I explain ten reasons why you’re not losing belly fat on keto. I know you want your belly to shrink! But here are the reasons why it might not be:
1. You’re not doing keto correctly. And you may need to bring your carbs down to under 20 grams per day, along with moderate protein and the right amount of fat.
2. You’re not doing intermittent fasting, which decreases insulin and accelerates your results.
3. It’s working even though you think it is because your weight loss has slowed since you began. This is normal! Your goal is to get healthy, then lose weight.
4. You have a fatty liver, which reduces your capacity to make ketones and growth hormones and shed body fat. If your stomach is large, your body will have to rid itself of fat in the liver first before you can lose belly fat.
5. You’re gaining muscle. If you’re a menopausal woman, you may have lost a lot of muscle. Your body needs time to rebuild it.
6. You’re not exercising correctly, or at all. Exercise isn’t a primary tool for weight loss, but it will increase growth hormone and will tone your muscles. High-intensity exercise is best.
7. You’re actually bloated from the food you eat. It may be from vegetables or eating too much fat or food allergies.
8. You have other health problems such as thyroid issues or other hormonal problems. Focus on remedying other health problems.
9. It may be your medications. Common ones which prevent weight loss are statins and antidepressants. Work with your doctor to see if there’s an alternative.
10. Stress and lack of sleep can prevent losing belly fat. I’ve treated people by tweaking their sleep, and they started losing weight!

I did intermittent fasting cold turkey - 20 hours no eating, 2-4 hours eating. After a month my glucose dropped from 108 to 81 and I lost 25 lbs - 185 - 160 lbs. I am 73 years old.

Down 45 lbs in 24 wks. But he's right max 2lbs a week now and most times 1 lb. If I dont go for walks I only lose half a pound. Im 42 and need to lose 70 more pounds. Just keep going!!!

I started off with a health 1 pound a week for my first month but in my second month I started exercising and muscle building and I lost far too much weight even though I increased my calories by around 500 calories. I was losing 2.25 pounds a week. Trying to lessen it now by exercising less often and eating bigger meals.

Chocolate Sunday I try to do at least 10,000 steps a day but usually that turns into 12,000 steps 4 days a week and the other 3 are like 3-5,000 because I just cant get out to walk.

I have been doing Keto for 6 months and still have belly fat to lose which I would expect. I know people that have had the stomach sleeve surgery to get the results I have now. I started Keto 17 days ago and I have lost 14 lbs so far. I was shedding quickly at the beginning then it started to slow down because I was also exercising. The weight loss seemed to slow way down and then I realized that I was putting on muscle while the fat was being burned off. Belly and love handles have decreased dramatically. Keep at it and don't give up. This really works. 86 the booze too.

Going down! 25lbs in a month and counting. Haven't even started exercising, yet. Working with intermittent fasting is the backup magic! Not hungry so who cares? It's nice to be able to say no to food... without hunger consequences! The empowerment that comes with Keto is half the fun. Can't wait to get where I'm going but am no longer afraid of being overweight again! Listen to Dr Berg, he's on point.

@Beyblade master David Are you drinking alcohol?. This is a very common x factor that nearly everyone misses. There's 3 problems with trying to lose weight while still drinking alcohol. 1. It's extra calories. Calories still count and it doesn't matter if it's "low carb" drinks alcohol still has calories. 2. It slows down your resting metabolism. Most of your daily calories are burned from the beating of your heart and keeping your body heat to 98.6. Alcohol slows your heartbeat and lowers your body temperature. 3. Your body can not metabolize stored fat in the presence of alcohol. It has to metabolize the alcohol first. This can be up to 8 hours for a single drink and up to 3 days after a binge.

I have to say that I looked 6 months pregnant and had assumed I'd be that way forever. It was doctor Berg's video about healing a fatty liver - that turned things around and now it's much flatter and I've lost 42 pounds - So far. I have to say that the key was shifting my paradigm from losing weight to healing my fatty liver. The rest takes care of itself.

@@mohamudsharif8119 Hi. The simple answer was that I increased my consumption of fatty meats and fish - salmon is perfect - and I added lots of cruciferous vegetables. My two main ones are broccoli and sprouts. However, combine that with a little bit of intermittent fasting and the results are off the chart.

