I recently replayed far cry 3 and what really speaks volumes about how good Vaas is as a villain is the fact that I'm always surprised by how little he is in the game, he's so impactful that i seem to remember him being everywhere all the time...
@@DaveMc1996 That's the point of Joseph. If you play Far Cry New Dawn, he realizes this himself after Farcry 5, has this huge epiphany, casting himself out of New Eden (sorry, spoiler) and then when he comes back, he becomes your ally and helps you defeat the antagonist of that game.
I believe the developers were surprised and struck by Michael Mando's Vaas. They kinda wanted to make Hoyt Volker a worse guy later on. By concept he is, but not by acting.
Gameranx is literally the best. I wait everyday for their video and an hour ago I seen 30 best PC games of 2022 and I was sad because I dont have a PC but they knew people would feel that way and dropped 2 videos today. Absolutely the best game channel.
They did a PS5 video the day before though and there was no other video that day for people who don't own a PS5 lol. This was most likely tomorrow's video that was uploaded by mistake.
Same here. Couldn’t believe that Nolan North voiced him when I finally read the credits. He’s can be way more indistinguishable than people give him credit for.
@@sugreev2001 Him, Troy Baker, Mark Hamlin and Kevin Conroy are national treasures when it comes to video games. Ashley Burch is up there too. I've only heard Ashley Johnson in last of us so I can't put her on the Mount Rushmore of voice actors yet.
agreed. also, the way he gets enslaved is so brutal that it actually seems better when you do it to dung eater as well. like you hear how its done and the option you get would be awful but dung eater, being completely conscious but trapped in his own body for eternity is fitting.
Mark Hamil definitely shares the number 2 spot with Nicholson in best joker portrayals. And only because of my huge respect for Nicholson's performance because Hamil pretty much set the standard for every portrayal of the joker.
True; Kefka and the Joker are both two literal clowns in appearance with equally unhinged and unpredictable behavior I'd love to hear Mark Hammill as Kefka
FF is one of the most popular game series ever, and these guys play games for a living. If they don't know a villain from a classic game then they shouldn't be making videos
I’d say Ted Faro from Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West should be on this list. He lead the entire world and all life to being wiped out, destroyed all human knowledge that was to help the next generation to grow and flourish then tried to become immortal to be the god of those people a thousand years later.
People say The Joker lives in Batman's head because of the magic(?) blood transfusion. I just figured Bruce knew the Joker so well that he'd know what he'd say and do in certain situations. And I think that makes it all the more effed up.
I've looked through the timestamps and I don't need to know more about the Joker from the Arkham series. What he did to Jason Todd for example is more than despicable. And he keeps doing these terrible things like it's nothing. Never wanted to kill someone more even though I know I shouldn't. Props to Batman for being able to withstand that evil.
In a sort of weird twisted way, I feel like Batman can’t let the Joker go. Like, well they are “DeStinEd tO dO tHis fOrevEr” I feel like Batman kind of likes the thrill of the chase with Joker. Maybe not specifically in The Arkham games though.
💯% love the Luca Blight choice, brought back so much hate I had for the guy. Well established at the beginning and end though I wish I saw a bit more of him in between.
it took us 3 whole battles back to back just to corner and finally killed him and he's not even a final boss with multiple forms, just a human but wow, that whole sequence was so satisfying
I was busy with the game when this video came out and then I saw that judgment was in it so then I immediately played the game (while taking my time, that is really important with these games) and now I’m in the credits watching this
Personally I would've put Luca at No.2. The guy kills his own allies to kick off a war, kills his own father because he hates him, sacrifices hundreds, if not thousands to activate a True Rune and is such a beast in battle that it takes getting peppered with arrows, fighting off eighteen heroes, getting hit with more arrows before finally getting into a one on one with the MC to be stopped. And even then he shows no remorse, reveling in the atrocities he's committed.
2 other villains I would add to this list: Zoran Lazarevic from Uncharted 2 and Raphael Drake from 007 Nightfire. We hear a lot through the game about the various war crimes and atrocities Lazarevic committed and he even routinely murders his own soldiers just to further his ambition. Raphael Drake (no relation to Nathan Drake), tried to nuke the entire world from space.
