they are trying to kill each other, yet they are still cordial and professional by referring to each other as "Mr." they don't make men like that anymore
As a kid growing up in the 80's, this is the one flick that kept catching my eye time and time again, because it had the coolest case in the video shop - it was the same cover you can see here, but the case was in the shape of a coffin, brilliant! And when I was finally old enough to watch it, I loved it. I enjoyed the novelty VHS cases, but I can only remember two - this one and Cameron's Closet. I'm sure there were others though.
The detail and intricacy of the movie's poster art is amazing...another thing missing in modern movies. The 1980's movies had some wonderful art: original Friday the 13th, Bloody Birthday, etc.
Here in Australia, I saw Fright Night the day it opened at cinemas in 1985, as I did with Nightmare on Elm street. Recently bought the Fright Night 4K imported steelbook; saving it for a rainy day though. Love my horror movies.
9:45 The German subtitle translates to "The Vampire Next Door - The book to the film" so I'm assuming the movie was retitled to The Vampire Next Door in Germany.
Saw this movie in 1985. I watch every time it's on TV. Never bought the DVD or disk because I don't want to burn out on it. "Welcome to Fright Night, for real!"
Producers didn't give much more backing to Fright Night 2 as it was put out in limited release. It's very enjoyable. You can't top Chris Sarandon though.
Para mi fue una buena película la hora del espanto la vi cuando era niño la vi en el canal 4 los domingos en televisa antes de poner el canal de noticias asi uvo otras que vi en esos tiempos en mi país México bueno 👍 video
Even back when I first saw it, I got the impression that Evil Ed was secretly in love with Charlie, but of course it being the 80’s… Then the way he accepts the vampire gift. Yea, kinda homoerotic.
I remember watching this for the first time I really wanted to like this film the first half is great but the rest of the film fell flat for me I'm one of those fair individuals that thought the remake was better however I did enjoy the sequel.
Chris Saradon's vampire was so classy, stylish and intimidating, always grabbing a piece of fruit from thin air for a snack. lol *"You have to believe for that to work!"*
Chris Sarandons best role. One of the best vampires in film, hands down. Geoffreys as Evil Ed also had an incredible performance. Highly underrated horror film.
@ClintonAllenAnderson I thought of that since Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies. I actually just watched it the other night with my family but that's a much smaller role. In Fright Night, he has much more screen time and his charming and menacing vampire role is classic. He really makes that movie go.
@@festushaggen2563 Oh he's good in Fright Night But he's at his best in The Princess Bride Everything is at its best in The Princess Bride. It's one of the world's few perfect movies 😉
I got to meet Vincent Price once, and listen to him give a talk at my school. He was amazing! Polite, congenial, shook EVERYONE'S hand as we left the auditorium, and a GREAT speaker to an audience from young to old alike. I've never heard anything bad about him from others, either. Always polite, always a class act.
@AskAScreenwriter I've heard a lot of good things like that about him, it's a shame they don't bring up his name when talking about celebrities like Kenau Reeves or Fred Mcfeely Rogers.
@@mikelykan.9416In his talk he mentioned his love of cooking and his love of art, and yet he never seemed 'snobbish' or 'elitist' about either, but rather, fine food and fine art should be things that EVERYONE can enjoy.
Fright Night is hands down my all time favorite vampire movie. From the characters, actors that played them, script, humor, and the amazing music. I love this movie.
I am not huge on vampire films, but have to say Chris Sarandon's Jerry Dandridge is the best portrayal of a vampire I have seen. He owned the role, oozed charisma, made it work like a charm. Even though there were pioneers who did it first, bigger named actors who got more acclaim as vampires. or more successful movies in the subgenre, I still give it to Sarandon as the best.
Fright Night is one of my favorite horror films from the 80s. I didn't realize there was a novelization, but I've added it to my reading list now. Thanks, Minty!
The studio may not have taken Fright Night seriously, but I think it's one of the best vampire films I ever saw to this day and I never get tired of watching it.
Born in 1986. You wouldn't believe how many times I rented this movie in the early 90's on Friday movie/pizza night. Showed it to my wife about a year ago.