Rice is actually great if your trying to put on muscle but I mean it's not keto and you might gain some fat unless your burning it in workouts.

Dinar AndFriends I've been doing this for a long time, and my arteries are as clean as a newborn's. Liver and kidney function, and all bloodwork is great except for a slight vitamin D deficiency which is normal in my corner of the world and easily remedied. I also have type 1 diabetes and require a mere 2 units of insulin now, so what's not to love.

@@imwidetoya5206 as long as your foods sugar content is below 7 grams per 100 gram you should be fine as you aren't receiving an insulin spike. Insulin is the main thing which is also the reason why you have to somewhat mind the amount of caffeine you drink. If you aren't or are doing IF with Keto, add a bit of fat to your coffee to reduce the insulin spike.

I'm now 3 months in and have lost over 30 lbs. I've been doing the 16/8 IF along with my keto lifestyle and so far it going great. We all come to a stumble but never give up because you will meet your goal. Everyone is different so don't get down if some are losing faster than you...water weight comes off fast in the beginning. I love how I'm getting back into my older clothes...first got back into my 18s, then my 16s, and now my size14s. Keep going, stay motivated, and keto on!!!

I guess this diet works for everyone but me. Judging by the comments here, or maybe this is just a cheerleading section for Dr. Berg and all the realistic comments are deleted. This diet is not working for me. I have no idea why. It work for my husband and he has cheated. I have been very careful and this diet is not working and is causing insomnia and drastically increased nocturia along with a bonus gift of aching legs at night. Fun stuff. Then I get rewarded with constipation and a pregnant looking belly that looks BIGGER than it did when I started 5 weeks ago. And yes, i get plenty of fiber, flax seeds and psyllium husks in my salad. Even take Cascarda Sagrada herbal laxative which haven't helped much. This diet is doing nothing good for me, but plenty bad. I'm hanging on right now but I'm about to switch to the Primal diet if I don't see something positive like all the "glowing reviews" I'm reading here and having a very hard time believing any of them. There HAD to be something negative along the way but every one of these comments are perfectly positive. Sorry, ain't buying it. Life doesn't work that way. Especially not for me.

@@reesedaniel5835 it may be the extra fiber causing the issues. Also, if you have imsulin resistance it can take a year to fix that and get the weight to start coming down. Hang in there.

In our mid 50's, my wife and I both started dieting. I am full blown keto and intermittent fasting. I lost 36 pounds 4 pants sizes and have a lot of energy now. She is struggling with this belly fat issue now. She has lost 28 pounds, has more energy, but has not a pants size. She has been a little depressed. I told her to just keep working at it you're doing great. I told her it's a life style. It won't happen over night. Her 28 pounds was lost in 5 months, which I think is terrific. I can't wait to show her the video. Thanks doc.

I've been on keto for 8 days. Down 10 pounds!!!! I don't have keto flu or cravings and find my overall health amazing. The inflammation in my knees are gone. I have 60 plus pounds to go but so far this lifestyle is a keeper. Love watching Dr Berg and will continue so on my journey.

I can vouch to this. A year ago I was using a cane to walk. Then I changed to the keto lifestyle. I am now able to stand at my kitchen sink, stove, and able to stand a table to prepare all of our foods. Maybe not for hours, but definetly for more than 10 minutes. I can now do little dances around the house. I have only lost 14 pounds, but I know I have been gaining muscle. So I am not skinnie minnie yet, but skoot over minnie I am coming to push you out of your place! Lol. (No cane anymore.)

Jeannette Grondin I have fibro also. I do leg lifts, more leg excerise, then I stretch them out 3x a day. I also have found a corrective chiroprator(just started this). Then as I have improved I just do short burst dancing, lots of leg movement, the height you lift your feet depends on energy and/or pain. If you have lots of foot pain in morning, get a ball, tennis, golf, or small baseball. Keep this on the floor by you bed, roll your foot forward and backward 10x each point toes out then up to stretch the foot out and warm it up. It will definitely change your outlook at that morning rise. Good luck.

