Thanksgiving Meal: Turkey w/butter, Brussels sprouts w/butter, mushrooms w/butter, salad w/tomato, Olives & bacon, home made low carb cheesecake w/strawberries. Before meal, Mike said 95. 1 hour after meal Mike said 107, 2 hours after 101.
I never comment on anything but I need to express my gratitude to you and all of the work you put into this channel. One week ago today I was admitted to the hospital for DKA with a fasting blood sugar of 356 and an A1c of 12. I've been binge-watching your channel and even though the dietitian in the hospital told me I could have up to 4 carb choices PER MEAL (60 grams!) I knew that wasn't right. I am on metformin so that has probably helped (although the doctor told me it might be a few weeks before I saw results from that) but as of today my blood sugar was 151 when I tested this morning. I know that's still high but it's more than a 200 point drop in a week and so I'm still really happy. I cannot thank you (and your lovely wife) enough. I am forever grateful. I will try to remember to update when I see my doctor next week.
Wow! That’s incredible!! I was having 220 fasting bs. This morning was 190 after only being low carb for one day. My doc wants me on 3 meds. I’m taking metformin now and added in Jardian (sp). I’m supposed to add in insulin but I’m hoping I can get my fasting down to her number not take the insulin.
Dennis, let me start by saying how much your videos have helped me.. i was diagnosed 3 months ago with diabetes and fatty liver.. i went from 11.9 a1c and now its at a 6.3. I was keto 95% of the 3 months but most of my fasting blood sugar was 100 to 110 consistently.. fatty liver is reversed.. also just so you know my fasting glucose at first blood draw was 264.. this time it was 95.. thanks again for all you do its very important work!
The “turn-arounds” that happen when people get the right information/instruction on how to improve their Health is Life Saving!!! I’m so thrilled for everyone…. I learned this in 2010. I was skeptical at first due to the “whole grain, low/no fat message” but I also got a Laptop Computer in 2008 and by 2010 was pretty good at using it. I researched & I’ve never looked back…. I run a Ketogenic Kitchen in my Home …. No If’s, And’s… or But’s!!! Thanks Dennis!! You are right up there with all the others ( Dr Berry, Dr Fung, & many others ) saving lives with knowledge. ❤️
For Thanksgiving Meal last night I avoided this: Mixed drinks, pound cake, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, but DID have turkey, cheese, brussels sprouts, green beans, mineral water, coffee, grilled vegetables. Respectable blood sugar was a surprise in the a.m. :) Second helping of turkey, cheese and green beans!
You said you did have turkey 🦃 what's wrong with eating turkey 😮😢 I don't read nobody mentioned turkey except you.i hope nothing because I love me some ground turkey ground chicken, so have you heard anything about it 😲🤔😘
This is the pizza recipe that works for me. I use a Dash mini griddle (Not the waffle model) 1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese (58g) 1 Large Egg 2 Tablespoons Almond Flour (12g) 1 Tablespoon Creamed Cheese (15g) 1 Teaspoon Italian Seasoning Cook and then let cool Add Rao's pizza sauce More cheese pepperoni Cook again Dash mini griddle is also just the right size to make pancakes with your recipe. I normally whip up a double batch of batter, and cook four at a time.
Dennis, you are so good to us!! ❤ And great you talked about vegetable oil. Yes to coconut oil, butter, and olive oil. But if you had to pick the best one it would be BUTTER... REAL BUTTER and no fakes. Your body needs this to carry its vitamins to your cells.
