Its so frustratining when studio execs are involved. I remember hearing back in the 80s, George Lucas. Steven Speilberg, etc made films THEY wanted to see. And those are some of the best films. Studio heads ruined Batman 3 because they wanted to sell toys. TMNT was ruined because they wanted to sell toys. Hell, some of the greatest songs on the radio had to fought by the band to play because studio heads "no one will want to hear that". Studio execs are so out of touch they are the reason their companies lose money.
I really hope they don't screw everything up with Deadpool 3 with the MCU crossover finally happening! But I don't think they will. As long as Ryan Reynolds is still involved with how the character is written and portrayed I think it'll be fine. He knows exactly how to play Deadpool
The wait was worth it! Had to wait long enuf to get the studio execs to agree with a "superhero movie" with an "R" rating was a must and wouldn't have been the same without it. Great movies., Deadpool 1 and 2
Agreed, this movie for some reason reminds me allot of the first Robocop movie. For me it hits those same chords of surrealistic life meets hollywood wackiness with a dose of corrupt power mania in the best way. Also big props Minty for the marvel post scene '-)
No one is more perfect or could have made Deadpool as successful as Ryan Reynolds especially as in the comics Deadpool was a cross between Ryan Reynolds and a sharpei.
As a Canadian who lives in Vancouver, I can tell you that production was no secret. I drove past the filming of the bridge sequence for a week, traffic was a pain in the butt, but Ryan's a local kid that was making sure there was work for us folk out there, so we cut them some slack. This sort of thing is kind of hard to keep a lid on, especially when you can see it from every building. Deadpool 2's scooter sequence was filmed across the street from my office so again, not much of a secret, but as a city used to this, we didn't rubberneck or get in the way ( but it was kind of cool to be that close to a location).
My neice worked at this expensive grocery store that was attached to this expensive hotel that a lot of famous people stay at. She told me that Ryan had come to the store, and so grabbed a basket of items to go back on the shelves, someone tried to take the basket from her, but she was like "I already have it." So she went an stalked him around the store. And then during that visit, she saw him talking to the deli meats guy for some meat. And she said that she went to talk with another employee and both of them were like "HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HIM!" I laughed at the story and told her to stop stalking famous people...but I feel I would have done the same. XD
Ryan definitely leaked the footage himself. He's a marketing genius. "If I knew that would happen, I would've..." is just his sarcastic way of saying "I knew that would happen, so I did".
That was a HUGE gamble though, to be fair. The studio saw it and passed and it was a big gamble to leak it to the public, who could've just as easily passed on it. It was a 50/50 shot though so he really lucked out, if he was the leaker. Regardless, I'm glad it leaked and led to it being made as-is.
@@BigDaddyJinxI feel he knew it would be more on the good side of the 50/50 because of the Deadpool fans out there. But agree, there's always a chance it could have gone south.
You realize that Logan was a future version of wolverine right? It takes place the same time as the days of future past timeline but an alternate version of it. Besides that it's actually an alternate alternate version of wolverine in the next Deadpool, not necessarily the Fox timeline.
Thank You Ryan Reynolds & crew for fighting to give us the Deadpool Franchise we always wanted on the big screen. Can’t think of anyone else that could have pulled the character off & made it as fun as you all have done so far.
I was happy that Ryan Reynolds was able to redeem Deadpool after X-Men Origins Wolverine. The jokes were funny, the action was Bloody hilarious, and Colossus was my favorite character.
Colossus as a big boy scout was a great straight man to Deadpool's act. His reaction to a female opponent's wardrobe malfunction was hilarious, if unrealistic.
I love Deadpool. When I saw it at the theater, they were asking for IDs as the lady told me, teenagers were showing fake ones to see the movie. I don't blame them as it was rather good. Can't wait for the third one! Edit: Forgot to mention, one of the advetisements was to help men find out if they had testicular cancer as well. This helped a friend of mine get checked as he actually had it and they caught it early. So all thanks to Deadpool, it saved his life.
This film deserves all the praise it can get. So much was riding against it, but it shines through. I really hope its heart doesn't get watered down in the MCU.
Shows that studio executives are so clueless as to what makes a good movie. And now they want to use computers to replace the people who actually know what they are doing.