24 days on Keto Diet here and I have no energy whatsoever. No energy began after about 5 days and hasn't stopped. Also started getting restless legs in the middle of the night and frequent urination (nocturia) has increased so I am not getting restful sleep. Never noticed any weight loss, clothes still fit the same. Haven't weighed myself because I'm afraid I will lose my motivation completely. This diet makes me feel like I'm trudging through quick sand every day. But it's my last hope so I'm not quitting. Maybe I'm one of those "lucky" people who lose 2 pounds a month on this diet, which means it will take me a year to lose the 30-35 pounds I need to lose to fit back into my skinny clothes, which have been hanging in the spare bedroom closet for 20 years..One thing is for certain, I'm tired of eating mass produced poison designed to make the entire population a "diabesity" cash cow for the system.

I clicked on this video so fast because it addresses my exact problem. I've been on strict keto AND omad for almost 33 wks and still have a sizable belly despite losing 38 kgs (84 lbs) of my 60 kg target loss. That is an average loss of 1.15 kgs (2.54 lbs) per week, which is even better than the amount that Dr Berg says should be possible, so I take heart in that and figure that my fatty liver may still need more time to repair itself.

Just wanted to say I started doing Keto in early Oct. 2018. My blood pressure with Hydrochlorothiazide was 150/90 on average during the afternoon resting. It was 160+/100+ during stress. I'm an EMT so I have access to monitoring blood pressure on the job whenever I need so I tended to keep a pretty detailed record on the ups and downs of my BP. It is now Nov. 30th and my blood pressure today is 125/75 with no medication. I was a walking time bomb before. I feel so much better now. This is the real deal. Don't give up. Oh and also I am sub 200 pounds for the first time in 15 years. Thanks Dr. Berg. You're awesome sir!

Did you go off your meds on your own or under your doctor's supervision? I stopped taking mine during the first 3 months on Keto and it went through the roof. Back on them again and I've stalled terribly. I do OMAD and IF 20/4. Strict keto. Just curious your method. Thanks!

My husband has been on Keto for only 3 1/2 weeks and his belly is so much more softer already, as his liver is obviously healing and he is losing his visceral fat! I'm so proud of him for sticking with it. He has just started intermittent fasting yesterday, and was surprised that he wasn't even that hungry after fasting for 16 hours (he's 41 years old, so 16 hour fasting, eating 2 meals during 7-8 hours). I've learned so much by watching your videos in order to help him along. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!

It's only really hard at first because our bodies have been addicted to sugar and carbs for years. Once you go on keto for a bit, carbs and sugar just aren't as appetizing anymore even when you go back to them. Also, sugar cravings stem from not getting enough vegetables/potassium.

Started Keto 5 months ago along with my husband, we are both in our early 60’s. Hubby and I have lost approx 12 kilos he continues to loose but I am stuck, haven’t lost for 3 to 4 weeks. After watching this video I’m heading straight to my doctor, since Keto my type 2 diabetes is perfect my cholesterol is perfect and I’m getting off the anti depressents too. For the first time in years I feel energetic and I have more focus, only thing I struggle with is lack of sleep I don’t know if I can do anything about it because it’s chronic pain that keeps me awake. I found this video really helpful I have lost weight everywhere except my belly, this video helped me understand why. I love the fact that I have lost weight on my fingers, yes my fingers I hadn’t worn my wedding ring for at least 10 years because I couldn’t get it on, now it slips so easily onto my finger, how crazy is that!😄

So many things in my life need to change but I stopped drinking for 1 month so far. Got my a mood stabilizer, quiet quit my toxic job, and starting walking 10,000 steps a day, and a little bit of weight training. My gut is actually going down a little. I'm starting keto and IF. My heaviest was 230lbs and I'm like to get back down to 168-170lbs.

cordelia dunjana 1,500 max a day. I recalculate my macros every 20 pounds I lose. :) It was 1,600 but I’ve lost 47 now since this comment so it went to 1,500. x

Dr Eric, I'm a bodybuilder and I switched to keto from a moderate carb/moderate fat diet. I'm 58 years old and I saw immediate results by just raising my fats to 65% carbs 5% protein 30%. I train heavy 5 times a week. I haven't tried IF yet. Thank you for the great content.