@@thedys70 Uhhhhh, wuhhhhhh, yes, *EXACTLY.* Why is that so hard to understand? I was -1 in 1985, when it came out. I was only 4 in 1990 and I probably didn't watch it or start renting it until 1992 when I was 6 and my brother was 9. Yeah, I guess it is "weird" that I didn't go out and rent it as soon as it came to video. I should have asked for it for my 1st Birthday! What was I thinking? I was having such deep and in depth conversations with my family at that time that it must have slipped my mind : )
Watched this movie with a buddy in grade 6 or 7. I always thought it obvious that Evil Ed was jealous of Brewster because of his looks and girlfriend. You're so cool sounds laced with envy.
Loved this film. So much better than the remake. Many of us grew up watching Roddy McDowell and was great to see him in this. Chris Saranden was HOT back then.
The part I remember about this movie will always be Charlie's friend Ed, having newly been turned to a vampire, reading that note from Charlies mom...."Your dinner is in the oven." The way he reads it is just pure comedy gold.
Proud to say I have a mint copy of the novelization. Cost a pretty penny too but worth it! Well written by authors who clearly wanted to expand the story without adding unnecessary elements or removing those seen in the movie. I'm surprised they didn't novelize Part 2 but NOW Comics did us that favor.
Best vampire film ever made, best horror film ever made. The perfect balance between chills and humour, with massive respect for the lore of the films it was homaging/slightly spoofing. I don't think it'll ever be beaten.
@@scottishdude9682And I think you’re a sad little git making pronouncements about what “you think” is really going on with someone you’ve got no clue about. Plum.
@Donathon-qx8kq Evil DID survive. When Peter Vincent pulled the stake out of his chest, he regenerated and at the end we see him watching Charley and Amy from Jerry Dandridge's house and saying, "Oh, you're so cool, Brewster!" and laughing.
Minty , love and laffs from Pittsburgh USA You're stuff is always good . Question : why do you keep saying WilliamS Ragsdale ? You even showed the film credits that say William ? By the way , you should have talked about the soundtrack . Its really one of the best rock tracks out there and I still have mine on cassette tape . G ' day mate !
A childhood favourite, so much I love about this film. Vampire-Amy's gaping maw was utterly terrifying, no wonder she's front and center on the poster! Now I'm gonna have the J. Geils track from the end credits stuck in my head all week!
Every actor was on their game on this film, William, Chris, Roddy, Stephen, Amanda, Jonathon gave brilliant performances with on top of that being a great script and screenplay, its just an instant classic horror/comedy film with the only one other film in that horror/comedy genre that could match it would have to be An American Werewolf In London. I still want to know though what the hell is Billy Cole meant to be? I was thinking some kind of Ghoul but im not 100% sure!
It's the same way MJ turned into werewolf in the movie within the thriller video but then turned into a zombie but then his girlfriend wakes up, but then the end of the video he has the werewolf eyes as Vincent price laughs.....its not supposed to make sense ...its just a frightening night....masterfully done
I think what would have been cool is if Peter Vincent was the creator of the vampire because when the vampire says to evil - "I'm going to give you a choice" scene - that could have been a hint that he was created from someone else - that someone else being Peter Vincent.
Thanks! I can't imagine any other actors in this film. It was a great homage to the original films. Also, Barnabas Collins in dark shadows tries to remake a lost love, so that's probably where that idea came from. ❤
OMG you're right! I forgot about that. I just commented that another video here that I recently saw claimed the trope of a vampire trying to turn the reincarnation/double of his lost love was invented by Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. But obviously that person was way off. Dark Shadows did it first!
@grannyweatherwax8005 thanks, Dan Curtis actually got the idea from a different monster, the mummy (karloff), who tries to resurrect his reincarnated love
The fact that Jerry didn't outright kill Charlie but instead just warned him was a sign that he wasn't pure evil. A monster for sure but one just trying survive. Of course it could also be taken that the game of cat and mouse he engages in may of a been a needed distraction from the tedium of immortality.
Better times, when vampires were beautiful, charming and scary the same time. Fright night 1 is an almost perfect film, i rewatch it sometimes until this day. "come to me" from brad fiedel is musical magic as its best. The seducing scene of the movie is hell out of cinema.