@@kraevgamesHe paid for the shirt of Bea Arthur (to a charity her family wanted it to go to) in the first movie alone! I mean, honestly, worst case, he pulls the Bootleg Universe and we get RU-vid Movies of him being Deadpool because, let's face it, he is Deadpool. With Canada's most powerful superpower: Health Care!!!
Never was a fan of Ryan Reynolds or Deadpool but after seeing this and what a nice guy he really is (visiting the sick child) and the trouble he went thru as a passion project I’m gonna watch it.
From what I've heard, the whole "no mouth" thing in Origins was because Reynolds himself just would not shut up about how badly they were mis-using the character, so the producers got rid of Deadpool's mouth purely to spite him. "Supposed to be The Merc with a Mouth, huh? Well..."
Let's face it, you don't live in reality. LOL, Reynolds is just Reynolds. There is no Deadpool, it's a fictional character. Just enjoy the movie without being delusional & silly.
@@ash8207 You just completely missed the mark on what the comment is about. What he means by "Reynolds IS Deadpool" is that Reynolds is irreplaceable as Deadpool. Reynolds just doesn't act like Deadpool, he transforms to Deadpool.
I remember an interviews with Ryan where he said that after playing Hannibal King a fan sent him a box of Deadpool comics with a letter saying that he basically played Deadpool in Blade 3. Deadpool is defiantly one of his best movies though I am worried about part 3.
This movie got me so many envious glances in the theater. My wife was laughing her ass off, as one of the few women in the theater. I'm one of the few lucky men who married a woman with a healthy dose of unhealthy humour.
Another fun fact about his creation is: they wrote him with the thought that he'd be a one-off and not have more issues, so they gave zero Fs and that's why he was as absurd as heck. Ironically, that made him popular enough to continue on.
Deadpool had by far the best marketing campaign for any movie ever! It undoubtedly played a huge role in the movie's financial success. Marketing teams need to take lessons from what this film did. The first movie is probably one of my favorite comic book movies and really hope the 3rd one will be even better. One Minty note I was hoping to hear was that the comic book itself described Wade Wilson as "a cross between Ryan Reynolds and a shar-pei"...so Reynolds literally was perfect to play this role. I don't think there has ever been a role in history more perfect for an actor.
Part of that was because Rob Liefeld could only draw incredibly bulked up male characters - without feet. Once other artists got their hands on both Cable and Deadpool, both characters were brought back to somewhat more humanly proportioned characters that could actually see their feet looking down their chest. Seriously, if you want to get a few laughs in, check out his splash page art. It is utterly ridiculous (and he never draws feet, they're always hidden or waaaaay back in perspective so really tiny).
"DEADPOOL" is a masterpiece & I absolutely positively LOVE how much respect Ryan Reynolds has for the source material ! Modern comic book superhero movie writers seriously need to learn that one of the essential keys to success is sticking closely to the source material which would be the comics (in this case) ! Starting with the costume ! Looking at you, Jeremy Renner's HAWKEYE and Hugh Jackman's WOLVERINE ! I'd better see Hugh wear Wolvie's trademark outfit AND iconic mask in "DEADPOOL 3" !
I honestly can’t think of a reason not to absolutely adore Ryan Reynolds! If he isn’t one of the nicest, sweetest, most kindhearted people on the Planet, I don’t know who is!! And apart from the also amazing Nolan North- who lent his voice to The Merc with A Mouth in the 2015 video game- nobody comes close to embodying Deadpool the way Ryan does! The first film was great, so was the second and I am eagerly (but patiently) awaiting the third!
I still remember my first encounter with the Deadpool character. I was reading the Marvel Civil War comics and after just one comic featuring Deadpool, I was an instant fan.
LMBO! I absolutely LOVED this movie in the theater, and the WHAM connection and love story were ACTUALLY what got my girlfriend to give it a chance. After she watched it with me, she admitted that she went to see it in the theater and walked out not long after it started because of the violence. She was glad that I got her to give it another try. Needless to say, her heart was broken by Deadpool 2 (which I hope you make a video for soon), but she still got me both the first Christmas 2 was available 😂 GREAT JOB ON THE VIDEO MINTY!!!!