I have the book and it's great. I'm using Myfitness to track my food. I drink water with ACV and lemon every single day. I fast from 9-9 and sometimes longer if I'm not hungry. I'm down 6 pounds! Thanks Dr Berg!😇

@Juan Diaz At the beginning you can lose alot of weight because of lost water and waste that still remain in your gut. After this you will hit plateou and see small change. For me it was 100-150g of fat lost per day while eating and excercising.

I don't know I'm doing IF for years until I watch here in RU-vid I eat 2x a day but I strictly add KETO diet for 2weeks now and amazing I lost 1kilo already since I'm 5'2 I'm 54kilos now what I have to do is to maintain my weight and to work hard for my body tone by adding 30 mins exercise daily. IF and keto is the best thing happen to my life in more energetic.

5ft 2 at 54 kilos should be about your ideal weight. I’m 4ft 11 and as of today I’m 75.3kg my ideal should be about 52/53kg or so my doctor tells me. I have a long way to go but I’ll get there. Only started 6 days ago and already lost 1.2kg.

Starting my 3rd month and starting to fine tune my likes and dislikes, buying habits and taste buds. Seems my appetite is the most dramatic change. I skipped dinner yesterday and never looked back. I haven't even cheated ! The food taste different to me but mainly the taste of sugar. Lost 4 inches in my waist, lost 15lbs. blood sugar aic is 6.2 and looking forward to more success. The beginning Keto is really important so have faith. Also, started IF, apple cider vinegar and adjusted all things to my lifestyle. Thanks so much Doc!

Thank you for the video! I lost a lot of weight after doing CrossFit but I still have stomach and thigh fat that doesn't seem to be going away with the keto diet. I haven't been following keto perfectly either, but I also think it has a lot to do with my sleep and stress levels. This January I've focused a lot on dietary changes so now for February I'm hoping to focus on being able to rest and calming down!

This is good to know Dr Berg! I was loosing mostly water for the last two weeks. I have slowed down now. My doctor told me today that 3 pounds a week was great but I was depressed over it, then I read this and know why. He’s hoping I get down to 200lbs. So I’m going for that more realistic goal now.

Thank you, Dr. Berg! I have been following you for some time and have your book too. I went to my doctor yesterday to get results of tests I had. And I do not have diabetes like I thought and my thyroid is okay too. I lost 11.5 lbs in 18 days (and I am usually a very slow loser)! Intermitten Fasting and keto is all I did. Not one little bite of anything not on keto and I made myself stick to it. It was so worth it! Thank you!!!

I started at 275 in middle of April, its May 31st I'm at 245. Now my wieght loss is not as fast it seems . BUT! I feel so much better and my mind is so much clearer. Over all I just feel so much better. I have been doing physical things almost on a daily basis. I dont workout persay, but I have been doing gardening and redoing flower beds and moving border rocks. All things I wanted to do, but simply didnt have the energy to do, so I'm building muscle, I can feel it. I look at it this way, even if its only a lb and a half or one pound a week I lose from here on out. In one short year I will be at my target, actually sooner. I at this point dont care about the wieght. I believe it will come off. What I do care about is how much better and more enjoyable my life has become. Thank you Dr Berg. This has changed my life in such a good way!

I guess everybody's body reacts different as you've mentioned in one of your previous videos. I was a bit shocked when you said that we should cut out apples. I'm a 51yr old woman fairly active and very healthy. Apples is one of the main reasons why my weight stays consistent - combined with a daily walking routine. Even before I started (fast) walking for 30min daily, I had constipation maybe once every 2weeks. What I then realized, was when there were no apples at home I tend to get constipated after a few days. Apples combined with a glass of water early in the morning actually boosts my metabolism and keeps me regular. I buy what is called "pink lady" in South Africa. It has a beautiful sweet and slightly sour taste almost a perfect balance. It's like when I was taught at school - an apple a day, keeps the doctor away.😀

Started dropping instantly when I was doing IF coffee in am and then a lunch/dinner late afternoon, the second I go back to just keto I get stuck not losing, IF is a huge key for me, I am insulin resistant and have fatty liver disease, just gotta stick with it and realize the good it’s doing your body!
