Since I started hosting Show Me The Money Club about ten months ago, every morning, my inbox is full of suggestions from amazing drivers all over the country. I read every single one and respond as soon as possible; keep them coming. Many of these drivers have become my eyes and ears from large to small rideshare markets. It gives me an overview of the general health of the business.
I have been blamed for being too negative about Uber, Lyft, and the gig economy in general. At RSG, I’m here to inform, educate and allow the readers/viewers to make up their own minds, as each market is different, as well are the goals of each individual driver.
After several years of writing for The Rideshare Guy, hosting the Show Me the Money Club on RU-vid, and working as a driver and delivery courier, here are the ten “don’ts” of driving rideshare I’ve learned and gleaned from you, the readers!

@fairwayfigueroa- While I appreciate the rational driver answering for me, he is wrong (as usual). My integrity would not let me solicit Uber passengers. That would make me as exploitive and predatory as they are. However, when a rider starts the conversation, I will certainly answer, and the chips fall where they may. If you cannot convert someone who is paying $250 for a ride after you show them that you were offered $60 then you just aren't trying, LOL. Furthermore in my 26,000+ rides I have never canceled a ride and then drove a passenger for cash. I do not roll that way. As far as the huge brass balls, my sacrifices early in life have me in a position where I do not need U/L. I cannot control whether I am deactivated so I do not give it a second thought. If they don't need a diamond (Uber) or Platinum (Lyft) driver then that is their loss. I understand that desperation and other issues influence many drivers. Why do I do it? I am not an idiot, even under the horrible pay scale out there now, I still make 4x-5x of operating expenses. Not bad for play money huh.
@MJSmithGroup
@MJSmithGroup Год назад
It's not against policy to recruit private clients. Actually read your "contract" with uber/lyft if you haven't already. We are "independent contractors." As drivers, the riders are "OUR" customers. That's not me saying that. That's what the uber & lyft driver contracts say. Converting a rider to a private client for the current ping, yes, that's risking a contract violation. Don't do that. When you get an on-app ping, complete that ride on-app. You're good. But then, letting riders know that they can contact you directly for their FUTURE ride needs is not a contract violation. disclaimer: Yes, as others have already mentioned, be sure you have the appropriate licenses/permits/insurance/etc that are required in your market.

But it was never designed to be a full-time job. It was designed to be a side job. It’s like saying my Toyota Corolla can’t go off roaming in the wilderness and then you try to blame Toyota. Yeah, it wasn’t designed to do that. Uber was designed to be a part-time side gig for people to make some side money. So you can’t get mad at Uber because you decided to turn into a full-time job

Uber and Lyft should have a round trip button to simplify rise ordering for passengers and the stay in area filter should be able to pick radius center from anywhere for instance I should be able to pick center from an hour away and have rides pulling me into the center

Filter is up to 30 mile radius. You can move the circle before setting. For your purpose their destination filter may work. Sets for 30 minutes than resets to 30 minutes after completion of a ride.

@@MBu-tf5uk been doing this for 8 years, I file a schedule C and that is all. I use an accountant thanks. Furthermore, In all of the time I have been doing ride share I have only shown a profit in 2021 when surge was through the roof after covid restrictions were lifted. Every other year I showed a loss which until I retired actually lowered my taxable gross. Why does everyone compare things to the IRS??? The IRS has nothing to do with whether you are profiting or not. ALL of my rideshare revenue is reported to the IRS as are all of my expenses. Here is one example. IRS mileage rate for 2023 is 65.5 cents per mile. I have a hybrid which gets 70MPG locally. I only drive locally. I get 700 miles per tank and it costs me $35 to fill, that is before I get my 8% back on fuel for using the Lyft debit card as a platinum driver. On one tank of gas I can deduct $459 from my taxable gross. Of course that lowers my taxes but does that mean I am not making profit??? Hell no!

It seems like drivers point of view is "we can't change nothing with Uber and Lyft. That being said, how come drivers were striking a couple years back. Now we can't control what we can't control. Since the strikes Uber and Lyft push back is worst than before the strikes. Seems like retaliation. Nothing from drivers talking about this.

Market, location, and price of living are the main factors when it comes to how drivers feel about Uber’s pay scale. I agree completely that it’s all about whether it’s profitable to the driver. For some drivers it might not be. But, I’m totally happy with and proud to have Uber. I drive in central MS and I’m making more than most ppl I know. Seriously, Maybe $25hr isn’t much money in California or other big cities, but, here in central MS, not many ppl are making that much money. I make about $180-210 a day for a 8 hour day(sometimes a little less than 8 hrs). The vehicle I have is paid off. Insurance is cheap because I’m married and 49 years old with a clean record. I work in $35 a day for gas. I work in $20 a day for maintenance and to buy a new car when this one breaks(or to fix it if it can be fixed). I’m all in at $55-60 on a $210-225 day. With the miles that I can claim for taxes, and other tax breaks I have, I don’t too much worry about that. I get money back. So, $150-160 a day profit. Five days a week, that’s $750 a week, bring home. In central MS, that’s more than most ppl you meet are making. It comes out to around $20-21hr average, give or take, after expenses. Yea, that’s great money here! I drive Uber full time because there is no place here, other than white collar jobs that require college degrees, that pays this much. As long as you pay for health insurance, you’re good to go. Still good money here. And, I’m my own boss. I’m one of those guys that’s glad Uber was there for me. There are things that could be worked on, but for me, it has been freedom and money that I could not achieve with a regular W2 job. And, like I commented on one of the other videos, the perks are going to pay off for my wife and I. We plan on taking advantage of the free ASU tuition. Then we can get that white collar job I was talking about earlier! Love the show! Hope you’re having a great day!

