK series)
I read the books and i'm happy with the changes they've made in the show. Keeps things fresh and interesting. :) Also, I always felt the ages in the book were a little ridiculous... having them a bit older makes more sense.
I really like, how they made things different. At first I watched the tv show and love it! After I finished season 3 , I bought the books and love them too. It's cool to see, how the same things happened in completely different ways. They didn't copy the books like the movie does, they make their own story with the same end. That's cool.
Harry Potter is a great example and same is Game of Thrones. That show is massive and readers kept the secrets for themselves I mean look at the red wedding!
Sure they would but fans always love it when tv shows or movies come to life and are actually like the books. Its like their visions of characters and the way the characters act come to life. But when someone makes it completely different it upsets us because we think we will finally find one of the rare tv shows and movie that are actually like the books.
I think that while they changed some things, they still stay rather true to the books. The plot is still happening chronologically, like with how Valentine and Raziel happened, then Jonathon's death, now with Lilith's arc. It's interesting because with the slight deviations as a book reader I am still sometimes shocked. However, I think they go closer to the books in the past two seasons.
Let the books be the books and the tv show be the tv show. Adaption for tv needs a whole lot more in order to capture audiences and keep them interested. I loved the books and now I love the show. It’s great to see how they expand the stories and we get more new content rgd the characters we love so much. What’s so bad abt that?
also, keeps us guessing and exciting because if they stay true to the book, we would know whats going and know what will be expected in the next episode. that will kind of boring
I actually like Clary and Isabelle's relationship in the books. At first, it was rocky, but because both of them were jealous of each other. Once they got all that straightened out, they became like sisters.
I felt that the movie was a bit more accurate than the Tv show and I liked it better. It's too bad they didn't make any more movies :( I was also hoping to watch that period of time in the books when Jace was working with Sesbastian but I don't think it's going to happen.
I know! I was really mad when they changed it to Clary! I wanted to see the scenes in different countries. Especially in the seelie club when Johnathon says ‘you have a dark heart valentines daughter’ I wanted Jace to be connected, not clary!
2:51 “Could be due to the fact that show clary is older than book clary and appreciates her mom more” Or you know the fact that she didn’t interact with her mom as much as she was unconscious for the first like 3 of the books
also the fact with the cup. In the series it has the same reaction to mundane then in the book. In BOTH there is a 50% chance for a mundane to die OR become a shadowhunter.
When you’ve read the whole series and you don’t recognize a third of the characters. Also, I’m confused as to what books these people read because they’re getting at least a quarter of their facts wrong.
WHAT!? ive read the books, and ive only saw moments from the show... RAGNOR isnt green in the show? WHY? WHY? WHY? ... he should be green... magnus always teases ragnor (on the "Bane Chronicles") about how he just camouflaged with the forest and that the monkeys attacking them rarely attacks ragnor... it was a great humor! he should be green!
I read the books, and no they did not. he didnt even show up, also to what I know, they only have the rights to TMI, no one wants CC whinning because they used a detail that didnt appear in those books
have you read "The Bane Chronilces"??? Ragnor appeared a lot of times there.... when raphael first became a vampire, ragnor was the second warlock he got close (magnus is the first one of course, as he had save raphael from killing himself)... magnus even low key teases them about each other.... ragnor also appeared on the back story of magnus... with catalina
I feel that Jace's show personality is so different to the Jace's book personality... the Jace of books is so Smart, cute, funny and has a very high ego; but thr Jace of the show is just boring
Gabriela Alvarez and the Jace in the book is so much passionate then the one in the serie. Clace in the books are really really in love and in the serie it’s just boring and plane
Gabriela Alvarez i blame that on the script and directors. i think they purposely wanted to make jace much more dark and brooding, that actor is much more joyful and funny judging by his live streams and bloopers
I love the show, the changes really switched it up a notch. I mean why would you wanna know exactly how everything is gonna turn out? I loved the books, but the show is amazingly done.
Giulia don't play the racist card with me. They were pointing out the differences between the books and the show. I never said that the actor shouldn't play Luke because he is black or anything like that. In fact I think that the actor who plays Luke is doing an amazing job. But that is not the point of my comment above. I am simply saying that if they are showing a picture of green Ragnor and saying how he is diffrent from books, why are they showing the picture of white Luke and not saying anything. And it's ridiculous to say I am racist when I didn't even write the book. Cassie did and the picture in this video of Luke is the proof of that.
