I give props to the Director & all involved for allowing *LEVY* to improv his lines. That decision & the title choice were key in turning this movie from good to great!!
Let me take you back to the magical year of 1998… I was a senior in high school, 18 years old. Unfortunately, I got caught with my friends’s mother (she was 36). There was some drama at my high school and within our group of friends. Let’s flash forward a year, time has healed most of these wounds, and the group of friends go to the movies and see American Pie. We are crying we’re laughing so hard… until the Finch and Stiffler’s mom scene. It got very quiet and they all turned almost in unison and looked at me.
Makes sense...................his character is a pervy dad, especially in American Wedding where he tells Jim about his role playing in the bedroom with Mom!
Class of 2000 here, this movie was such a moment. It was close enough to what we were experiencing to be relatable yet fantastical enough to give escapism.
That portable stereo that Jim has on his shelf is a Panasonic RX-DT690 and I have had one since 1997. I love when I see things I own used in movies and television.
@@garystinten9339 Well, it is a great stereo! It can fill a moderately-sized room. There are many of them on Ebay now. I originally had the DT-680, but it died.
I think some people in this world need a reality check. American Pie was first and foremost a teenage comedy/drama that was meant to be taken that way. The film was released in 1999 which is hard to believe was 25 years ago, and for people who try to cancel it and want apologies for its content, I would tell them to relax and have some warm apple pie.
I rented the unrated version when it was newly released to the delight of my younger cousins. Not so delighted was my grandmother, since we watched it at her house.
2:15 I’ve BEEN to Yesterdog. As soon as I found out about it I had to try it out. In 2022 I made the pilgrimage. When I got there I ordered 3 chili dogs and a small Ginger Ale. They were some of the best chilidogs I’ve ever had. Also the interior of Yesterdog is similar to Dog Years, only a lot of it is wood paneling and it’s covered by decades of people’s signatures. It’s charming
Bill Murray as the dad would’ve been totally different and probably would’ve had a sub plot that focused on him. I was surprised he only had like 3 lines in the new ghostbusters
Actually Bill Murray had even more scenes, dialogue & sequences (as did many of the other actors) in Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (some of which can be glimpsed at in the trailer) but a lot of those scenes were unfortunately cut (to bring down the film's overall running time down from almost 3hrs to roughly a little under 2hrs) for the final theatrical version released in theaters....some of these (maybe even all - have to wait and see) deleted scenes/deleted sequences will be included in the upcoming standard & collectors editions DVD/Blu-Ray releases.
@@MrJmd116 - According to the director, a lot scenes were cut to shorten the running time but he has confirmed that a lot of them will be put on DVD & Blu-Ray (because he says, that everyone, cast and crew, put a lot of work into those deleted scenes and audiences should be able to see them).
Born in 81, class of 99... my friends and I loved American Pie. It's so weird that it's been 25 years and like the movie, I still remember so many things clearly. One thing that isn't talked about, is how much 99's music you hear in the Soundtrack. Blink 182, Harvey Danger... the music is such a testament to the times also. America Pie wasn't just a movie. It was a testament to the culture at the time. It's crudeness, has always been crude and still is crude in nature. High School kids are loud, obnoxious, sexualized young adults, trying to figure things out and screwing it all up. My own adventures with friends were similar to American Pie. Sexcapades, trying to lose my virginity; with just as many mishaps. The social life of a Senior in High School. I think American Pie could be made today. Just give everyone cell phones to hold, throughout the movie and bam. 2024!
I was going to be a senior in high school when this came out in the summer of 99. My friends and I loved it as we all related to it. I still love the franchise as I can relate to growing up, going to college, marriage, and reunions.
I was 18 about to be 19 when it came out, so just out of high school so I can relate. I love them all but the first and reunion are probably my favorites.
Same. I will always remember the controversy with kids trying to get in and movie theaters starting to ID people. I turned 17 that summer, so I guess I had good timing. Before that they would just ask you for your dob if you were trying to get into an r rated movie
@@topchief1 ha Same! My friend couldn't get in because they had an August birthday so they wouldn't let her in. So we all went to a different theater across town where they didn't care about checking IDs
@dalebaker9533 It absolutely is! The purity standards the woke mob calls for is virtually verbatim to the Puritan witch hunts. Anything that fails to be absolutely lockstep with the “correct” school of thought is canceled, threatened, and hounded into seclusion. The Puritan witch trials only ended when the mob accused the mayor’s wife. I wonder what it’ll take to end the current purges.
Absolutely loved (and still do) this movie and the 'original' sequels. Being from Michigan, and graduating from HS around the same time as these movies came out...the local connection was important to us. We knew it wasn't actually 'filmed' here but we still took the connection to heart and it DID feel authentic for the Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan area (for part 2). My two sons are 'almost' old enough for this film, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with them too!
I was at a certain point in my young adulthood when this movie was in the theaters. I had just moved across the country for work, I gained some really great friends and then moved on. I was only three years and I transferred south and so on and so forth. Crazy how time goes by, I can’t believe that was 25 freakin years ago 🤯. The real Time Machine is actually life, it only goes forward and it happens real freakin fast.