Another great movie and another great movie review. There were moments that made you wince, but in the best way possible. Such a fun movie to watch because it doesn't take itself too seriously. You get a lot of comments on every movie you do, and there are a lot of movie that has a lot of fans. But if there was a movie that you'd want to watch with strangers... this would be it. Thanks. See ya.
Thanks for doing this. I was well into adulthood when Deadpool appeared in comics, so it was really nice to see the history of the character, and the development of the cinematic Deadpool. I'm so glad that Reynolds got another chance after the dual debacles of Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern. He's lucky that he was able to star in another superhero movie. I'm so glad he did -- truly one of the best characters of all the Marvel movies.
Before seeing Deadpool, the only Ryan Reynolds role I was familiar with was his part in Woman in Gold. To say the least, I was pretty blown away by his performance here. Then, subsequent to watching it, my brother and I were in transit together on a tram bus from Paramus to New York City and heard “Careless Whisper” over the bus’s dashboard. When I remarked about the song’s usage in Deadpool, my brother told me he would forever associate the song with the movie. And, we were both in single digits when Wham! was together and making records.
I fell in love with Ryan because of this movie. Deadpool was one of the funniest movies ever and I LOVE the comparison to a perfectly violent Bugs Bunny cartoon since Bugs is also one of my favorites. I can't wait for #3
Been watching and recommending your work for years. Been watching films from 1983 and I was searching for ‘The Dead Zone’ and ‘Videodrome’ segments, as I always do after an anticipated viewing. I may have missed them, as your catalogue is incredible. Your segments always make me smile, and I genuinely become excited when a new topic appear. Thank you!
My first interaction with Deadpool when I watched Hulk vs Wolverine. He was very funny and crude. Deadpool is my second favorite the first is the Hulk. Third is Wolverine. It is a great watch.
Deadpool will always have a special place with me. It was the first comics series my dad got me collecting and my best friend of 35+ years died a couple years ago. He gave me his copy of New mutants 98 a couple years before he died.
Deadpool is in my top 10 movies. Partially because of how hard so many people that really loved the comic worked to get the movie made and how spot on Ryan is as Mr pool.
Nice video Minty! Love the DP series thus far, 2 was awesome with Juggernauts best depiction to date, not sure if he's in DP3 but did see him climb out of that electrified pool in DP2..Time will tell, patiently await your DP2 review, love the Marvel videos!
Love your channel and content! Would love for a 10 things you didn’t know about Can’t Buy Me Love and Just One Of The Guys. A couple of 80s cult classics.
so here's a question, since Hugh Jackman was mentioned in Deadpool 1 then signed a box of Hero Flakes with Hugh on it as well in Deadpool 2. Do you think even though Hugh is Wolverine in Deadpool 3, his actual name will somehow be used in the film or a reference to Hugh actually playing Wolverine in the films will be mentioned in Deadpool 3? (damn i hope i made sense)
Wolverine will be played straight, while DP will make 4th wall breaking comments about Jackman. Like DP calling Cable Thanos, and making Goonies references, etc...
Deadpool.. who has his face on screen less than any character in any comic book universe.. even Batman gets more "Bruce Wayne" screen time.. hahahahah i love this movie, one of the best of all time... yes.. best.....
Ryan Reynolds is not only a great human, he was born to play that role. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Deadpool that well. I’m not a big comic book guy (though I’ll watch most of the movies), but this is by far my favorite. Unfortunately, my 7 year old really wants to watch it… yeah maybe in like 8 years buddy. Lol
Hell yeah Deadpool. Great movie with action, romance, humor and that’s right Wham aka George Michael songs. Thanks Minty for all you do for the movie fans.
Minty you have done it again my friend Love this movie with a big smile laugh my head the first time I watch it a good marvel movie really like number two as well can't wait for number three
The only problem I have with Deadpool is that the character is literally immortal and nothing can physically hurt him. He doesn't need to cover or avoid bullets and such. He has nothing to fear. It makes his battles uninteresting. Even superman has a weakness.
I had never heard of Deadpool before this movie. I saw an advertisement on TV for it and said "Okay, who is this red guy and why is he so fucking funny? I love this and I want to see more!"