You said Stele wrong and have you not watched the whole of season 2 because we find out what the repercussions were with Jace working with Valentine also in the books Caterina hides her blue skin because she works in a mundane hospital and In episode 2 of season 3 we see her with blue skin and white hair :)
Exactly. I don't think they really watched the show, since they forgot a lot of things that actually did happen on the show that they said didn't and don't prnounce Stele correctly.
Yes they say Stele differently on the show, but when I read the books I didn't pronounce it in my head the way they say it on TV. I said it like 'steel' too. When they started saying 'stellay' on the show I was like what!! Now I'm used to it 😉
Ok not to be that person but, I love the books they are one of my all time favorite book series, however I can't stand the TV show. Not just because they changed everything except the premise, but because I just don't find it to be a good show, I think that if I saw the TV show without having read the books I would not like it because I just can't find it to be a good show in general.
I had a 6 year time span when I didn't read any books so I missed the hype on these but saw the movie, then I heard the show was coming out and purposely didn't read the books so it wouldn't set my hopes too high and I STILL didn't even finish the first season of this show
Let’s not forget when they had clary loose her memories of the shadow world at the end of the series which doesn’t make any sense as it was actually Simon what lost memory of the shadowworld in the last book. Which really did not sit well with cuz it definitely throws off the storyline from the books entirely. In my opinion
I love the books and hate the show. I usually don’t care about people saying the show is better than books (which is a total lie) but nothing pisses me off more than when someone says the Shadowhunter books or Shadowhunter Chronicles. Like no, its the Mortal Instruments. But at the same time it’s good because my lovely books are separated from the horrible show.
Starlight Dreamer but the Shadowhunter Chronicles is what all the books set in the Shadow world are called collectively (tmi, tda, tid, shadowhunter academy, tbc, shadow hunters codex ect).
Are u kidding me? I really love the show and I think it was way better than the movie because there are incredible amazing actors who really inspire me! C:
I'm reading the books right now and I watched the show first. The show's plot is a little weird, but they made certain characters more likable. Also Malec was really the best part of the show
I just can't get over the fact of Jace and Maia having sex... And the Seelie queen putting on the mark of cain to Simon... it was supposed to be Clary And... I'm not so happy with how are they developing the season 3.
I 100% agree, I personally think they made too many changes and the plot goes a completely different direction, also wtf even is the owl, he doesn't appear!! Hjegwwgwgwgsgnnxnclpwo
Gabriela Alvarez that’s completely stupid, god why make a series based on books if you aren't going to follow the real story not even a little, what makes a good story is the details and the show change all our favorite things like Jace's personality, they add persons to the show that didn't exactly exist in the books, I get sick of people saying ”i love shadowhunters the show is better than the books” 🤢
From the experience of literature teacher, I can say - you should separate books and things that happening on screen, because the laws of writing and shooting ( playing on scene) are rather different. So, there are "different creations" of different creations))
I think the tv show is literally perfect! If they wouldn’t have changed a few things then it wouldn’t be fun to watch it. The suspense is very important! It would be boring if you always knew what was going to happen next. So I think the producers did an awesome job!!
I kinda like that they didn't do that since it is a bit weird to me when people fall in love because of someone's eye color. Or maybe I am saying that since I like hazel eyes than blue eyes lol
i mean am I the only one who thinks making Alec get married and adding Lydia was a really good decision, cause it added depth to Malec. I wish it'd happened in the books. Also Jocelyn's death was one that I liked cause it added depth to Alec's charactar.