Go play them again as an adult, you'll come away with a different opinion. The character momo is just disgusting, all the little school child androids are disgusting. Everytime they are on screen the camera points right up their skirts. These are like 9 year old girls
That albedo reference got me personally. I was able to get the OG unedited version where you see all the violence. Seriously underrated series and character.
I'm so happy he mentioned Albedo!!!! No one ever mentions Albedo. Guy deserves an award for traumatising any little girls who were playing that game, myself strongly included. Then they had the audacity to give him that evil boss fight in the second game where you finally think you're getting the upper 'hand' and he just regenerates. Man, what a villain.
Another worthy mention, I think, would be Algus from Final Fantasy Tactics. He believes the noble class to be above the rest and he's just an all around jerk. And a murderer...
The loathsome dung eater is interesting. In Japanese mythology the soul of a person is in a small round stone that’s in the rectum. So it’s insinuated by his name that he is devouring peoples souls also.
@@bernardoheusi6146 This old myth started because when a dead body would be found in a river or lake and it bloated, the rectum would be puffed out like something had been pulled out of it. So the Japanese thought it was an aquatic creature that was taking something out of the body. This led to the mythological Koopa, a turtle like demon that rips your soul from your body if you entered their waters. Bowser from Mario was based on this (King Koopa). So yeah, there's a lot of things revolving around this in Japanese mythology and urban legends, like ghost hands that come out of toilets and poop demons.
Love your videos fellas! I remember watching you when you had like 3 million subscribers, which is A LOT, but it's so fun to see now you have grown to 7.4 million and counting, and I'm rooting for you guys because you're awesome in every way. I don't get to play games as much as I once did, but its so nice having a channel like yours that helps me explore games I've never heard of, you've also peaked my interest in lots of different genres and just i think you're so influential in your narrations and help lots of others! Keep up the great work!
You could've put Handsome Jack on here no problem. The guy tortured his own daughter, that's just scummy. Also, Joker's intro in Arkham City(12:25 for those not paying attention) is easily one of my top 10 villain intros of all time.
We need more villains like this as it’s missing from today. Villains are meant to go too far, makes for a better impact and impression. Handsome jack is a good example. Always taunts you through out the game and kills a loved character from the first borderlands. Handsome jack does so much more but it’s best to find that out. You hate them of course but you love how good they are as the villains to push you to kick their ass, all the better if the voice actor nails it.
Gameranx how do you do it? How do you find all these great list titles and go back to the 90s for the content? It's crazy impressive, you just don't run out of content
A shout out to falcon .....it wouldn't be gameranx without you dude , I watch ya clips of a night and pass out usually 2 em and catch up on my lunch breaks at work mate u are a legend mate please PLEASE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK P.S NO OFFENCE TO THE OTHER NARRATORS THOUGH TGEY DO GREAT BUT gameranx is falcon as far as I am concerned
I was hoping Luca would appear on this list. Man, I think I've never hated a game character more than him. JRPG's of that time had a thing for over the top villains.
What? David in The Last of Us does not have a monotone voice. Even in the clips you showed his voice has inflections, as well as tempo and pitch changes.
M. Bison should be on the list. “I’m sorry I don’t remember any of it. The day Bison graces your village was the most important part of your life, but to me, it is only Tuesday. 😂😂😂
I got to meet Nolan North in Comic Con Dublin Ireland and I asked him about his character of David and he said it was a major turn from what he does as a character, he also felt uncomfortable touching Ellie's hand and being "friendly". He compared David to someone from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Best villains in gaming that will not be topped any time soon. 10. Kickstarter Scams 9. Incomplete game releasing studios 8. Gambling Mechanics (Card packs, loot boxes, wheel spins, whatever its named) 7. 'Micro' Transactions 6. Paid Beta Testing, excuse me Early Access. 5. Game Studio Complacency (AAA studios not doing what got them to AAA status by taking risks in making some crazy ass game(s) ). 4. Gamers letting companies get away with halfassed shit because the core is good but the modders need to fix some things. 3. Pushing the hardware (High hardware demands lowers the overall sales cause some folks just cant afford top of the line stuff) 2. Large publishers gobbling up game studios and releasing only on one platform (More platforms = more potential buyers) 1. Greed. Cause lets face it, Greed is the baseline logic behind most if not my entire list.