Hi. Policy is $600 every 6 months (tax deductible) and Miami is not "nowhere". Florida insurance is different, I do not need any additional insurance driving for Uber and Lyft. In fact I have been rear ended with passengers in the car more than once and Lyft insurance is always primary and my personal auto rates have never increased. There is also risk involved in everything you do in life. I live in a homestead state which means my home cannot be touched via lawsuit, nor can my 401k's, IRA's, etc. I do not live in fear. I carry the policy because lawyers like to settle, when they see higher coverage limits their eyes light up. Thanks for the comment

@Norma Stits So you've been involved in multiple accidents while transporting passengers and somehow get a million dollar policy dirt cheap. Florida is a much cheaper place, maybe down there average Joe in his personal ride pays $40/mo? If true, what a deal, but still safe to say results definitely not typical.

It's better to keep it real with the passenger. They need to know what Uber/Lyft is doing to their workers!!! They're robbing the passenger's, by charging them more & the passenger thinks it's going to the drivers & it's NOT!!! That's why people don't tip as much.

they play with the drivers pay, because they can, I am sure some deserve to complain, but honestly, the only way it will get better is for them not to accept any darn contract for drivers. Flooding the market with every tom dick and harry that accepts every notification like its crack is hurting the rate we get. SIde hustlers can use these tips to get more bang for the buck. However, people that get drawn to the hype and think they can depend on uber as life support, ends up making uber their life support and does anything just to see the earning ticker go up, not realizing they would be better off working at McDs for a steady pay and no extra expense.

Can the federal government get involved in wrongfully deactivated all the way around the board. Saying the app shuts down completely until we hear and see policy change with regard to deactivated driver for being under influence - after safely making it to your destination and not being asked to be let out. Because as noted if one makes the ,now, mistake of making Uber or Lyft your sole source of income and for a wrongfully report of driving under the influence and you default on water 🌊 or mortgage or car lease -;you can just be shut off my anyone Appear to be and actually are not the same. Have testing centers available in every city for drivers to report to. This isn't democracy it's authority Democracy weighs both sides. They are crippled people with this policy that goes unchecked. The seem to have victory over local municipal levels Mayors. How about the federal government? Someone who can bully too. Because that is bullying people to deactivate and call all these support teams who act like one robot 🤖 with the same response: Oh I'm so sorry I know how frustrating this could be. Rest assured we are working hard on your matter. Is there anything else we can do." The same reply in many different voices. And citizens are too weak to boycott until changes are made. United we stand divided we are already falling. It's not right

Some business man. He left the corporate world to make less than minimum m wage. It's like the blind leading the blind. I'm not saying his points aren't good, but a successful business person wouldn't be doing ride-share driving as a full time gig or a part time gig.

Than you truly are an idiot. There is more to life than money. Perhaps not to you. I retired at 53 with no mortgage, no life expenses, and no stress, to spend time with my wife, kids, and grandkids. I was able to that with sacrifice, great financial planning, and a great work ethic. I am also never a victim. I exploit Uber and Lyft perhaps much better than you can. Don’t hate me, look in the mirror. I use Uber so I never have to withdraw savings from the bank. My costs are $.27 per mile including purchasing the vehicle. Sergio has my cost spreadsheet. Hopefully you achieve as blessed a life as I have.

I actually disagree with him on step 2! There is no reason to accept that garbage 200 charge the passenger and 60 to you. We can control if we don’t accept it’s plp like that is why ride-share drivers are in trouble!

@@say.that.again.podcast Everyone has their point of view. Ride share drivers are in trouble as you put it because they have put themselves in a position in life where ridesharing is their main or only source of income. That is their fault and not Uber and Lyft. Just curious, If Uber charged the passenger $30 for a 50 mile ride and paid you $25 of it, would that be a good ride in your eyes??? Of course it wouldn't and that is my point. As many drivers do, they misdirect their anger or frustration to focus on things they cannot control. That is U/L game plan. Do you really think if we decline those rides things will get better? That is pie in the sky thinking. I have listened for almost a year to the head of the CPU (whom I have the utmost respect for) talk about cherry picking. Uber keeps growing and growing their ride count. Are the fares adjusting like you think they are? Obviously not. Are passengers going elsewhere? Obviously not. There are millions of drivers in the US and their is a crawl at LAX and 100 people show up??? You expect drivers to decline rides? That is so silly.