Joclyn wasn’t an artist in the show because after she drew a picture of Valentine as a monster, (way back before Jonathan was born) valentine found it and he swore to ruin her life. So she let go of art after clary was born so she doesn’t “mess up” again. Luke mentions this to clary while he’s recovering in bed after he gets seriously injured and Magnus heals him.(in the first season) Edit: s1 e5 to be exact
Yes right...they changed the looks and even the personalities... Jace was supposed to be cold and quite a hot asshole (if you get my point and not a softie hero (he often saves the day tho)...I would have liked or at least accepted him more in the series...if he'd have longer hair and the right eye color... And for clary it's like the hair...why did they color her hair so neon orange xD...i mean she's supposed to have a natural hair color...at some point it hurts in the eyes
YEEEEES i mean they are the main reason why i can handle the serie, their personality doesn't match at all the books. I would have been fine if it was only the look (here also messed up the caracters by the way) but their personalities are nooot right. Jace is not a soft kind person and Clary is not suposed to be flirting Jace already in the first episode, it is cringy and awfull to see, i just... i can handle the show and if we talk about the looks PLEASEEEE CLARY CAN'T BE TALLER THAN ISABELLE!!!! Alec is supposed to have black hair and blue eyes because is the favorite combination to Magnus and Jace oh please i can't handle Jace, he is suposed to be leon like, with a wild aura, cold and mostly he is suposed to have a athlete body, fibrous and thin like a panther. The two actors that play Jace and Clary in the movie would have been peeeerfect
You guys need to chill. Not everything is going to be EXACTLY the same as it’s called an ADAPTATION. I love how they did the characters as it’s very unique. If they just did EVERYTHING by the book it would be very boring. That’s my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
I like the show. It was what introduced me to TSC. I never would have comitted to *3 different series of books* without the show. And I'll say it: I liked the show better than the books, which I read between finishing s2 and s3 airing. I just think it's better. Let the hate rain on me
I've never watched the show for a few reasons. I only recently read the books, so when I looked up the show, I looked for clips at first. The first one I came across was Alec's wedding to Lydia - which made me super confused - and they were getting married in white. It's the color of mourning, not marriage. The other thing was the ages of the characters. I never watched the show because I figured that there would probably be a lot of changes and I wasn't sure I'd be happy with them. Seeing as how I blew up over the color of Lydia's dress at her marriage, I think it was a good call on my part to just stay away from the TV show.
it was a withish gold, it wasnt a happy moment, that dress represent the sacrifice Alec was making, seriously if you dont watch the show, you cant follow the storyline and cant criticize it
NicoleGZ, Ultimately, it was a personal decision on my part to stay away from the show because of the reasons I stated above. No, I didn't know what was happening in the story and, frankly, I didn't care. I am not saying the show is bad; I'm saying it's not like the books. I wanted to see the characters I imagined on screen and instead, I got a whole new cast that I wasn't interested in. Everyone has their own preference and I'm not going to put fans of the TV show down for that. The books and TV show are different, which both the video and I pointed out. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, but it's not my cup of tea.
They crew of Shadowhunters did say that they were putting twits in the series to keep it interesting to anyone who has read the book or watched the movie I guess. I have read all the books and so far it is quite interesting. Also I think the characters were as close to the descriptions as possible.
I honestly am obsessed with the show and haven’t read the books yet but I’m thinking about reading them 😁 *-edit-* ok so I have one of the books and I’m actually enjoying them
The awesome Janice true, its sad because so many people were looking forward to it. They could have kept every single scene from the books and everyone would still love it
I'm wondering why the show's creators decided to kill off Jocelyn. She played a really big role later on in the series and a major role in City of Heavenly Fire
I watched some interviews where they said they want Clary to be more independent and want a twist to make the show a bit more dark. Also, they have to switch Max's death to Jocelyn since they did not want to kill Max.
I watched only one episode And I gave up because I realised that the directors already killed the whole magic of the little details Everything was a nightmare
Okay i get that maybe they didn't want Jace to recognize Valentine right away but the shapeshifting rune is the dumbest thing ever that opens up a sea of plot holes.
This felt more like a bashing video, with very sparse attempts to give the show credit. A lot of the aspects of the book were changed to fit the tv show. Luke is a cop because it gives his character something to do and a way for the other characters to find out about the latest issues occurring in New York. The book centered around Clary mostly, so Luke would always show up when it was convenient for her story. It would've been so boring to have him sit in a bookstore doing nothing. The show gave everyone way more screen time (except perhaps Simon and Clary somewhat). Other adaptations like Chairman Meow not existing may be due to the cast having cat allergies, alongside it just being very difficult to require a cat on set anytime Magnus' apartment is used in a scene. At least they make references in the alternate universe episode, which was very funny. Some events are different, but the basic plot remains the same in the series, and happens chronologically for the most part. The few changes that differ usually made sense for the scenarios, and all together the show succeeds in showcasing more than just Clary and character development. They're doing the right things to make a successful show, like using Malec as a focal point for season 1 to gain more viewership.
