Spider-Man 1 and 2 hold a special place in my heart not just for how iconic they were, but because they were some of the final and most memorable movies I got to see at the drive-in theater in our town during my childhood. It closed shortly thereafter and sat empty for several years before being torn down. I absolutely loved the drive-in when I was a kid, some of my favorite childhood memories are held there. I still miss that old theater to this day.
I know exactly how you feel , Spider-Man 1 was one of the last movies I seen at my local drive-in before being closed down . So many great movies and memories at that place and I miss it dearly. What's worse is my kids never got the chance to experience going to one . They don't underdstand just how special it truly was .
Oh man I would’ve loved if this movie came out at my drive in, unfortunately the movies they used to get there at the time were a few weeks or up to a month behind the newest releases. However in the last few years during the pandemic they’ve shifted to brand new ones. I saw Black Widow followed by Cruella last time the hubby and I went to ours. Thankfully it’s quite a popular spot where I live so if it ever closes that’s only due to no one wanting to run it anymore cuz they make their money at mine.
Everytime I watched that Aunt May's speech to Peter Parker about "There's an hero in all of us" moment, I bursted into tears because it really gives me hope and for being a hero can make a small good deed one small step at a time and it shows a good difference. "Spider-Man 2" still one of the most memorable superhero movie ever made and always will be.
The scene that always gets me (hokey as it sounds) is them bringing him back into the train, and then all the subway riders trying to protect him from ock. Gets me every time.
Yeah that's a great scene! Love how they tell him that they wont tell anyone who he is. Makes sense why its soo good. He planned it years in advance. A real vision come to life 😃
Tobey was awesome! He just laid the groundwork for everyone else that came afterwards. High-profile actor, that played the role like a pro. Look how iconic he and his villains were: they made a complete return in 2021!
You are entirely right! Spider-Man 2 is one of the best super hero movies of all time! Rosemary Harris absolutely CRUSHED it as Aunt May. I cried like a child when she had that hurt look on her face when Peter told her what he feared to say. And I felt like I could carry a mountain after her speech in the driveway! I FREAKING LOVE HER!
To me, this is something more than a film. It taught me the lesson that sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to in order to benefit others. It was a lesson I sorely needed at that time.
Alfred Molina is such an overlooked actor. He's terrific in everything he's in and I was so pleased to see him turn up in No Way Home as he was terrific as Doc Ock in Spider-man 2. Molina is rarely given lead roles in big films but he always manages to make his presence felt, even if he's part of an ensemble (watch Jim Jarmusch's 'film Coffee and Cigarettes' to see how well he plays off Steve Coogan in their portmanteau story together). He's also absolutely brilliant as Kenneth Halliwell opposite Gary Oldman in 1987s 'Prick Up Your Ears', a biopic about outrageous playwright Joe Orton. The pre-MCU Spider-Man films are very hit & miss to me but I agree that Spider-man 2 is probably the highlight of those five films. It has a good script, is well cast, has great effects and is well edited.
I watched No Way Home, and seeing Alfred Molina's performance after being "cured" moved me tears, having seen him as a kid in the second movie. The scene where he helps out in the final battle had me feeling some feels. Truly amazing.
my childhood film i love Alfred Molina as the villain this film is so good i might re watch it in 2022 as i legit had Goosebumps when toby appeared in no way home
All three Tom Holland Spider-Man movies and both Garfield Spider-Man movies are better than any of the stupid Toby McGuire movies. Tobey Maguire is one of the worst actors of all time
Still the best of the amazing Sam Rami's Spiderman trilogy and Tobey the G.O.A.T Spiderman. I also love how the plot keeps moving forward and everyone has their own individual stories. How Sam managed to let poor peter gotten beaten up. How Peter is getting fired from both his jobs, his relationships between MJ, Harry, Aunt May, his responsibility to the city all because he has to be Spiderman
I used to be a fan of Kirsten Dunst, until I read that she refused to dye her hair for the part of Mary Jane, then complained about playing the part. If you're not willing to be true to the character, don't take the part.
Hello Minty, I really busted out a laugh when you first appear in this episode in the Spidey suit! :D This was a fantastic movie. I've seen it probably 25 times. It also has a few very heartwarming and touching moments, like Peter rescuing the girl in the fire, with no powers, and the train crowd scene, aunt May's speech, and when MJ learns the truth about Peter. My one son always laughs hard when Aunt May says "shame on you!" Thanks for the video!
"The Power of the sun"-Otto "In the palm of your hand"-Peter "Peter?"-Otto (Peter takes off his mask) "Otto"-Peter "Why It's good to see you dear boy"-Otto "It's good to see you"-Peter "You're all grown up (laughs) how are you"-Otto "Trying to do better"-Peter This scene brought back so many memories seeing Spider Man 2 on screen for first time and loved relationship between Peter and Otto you can feel the student mentor relationship. Seeing the two have a brief reunion on No Way Home made emotional for those who grew up loving raimi trilogy. And Never thought we see Otto and Norman finally meet on screen their interactions for curing scene was something I wanted more of. No Way Home gave me something i never knew I wanted to see it so awesome seeing two best villains from the trilogy including Sandman (but he didn't get that much screen time) love the fact Marko knew about these two when he was prison.