I'm surprised there was no bioshock ending in this. I mean he kills little girls to increase their powers... I'm surprised you didn't include it. Bioshock is such a great series.
I nominate Krelian, scheming wars between continents at the backrgound, then release virus which mutate humans into flesh eating monsters (in agonizing way), then imbued them with calling to come at “scared place” only to dissect their bodies, cell by cell, to merge and create a super monster, all while claiming to join god in higher wave. In the end, even his end conversation resonate in real life, things like our incapability of truly understanding others and we simply set comfortable boundaries with each others, points of living as we simply grinding each other to inevitably die and return to dust, and absence of our free will since it might be pre determined
i raised an eyebrow when i heard that Nolan North voiced a character in The Last of Us. Troy Baker and Nolan North can't stay away from each other, huh?
Would Dr. Amherst count as a villain who went to far. He did die before you could find him but he basically wiped out millions of lives in an attempt to restart the planet sorta. He's probably the most realistic villain
SKIZZO from Days Gone. That guy wanted to murder a camp of zombie apocalypse survivors because he thought he knew better how to rule them, but got outcast for making shitty decisions and putting lives of people in danger. eventually, he succeeded, by poisoning the local water supply (if i remember correctly)
Fun fact about Vaas, Michael Mando actually auditioned for the role of Hoyt, but the developers said he wasn't a good fit for the character, so they went back and MADE a whole ass villain for Mando to play, I.e., Vaas. Probably actually why he didn't get the screen time and character development he deserved, from what I understand, they pretty far along in the development process of the game when they added in Vaas. Tell ya what though, that frikkin' live action marketing campaign they did prerelease with Christopher Mintz-Plasse for the game was TOP TIER and absolutely phenomenal.
What about Liquid from MSG ? he was evil & arrogant, & his minion Ocelot Also, Joker (Arkham) from DMC3 (father of the Lady).. he was twisted & pure evil And maybe Wasker from Resident Evil.. he wasn't the best, but he was sure among the most known villains
Everyone on this list deserved to be there, but I feel like Kessler from inFAMOUS should have had a spot. For 16 years now he has stuck in my head as "needs to die" for forcing Cole to "choose." There was a bunch of other stuff he did but the choice was what really engaged the killswitch, so to speak.
I just realized how funny the plot of MW2 is now, in light of how poorly Russia executed a land invasion on Ukraine. They couldn't even successfully invade their much smaller neighbor. Imagine them ACTUALLY trying to invade the US the way it's portrayed in MW2.
Great video as usual. I think Mr. Jefferson from Life is Strange was pretty sadistic. Doing what he did to Rachel and Kate, plus getting a mentally unstable student to be his apprentice made him a good small town villain.
Oh my, I haven't heard Luca Blight's name in a while, and just hearing about him now in this video reminded me quite vividly how much I absolutely hated his guts in Suikoden 2 and how much I relished his complete destruction when I reached that arc.
I actually think that when it comes to Vaas (make no mistake, I think he's a great villain), part of what makes him great is that he did die (disappear?). I think that he's the "one that got away" so to speak ups his appeal. I think he would not be as popular or memorable if he played out to the end.
Vaas and Handsome Jack were the most evil to me as far as video game characters go,but joker definitely outdoes them both But I was disappointed that Vaas was pretty much a peon
I can't believe u brought up Luca blight and he's such a tough boss fight that you think he's the last guy but he's not it literally takes like 20 characters you have to have like 16 set up to beat him it's amazing And if you haven't been grinding as hard as possible which it's not even a game where it's easy to grind in he'll completely Maull you such a good game I'm surprised you guys brought it up because not a lot of people have played that game because they didn't make a whole lot of copies because the first one didn't sell very good I actually had it I bought it on Amazon or ebay for like $100 in my buddy dropped a fushigi ball on it and crack the game in half I could have killed him
One can argue that you can beat him only by speaking (speech-checking) and proving to him that his whole crusade is lost from its beginning (no spoilers) providing facts he ignored. Not sure the greatest villain can be defeated this way. Somehow, I do get and share a bit of your pick, nonetheless.
Voss is only number 10? I feel like he should be higher on the list. I feel like skizzo from days gone should be on this list. I don’t think I hated a villain in a game as much as him. But I also did grow up in New Jersey..