I currently have a Almond Flour Thin Crust Base to make a Pizza out of it. 1-Cup Almond Flour 1-Teaspoon Psyllium Husk for Binding your dough 1-Teaspoon Olive/Avocado oil 2 to 3-Teaspoons of warm water 1- Teaspoon Garlic Powder 1-Teaspoon Salt & Cracked Black Pepper 1 to 2- Teaspoon of Cajun Powder (Optional)- I love the flavour it gives to the pizza base. Make a medium tennis ball size dough and cook it in your pan for 2 minutes for one side and turn it around to add your toppings! You get 2 dough balls. Use parchment baking sheets to gently roll your base Some Topping Ideas: Butter Chicken Curry topped with peppers and grated Cheese Cooked Kale and mushroom with peppers and grated Cheese Cooked Minced Beef/Lamb with peppers and grated Cheese
@@ImayonRaja there are so many keto friendly new products out there, I can’t keep up and I know some channels promote various sparkling waters. Thanks for clarifying, I will definitely try this! Warm water I have:)
Thanks to you for faithfully sharing the knowledge God has given you. I don’t have diabetes but I know too people that are or are the verge. I wish the medical community would wake up and go against the message past down by the so-called experts.
I have been using a pancake recipe using all almond flour. My husband eats them but with little enthusiasm. I made the recipe that you use for breakfast this morning. It is so much better! Light and delicious! I've added it to my recipe box as "Dennis' Pancakes". Thanks so much!
Thank you so for much your videos, 33 years old diagnosed type 2 with a hba1c of 8 percent (63) two months ago after taking a funny turn, stop eating junk food, potato's, rice, pasta, fizzy drinks. Had to make some radical changes and your videos and suggestions have been so much help esoedially with healthy alternatives, also helping me dealing with the stress and dealing with the diagnoses. Thank you again from the UK
I love this video. You list all the popular basic meals we eat and quickly list the substitutes. No long drawn fancy show...just entertaining important information. Thank you!
Dannis, i have been diabetic since i was 34 and ever since i did everything wrong from what i ate to believing meds will take charge of my diabetes, nay. Am now 60 and i have changed my lifestyle. I watch what i eat, i exercise regularly and i have joined an earobics group once a week. I test eat and test to get to know which foods are spiking my glucose. Thanks! its all because of what i have learnt from your uploads. God bless you.
I have been following you ever since I became a diabetic like 3 years ago and you help me tremendously you helped so many people may the Lord bless you and your wife and you have a Happy New Year and I will continue to see you thanks for all your hard work
This was such a confirming video I started my Pizza on Tortilla when you previously suggested it. I never thought of add water to heavy whipping cream. I like Zucchini. For candy I eat a brand called unreal dark chocolate peanut butter cups. They are very small it doesn't impact my glucose much. I really like cauliflower rice I need to try the cereal I miss it so much. I make Keto pancakes called Chaffles. This is really made me feel better. I just need to go back to my eating window and fasting. I ate low carb for the holidays didn't go anywhere. I am feeling proud of myself. Thanks Beat Diabetes! #subscribe #donate #Thumbsup
Cauliflower pizza base is great. Its just cauliflower, cheese and eggs. You could make a cauliflower cheese egg waffle too. There's a low carb sub for almost everything. RU-vid and the Internet are great things. Thank god. Avocado oil is great to add to your list too.
Dennis, Good morning, thanks for all you do. Keep up the motivation, testing, trials and tribulations, and the great recipe options. I'm less than 10 pounds from my target weight loss of 100, thanks to Keto, I.F. You and a couple other you-tube heroes!
For rice and pasta substitute I found hearts of palm is wonderful. The pasta comes in spaghetti , lasagna and linguini form. I found it at Kroger and Walmart. Also in rice form
I'm going to take my diabetes very very serious this video was very informational thanks so much lots of changes I'm trying to start making today I'm here looking at this video because I need help bye-bye rice
Greetings! Got my A1c down from 9+ to 6.4 in the last 3 months. Am aiming for the 5s over the next 3 months. Will not alienate anybody with Rolling Stones references...😛
I watch nearly every one of your videos, Dennis, but I somehow missed this one. Thank you so very much for all these substitution suggestions. I am chomping at the bit to try some of them. Diane
Wonderful Substitutions! It's good to remind everyone that they can eat without feeling deprived. Sure, you can't eat anything you want but there are still so many good and tasty foods to eat. So much to be thankful for.