I hate how you say in almost difference "fans of the books were upset about this difference because..." You don't have to repeat that after every entry. There is and always will be outcry for any adaptation when it differs from source material. People are just petty like that. Also, you're so wrong about your entry of Simon's vampirism. How can you say that Simon was more involved in the books when Simon turning early on in the show was just so that he can have a storyline? In book one he doesn't do much at all before and after getting kidnapped.
I saw first the show and i loved....it so much! When i started to read the books i loved that in the books was so many things different and i didn't know what will happen next! I loved both stories! I saw after the movie City of bones. And that was after the book I just loved so much all about the Shadow Hunters ! The way the producers made the show is awsome !
Am I the only one that was upset because valentine was supposed to have long white hair and he was bald in the show... And that Sebastian was supposed to look like a human from the beginning not a monster
I originally intended to read the book series before watching the TV show, but I never got around to it before the premiere, so I started watching the show, then I read comments on here that explained how different the two actually are and now, I have gotten to the point where I enjoy the show for what it is and I think I might be better off not reading the books and having expectations of them being the same.
You're not missing anything with the books IMO. I know people will shout and crucify me for saying so, but I honestly couldn't get through the first book. I started watching the series first, thought it was a bit cheesy but stuck with it and now I love it! I tired reading the books after being introduced through the series, and was just so completely annoyed with Clary and tired of being in her head. I tried to stick it through but eventually gave up mid-way. Books aren't untouchable things, and all authors aren't perfect writers. I may not agree with all of the changes, but some were appropriate. Plus people raved about the movie and how much closer it was to the books, and guess what? The movie flopped. There are a lot of things the series does right that the author didn't develop in the book. And considering the show is only what 30-40 mins long each episode there is only but so much you can fit in.
srayj God, thank you. we need more people like you in the comments. book readers are looking to fight people in the comments who like the TV show at all. I've been thinking about reading he books but idek where to get them ( library's around here are kinda small ) and I'm not too sure if I'll like them as much as I'm currently liking the show ( I haven't gotten too far yet ) the idea of the things I hear about the book don't sit well with me...I'm just not sure.
Nooooo you have to read the books if you love the show you will love the books even more because it is a lot more intricate and detailed. I read all the books before I watched the tv show and movies and I still appreciate them all. People are just salty because it's different. It didn't make me hate it, I just think of it as an extension of the books rather than an adaption. Trust me your opinion won't change unless you make it.
srayj I found the first book tough to get through, but I persisted as the story concept itself intrigued me....the books did get better and better with each one and by the finale of the story I was totally hooked! It's well worth reading the books imo. Just push through that first book....you'll be glad you did when you read them!
Um.... so..... here's the thing........ I'm generally a nice person......... I don't normally want to tell this to people.... you're probably a nice person...... can I start........ you know...... shouting and yelling "Crucify them"....... you know....... na....... that feels rude........ "CRUCIFY THEM"......... that was rude..... sorry.
Hell to the no, I don't want them to make things exactly like the books... I want the amazing Malec we're having and I don't want to hate Jace and Clary or the show only focusing on them and not in anything else lol
7Mushrooms7 malec in the book werent THIS good ... I mean it took too much tims in the book before they actually were together but in the show things were WAY better
@@nadiadaneshi8618 Everyone is loving show Malec but I'm one of this few people who just can't stand it. I fell in love with Magnus and Alec's relationship from books so many years ago and now looking at all these people obsessing over the show version is kinda painful.
@@marpaj2 well , I read books so many years ago , and I loved Malec even back then , but the thing is , personally I think Matt and Harry played Alec and Magnus perfectly , it was exactly how I pictured them ... well maybe not the exact same ... but they did a great job I guess the reason you cant stand Malec on the show is the fact that , they are different from the books ... and by different I mean A LOT !! and since you said you loved them that way , it makes you feel like , you can't stand them