I'm in my early 70's now & I had the greatest collection of Marvel Comics. I was a 'nerd' & could identify with how a young teenager with a skinny body & an excellent student in school could be treated badly by uppity, rich kids. Getting 'picked-on' by 'jocks' & 'rich kids' gangs sucked because of how 'they' treated me. Stan Lee's Marvel Comics took my mind away from my 'real world' & gave me joy & hope & the knowledge that I would become 'someone' some day that would be treated as an equal to everyone else. I thank Stan Lee for his stories about teenage angest(sp) & that anyone becomes a super hero just by the work they put into their thinking to help each other rather than 'bad-mouthing' & ridiculing them. Spiderman was my favorite comic & at one time I had over 250 Marvel comics of each superheros & super villians series starting at issue no.1 up to issue no.20!! Unfortunately, I LOST THEM ALL in their sealed plastic bags that I protected them with by leaving them with a friend with the agreement to keep them safe & I would send him money to ship them to me at the new home dad was moving us to. My friend sent me a letter & said he sold them to a comic book store because he needed the money & that he was sorry about that. I was devastated...BUT, now I am so glad to see people like: MINTY COMEDIC ARTS revealing the 'behind the scenes' INFO to Spiderman & LOTS of movies I love! Thank You Man!!
I remember being so excited for this film while in holiday in England. Bought the game there. Watched it the day after coming back to South Africa so I could play the game.
I agree. This is still the best Spider-Man film. The only one that in my view in terms of action in a story that should even be in the conversation is the animated Spider-Man: into the spider verse. That being said, no way home was a good film.
Spider-Man 2 is still one of the BEST superhero movies and sequels of ALL TIME!!! Spider-Man and Doc's battle on the tower and train is still one of the BEST fights I've seen in ANY superhero movie!!! Sam Raimi created two awesome sequels of all time! The other one being Evil Dead 2!
I will always see Alfred Molina as Angel from Maverick...the Mel Gibson western gambler movie from the 90s. Not the best movie but Molina killed it as the villain.
Honestly I think Jonah secretly does like Spider-Man and know he's a hero however he's feels it's his place to be the one to constantly be there to remind Spider-Man if you slip up I will hold your feet to the fire
I'm pretty sure that it was Sam Raimi who gave the names to Doc Ock's tentacles, especially since 2 of those names are from the three stooges, which Raimi is a huge fan of
Well said about how this movie greatly illustrates the huge responsibility that comes with being a superhero and the pressures that come with it. Cool WWE figure on the shelf there too.
There are rumors that in the "Multiverse" version of the MCU, John Krasinski could show up as Captain America for a minute. (Due to him almost being cast as Cap before Chris Evans.) Imagine if, in this same multiverse, Jake Gyllenhaal showed up as a Spider-Man! That would be pretty cool.
Best of the Spidey movies and one of my favorites of the superhero genre. From the scenes with Aunt May and MJ to JJ’s parts and that train scene that was epic from start to finish made this movie truly Amazing! Lastly, Doc Ock was absolutely one of the best “tragic villains” ever and his last line during his sacrificial final act was powerful… “I will not die a monster”
This and the 1st one from 2002 are the best of all the Spider movies. Also the Spider-Man 2 tie-in videogame was incredible at the time. I had the Nintendo GameCube version. Great memories.
As much as I loved No Way Home, Spiderman 2 will always be my favourite spidey film. I imagine the new one will also hold a special place in the hearts of the younger generation though.
I would have to say the greatest thing about Spider-Man 2 was the trailer when it showed Harry unmasking Peter on the couch, now that was just anticipation of waiting to see what was going to happen when you saw the movie.
Minty, thank you! Great video. I never knew any of this stuff! And the thing that really floored me was the Spiderman 2.1. I have seen it in stores before, but I always thought maybe it was just a cash-grab, not an extended cut. I really want to see that now!
I love Joey Diaz's short scene where he says to Doc Oc that he has to go through him if he wants Spider-Man and gets shoved aside with others. I'm off to go look for some stories of his, they're hilariously great.
When i saw this in the theater, during the train sequence when they do the big pan out to show the end of the track (even the score goes quiet here) one person in the back of the auditorium said "Oh shit!" and the entire room laughed.
I do remember they were going to name all the Spider-Man movies after each Spider-Man comic books. During that time period, sequel movies with 2, 3, and so on, were getting old to the public. Plus, sequel titles were trying to differentiate themselves from other sequels, like Shriek 2 for example.
Jake Gyllenhaal was dating Kirsten Dunst in 2004. In fact Kirsten Dunst had a hidden cameo in ''The Day After Tomorrow'' from 2004 which starred Jake Gyllenhaal. She's seen standing behind Jake while he's talking on a phone while talking to Dennis Quaid who played his dad.
I see all the comments about the love your fans have for the Spidey films, and they are all films I can watch again & again. But my comment today is more about my love for Minty. Thanks for all your work & for all the the fun I've had watching you, mate. I think I've been watching MCA for at least 5 years. Happy way-too-warm Christmas down there, sir. *salute*
As far as I am concerned the 1st two spidey movies put super hero movies at a whole new level. They were great, and they kept close to the source a lot more, with Peter always struggling in life.
I’m finna be 22 and this was the movie that I fell in love with the character i watched it everyday on vhs as a kid and these 3 films was a big part of my early childhood years
I was an extra for this movie. I spent two days on location in downtown Chicago pretending to be scared of the train every time it went by. The crew was super nice and craft services was delicious, good times!
I agree 100% definitely in my top 5. Spiderman 2 is a excellent movie, Stan Lee has said that Spiderman was his favorite character and really tried to relate with the struggles of a teenager. Relationships, school, parents, etc. Spiderman is one of the most relatable superhero ever...