Thanks Dennis for always giving us refresher courses on all these great alternatives to all the bad guys. You are the best! Hope you and Benedicta had a great Thanksgiving!
Hi, Dennis! Thank a bunch for sharing these alternatives. I'm still struggling to switch to healthier options but I know I will eventually get the hang of it. I am prediabetic and I hope all prediabetics will take the healthy leap just like me. It's a struggle but not impossible to overcome. 😉
When it comes to labels on bread I tend to test them with my glucometer anyway because the law says they don't need to tell you the exact carb in the product as long as they are not off by over 30% or so and with the keto bread I find they take advantage of that and many times what is advertised as 2 carbs per slice is far from and if you eat 2 slices even with nothing inside you would spike. I make way nicer buns and pastry at 3.9 carbs for a nice big burger bun that hardly moves the dial. I wish you had the community tab active so we can all share.
I tried the spaghetti squash tonight and it was really good with my homemade sauce! Everyone loved it, especially my diabetic daughter! Definitely a keeper. I'm looking forward to trying your other substitutes. Thank you.
Hi Dennis...we met at IHop mckinney...there i mentioned you are so helpful that i was diagnosed with diabetes....in april...had 9.6 A1C....well as of Nov 17th...A1C. 5.2....on 1 shot daily but hardly any med in it..and hope to be off meds entirely by February..my next Dr visit...lost 55lbs...and i did enjoy Thanksgiving traditionally....ok cheated a nit. But levels still very good...wanted to update and THANK YOU....
I am from Chennai, India. In our culture, we use groundnut oil, sesame oil and coconut oil only. My grandma used to say,,- for breakfast use groundnut oil, for lunch - prepare the food with sesame oil & for dinner use coconut oil.
I regularly watch your videos and I have been greatly benefited. You are an inspiration to beating diabetes. Sir, what was your highest blood sugar reading before you could beat it? I would love to know this to give me strength to fight my own battle.
By the time I was testing, I was almost immediately moving toward a low-carb diet. So I doubt I caught some of my highest glucose levels. But I did have some that soared over 200 mg/dl within a short time. And sometimes they would plunge dangerously low three or four hours later. It was a crazy time, but soon I realized I would have to eat low carb, and things stabilized pretty quickly.
Thank you very much for your sincere encouragement. Everything you say is so encouraging, and I really appreciate that. I watch some videos at least twice! Thank you so much.! Thank you!
Kind of off subject, but I just have to say thank you for the time you take to make all these videos to help soooooo many people. I get very frustrated with the amount of information that is very misleading and alot of the time just wrong. I figured I had diabetes for a long time and finally got diagnosed back in mid August. Since then I've eat very healthy and started riding a bike. As of today I've lost 35 lbs and feel like I've started my life over. I turned fifty in August and know I will beat this and will never go back to how I lived for all those years. Thank you Dennis!
I need to always be watchful about my diet because carbs and sugars are like roaring lions ready to devour me if I give them a chance. I give in to an ounce of carbs pretty soon I can be overwhelmed. Be always watchful Blessings Dennis and many thanks
Thank you so much for the update regarding low carb alternatives small portions are helpful. Dennis am so glad i have stayed with you through ur channel u are a great teacher not just for me but for the community.😊
Hi Dennis. I got my chia pudding recipe from you so thought I would share a tweak I have made. I use 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds and 1/2 a scoop of chocolate collagen and 2/3 cup half-and-half. Stir it real well and shake it grill well.. Refrigerate and shake a few times over the next couple of hours. When it's has set up a bit sprinkle on a layer of sliced almonds and frozen raspberries. The raspberries will thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Super yummy and has a nice cereal crunch.
