I’m picking up the guitar again after a 50 year layoff. (Still have the same guitar, too!) In looking for a better guitar teacher than the one I had way back when, I came across your postings. Let me just say that you’re presentation is so warm and honest that you make learning enjoyably relaxed. Not worried about being the next Jimmy Page, just want to make me and those around me smile! Happy to subscribe and just want to say Thank You!

Im a metal guitar player and can play some really hot licks but when it comes to chords and strumming Im basically a beginner. Your videos really help me learn the stuff I neglected when I first picked up the guitar years ago.
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 6 месяцев назад
Hi. That happens a lot. We want to learn how to play solos, we focus on that and can get pretty good at it. Then we realize that we've skipped some fundamentals and have to go back. That's totally fine. Learning chords will also help with your soloing. The guitar is mainly an instrument used for accompanying so learning chords and strumming patterns will help you learn the instrument better and in general make you a better musician. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing! 👍

Steve Stone, thank you for throwing in the tid bit about slight variance in chords, and NOT to worry about it. I DON’T know a great deal about music so when a buddy mentioned, play/practice correctly, And you won’t know how to play incorrectly. i took it to heart, really narrowing the spectrum of play though to a chord chart.... I learned chords from a chart, and have gotten discouraged to progress at times because of slight variations out there. Making me questioning what I knew, and worrying that I’d learn the wrong way and have it in my repertoire.

Hey, Steve, any suggestions for a few more basic chords we can be working on after these? Thanks!
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 7 месяцев назад
Hi Steve. After you have these 10 chords there are a few open chord you might want to look at. Some are very similar to the first 10 and all you have to do is add or remove one finger. Here are a few: Em7 (022030), Am7 (X02010), Dm7 (XX0211) the great thing about adding the 7th is that it makes the minor chord sound a bit brighter. Then you can try some dominant 7th such as E7 (020100), A7 (X02020) and D7 (XX0212). Another great open chord you can try is known as Cadd9 and this goes very well with the G chord. This is the voicing X32033. The next step would be to start learning 5th string and 6th string Barre chords. Hope this helps and answers your question. If you want to dig deeper into this and other topics make sure to check out this link and join the Black Friday early bird list for Golden Ticket. Here's the link guitarzoom.com/goldenticket/earlybird (automatically enter the $1,500 giveaway). Hope to see you there. 🙂

A bit confused on the Bm chord, you mentioned 1st finger on the E (1) string but my chord book shows it barring it all the way from the A(5) string to the E(1) string, which is right? Just a bit of clarification on this would help a lot. Thank you! 🖖 Max Power
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 5 лет назад
The "easy" way to play is to just press on one string, but if you can learn to press on 5 strings, you are on your way to developing what we call the "5th string Barre Chord" which is awesome! Either way works, depending on what works for you, but understand that learning to press on all those strings is coming soon either way :-)

Steve Stine Guitar Lessons That’s fantastic info, Steve! You’ve got great stuff on your channel (subbing) thank you soo much for the quick response, too. I’m a newbie, although I feel I’ve been that forever, but hey, it’s a journey, right? Ha ha! Anyway, I alway try to learn my fingering, picking, chords without any short cuts, I feel that it will make me a better player in the long run; I’ve had a bit of a trouble with that Bm chord, especially doing the “what’s going on” by the None Blonde” riff that it uses. Switching from A to Bm barring is a challenge but I’ll get it eventually. Thanks again🙏. 🖖 Max Power

I have a question maybe you can answer...I was experimenting making barre Chords and I "invented" one ,where the barre is the second fret,fourth fret I use just two fingers on the D and G strings and it sounds beautiful. I can't find what it's called, though, even after searching online chord images. Thanks!

Wouldn't the B minor be a Bminor/F#? Or B minor second inverssion?

You are correct, but beginners wouldn't really know what all that means, so I avoid confusing them even more...there is time to learn it all :-)

Can someone tell me why on some strings you want to strum all 6 some 5 and some 4 strings?

Thanks for posting. Great video. Although Status Quo made millions from playing just 3 chords :)

Absolutely! It's not about the quantity, it's about the quality.

Thanks Steve. My only question is, why was I taught that a G chord is only played with three fingers Low E,3rd fret, A, 2nd fret and High E 3rd fret?

4 finger G, or Big with the D# on the B is a relatively new thing in grand scheme of chords. Makes coming or going to D easier, or meant to, I find them all tough👍😉

***** thanku 4 the lesson, that was very helpful to me, I knew all them 1st 8 chords so that gave me a bit of confidence, the d minor is probably the hardest of the 1st 8 chords , but the last 2 chords f? Or b? Were hard on my fingers,,, kind of like c was when I first learnt it, is there any trick to keep fingers in position spread out like that? Because just those last two chords really hurt my fingertips and left indents in my fingers and I even have brand new strings on,... Like is there a practice technique to keep them fingers in that position for long periods, how do I do that