The next AP should go really bold and call it American Pie: Funeral or American Funeral. The series is about facing life head on, death is a part of this. Plus the odds of getting laid at a friend’s funeral are pretty high.
American Wedding was my absolute favorite and Sean William Scott as Stiffler was my favorite character. Reunion was great and I hope they make another installment!!
Ditto - The wedding has always been my favourite of the franchise. So many great moments like the dance off and Finch / Stiffler trying to out do each other at their own game 😂
@@DjJokerr part of the reason Wedding was the weakest was because half of the cast wasn’t even in the movie. Kevin had no point in even being in the movie, he might as well have been absent like Oz was as well as the rest of them
@@Skeksi_Man that still doesn’t save the movie. People who think that Wedding was the best are either crazy or stupid. It’s 1 thing if they liked that one, but saying it was their favorite is just ludicrous
The scene with Nania striping for Jim while the Webcam broadcast to the whole school was hilarious. Michelle, Stifler and Finch were my favorite characters.
Love ya Minty! Your closing statement is right on: "It's just a movie." People need to lighten up. Pretty easy: If this movie isn't your cup of tea, don't watch it. Thank you to you and your everyone on your crew!
Fun fact: when she was in Scary Movie the following year, she was originally supposed to play a different character. But she was determined to play Buffy
As a 16 year old in 1999 we had just great coming of age movies like this, Road Trip, Kevin and Perry, which followed awesome childhood movies like Goonies, Stand by Me and others. Makes me wonder if other generations had their movies? I find it hard to believe they were better than ours.
This movie came out just the right time for me in 1999 when I started my senior year of high school. It was like, these are characters that are my age. That's why the first and Reunion are my favorites. Several movie posters, new and old, would even copy the American Pie logo like Revenge of the Nerds 2 in order to cash in on the popularity of this movie as if to say, "If you like American Pie, watch this movie."
By far one of my favorite movies growing up. I saw part one the day before part 2 came out because all my friends were going to see part 2 in the theater and found out I had not seen part one yet lol
Thanks for playing laid by James. Id forgotten bout that one. Also, I grew up in East Grand rapids , and and yep. Ppl were screwing cantaloupe and doing teachers and college people. Bandcamp was just a hookup. If anything this movie was tame, but they got the parents stuff right. Everybody's folks were nice and just let us chill. Most of us turned out ok, the half that are left
I grew up in the 80's & 90"s & this movie along with the other teen flicks help make my teen year memories more fun. But I feel the biggest teen movie then was Varsity Blues. Minty PLEASE DO VARSITY BLUES!!
Don't get it twisted, Bill Murray is a cinematic legend! Ghostbusters, What about Bob, Osmosis Jones, ect.... he has a great IMDB resume! But I think he was just too Big for this movie. He likely would've overshadowed all the other more unknown actors. Levy was the better fit😂
My daughter always says in conversation with us “this one time” and myself and my mrs always follow up with “at band camp” and she’s never see the movie haha. It’s a classic and I love it.
Shit brick losing it in the women's bathroom has to be the funniest scene I've ever seen. You can even see Eddie Kaye Thomas trying to hold back his own laughter while on the thrown.
Here's my personal take, in 1999 I had the most traumatic break-up of my life and thought I'd never smile again. I went to see Pie in a half empty screen by myself and broke y shit laughing throughout the whole thing, I'm an 80's child and it was great to see the sex comedies of the 80's live again, but with great characters and a lot of heart. I will probably be buried with this film, and I thank everyone involved with it for getting me through a bad time.
I loved this series, I even had a few of the other ones as well. But the American pie ones with the og cast were the best. I'd love to see a new one with all the og cast to see what they are upto now.
The spinoffs were gold. Highly recommend. The first spin off “band camp” is the worse one. The naked mile is probably the best one beta house is a sequel to naked mile. I think they came out with a girl version on Netflix a few years ago that was ok
The late 90s to mid 2000s was such a magical and unique time to be a teen. The music and movie scene were on fire. I absolutely love the original 4 American Pie films, I have to watch them every year with my favorite drink at my side. It sucks that those movies and so many others will never get the love they deserve and a 4K upgrade because our feminist overlords refuse to allow our society to have a sense of humor...
The title is also a play on words. There is a metaphor in the US to describe something that is very “American” by stating that “_______ is as American as apple pie.” ***BONUS*** In the US the green plaid wallpaper design in Jim’s room is now officially named “American Pie.”
Is that your kitty cat????? So cute!!!!! And you know that in the US our flute is different than the one you have. Ours has a lot more....um keys...LOL! And it's played horizontal not vertical so it's just different LOL! And yes, I went to band camp for four years and had a friend that was a flautist (what a flute player is called)- but we never used our horns "after hours" LOL! But you have a really cute kitty!!!
American Pie was brillaint. Made at a time when the western working class were thriving and that shows. Would love to see movies like this return. Our culture needs it.
The say American Pie 5 will be about a vaction in Las Vegas with Jim and the crew getting into trouble. So imagine it will be something like the Hamgover but with the American Pie cast.