Thanks Dennis! Have you heard about Maple Hill 0 sugar milk? It is grass fed and they have it whole or low fat. Wonderful! And Steve at Serious Keto made some exciting pasta that is like a science experiment. And hearts of palm
Thank you for all the great suggestions. Mz. Hemingway Simply Carolyn told me to check out your channel and I've enjoyed it so much. Your content is good and your voice is so soothing. I could listen to you all day. ❤
Thank you for the advice and substitutes that are healthy. The adjustments take a while to get used to but I have a body to save, mine! I inherited this issue too but I can overcome it. 😊
I have heavy whipping cream for recipes. Never heard of making milk replacement out of it. Always used Almond milk, but I'm anxious to try this. Thanks Dennis, love your channels. Merry Christmas!
Love these substitute foods videos! So helpful. You not only show us what's bad for our bloodsugar but you give some great and tasty replacement options. Keep these videos coming. Love ya.❤
It was hard to stay focused after you mentioned rice 🍚 ☺️ But I will certainly be removing rice and all of the other items on your “No” list from my diet. Thank you! ♥️ your videos!
I was taught from a young age that milk is very good for me. I held on to that belief for dear life, little did I know I was drinking poison. I am 42 and making the decision to stop today.
Agree with almost all the subs, EXCEPT the homemade cereal. I'm sorry a frickin bowl full of nuts and seeds doesn't count as cereal! Lol. Every time I'm grocery shopping and get excited when I see a new low carb cereal and it's just nuts, seeds and "coconut smiles" I'm always like, STOP MARKETING THIS AS CEREAL!!!! 😉 Oh and spaghetti squash has been a god send for me. It's so versatile and I rely on it alot. Pad Thai with spaghetti squash rocks!
If you grind up all the nuts and seeds and add butter, sweeteners and cinnamon, you can create a oatmeal like texture. Ive been doing that since i dont like wearing my false teeth. I let my mixture sit in the fridge over night then add the cinnamon, truvia and melted butter and heat it all in the microwave. Looks and feels like oatmeal. Almost taste like it.
There's something called CarbaNada pasta we use (not everyday) for pasta dishes. It's very delicious. It tastes like fettuccini noodles. It's 17 carbs for 1 1/2 cups dry. I'm not sure how it does on blood sugar. It's not super cheap, but it's very filling, so one bag usually makes my husband and I 5 meals, maybe more if noodles isn't the main dish.
This morning is 154. To me that’s good because I did not put insulin last night . Yesterday with thanksgiving it went up but dropped down to 137. I’m grateful that I’m reducing insulin levels .
The best oils are mono-unsaturated (olive oil and avocado oil) and short/medium chain saturated fat (coconut oil). In the 1970's the "Center for Science in the Public Interest" which was and is a political agenda group, pushed us to cut out eggs, coconut oil, and to replace them with carbs and polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oils). All of their "advice" has been proven to be damaging to the health of those who followed it. Polyunsaturated oils are easily oxidized, and our bodies cannot easily process the oxidized version of these oils as opposed to the oxidized versions of the monosaturated and saturated fats for which we have metabolic pathways to eliminate. So our bodies, unable to process the oxidized vegetable oils, shunts them into the fat deposits and cell walls... The fat cells store them unused for the most part as they cannot be metabolized readily, and the cell walls that contain them become stiff and yet leaky as they do not fit properly into the lipid double layer... increasing the likelihood of infection, cell malfunction and cell death.
Thx. Will try substitutes. I saw a video where you added beans ( maybe to rice or to soup) and it made it blood sugar spike less ( if I remember correctly). I don't have a meter yet and wonder if you tested/tried, using a quartered sliced of a banana, and spread a good amount of almond butter on it to make bananas spike insulin less? Or top it with nuts and seed. Or lay slices of avocados on it. Always love your blood sugar test videos because they reveal so much. Thanks again.
As for a pasta sub, you tube is going crazy with noodles made with molecular gastronomy products (keto asian flavors, serious keto, keto twins, high falutin low carb). Supposedly, the noodles taste like real sppaghetti. The process of making them looks like a lot of fun too. Maybe I'll ask for the ingredients for Christmas.
