As a survivor of rectal cancer, I was a healthy vegan prior to diagnosis, I am here to debunk the lack of fiber in the diet argument. There is way more to it than just diet. When you start reading possible causes online, I was in none of the predictable categories. Any changes in stool, I’d highly recommend getting colonoscopy!

Oy. I single anecdote is not meaningful plus nobody claims that eating plants keeps people from getting any diseases. Diet & lifestyle is 85% of it and genetics are 15% of it. Sometimes doing everything perfect, even from birth, you can still lose. Just like how some people can do everything wrong for decades and still win a long life....George Burns smoked cigars and drank hard alcohol for decade after decade after decade and yet was never fat, was getting around quite well into his mid 90's and lived to be 100. You didn't debunk the lack of fiber argument at all. A lack of fiber increase odds of various diseases but isn't a promise that you will or won't get some disease. Use that walnut between your ears!

I have had one colonoscopy and about to have a second. People always complain about the prep… drinking the stuff and cleaning out your colon…while this is no fun, afterwards I felt the best I had in decades! So I am not dreading my next one. My body just felt so light and healthy. So maybe that’s why people do colon cleanses on their own, it’s amazing. Please people have a colonoscopy when you should, it saves lives. God bless all and prayers for a healthy life.
@TheRealJBMcMunn

My approach is to achieve the goal of the prep: get the solids out of the colon. So I drink the prep until the water in the bowl is clear. You'll drink less prep.
@5Gburn
@5Gburn 2 месяца назад
I've heard nightmare stories of people gorging the day or two days before prep. I've designed a specific plan of eating less food (and less fiber) each succesive day starting 5 days before (tomorrow is day 1). The day before up until prep will be broth, ginger ale, etc. Prep is the prep drink mixed in lemonade (the nurse suggested that). I anticipate this to be a very easy prep.

On the subject of fiber. Well advised to have a good mix of soluble and insoluble. I also find Ginger and Coffee speed up evacuation. Lots of water helps. I go through 2 to 3 liters of water a day. People who want to promote a healthy gut biome, look into fermented cabbage and legumes. Good bacteria eats fiber. This is where you get the 60% of bacteria in normal stool. Bad bacteria eats sugar. So cut back on sugar of all kinds.

Absolutely true. I sprinkle two teaspoons of salt on my food per day and ensure I have at least 66% of RDA for potassium and calcium. I source CA with a citrate supplement. Potassium through whole foods. Contrary to doctor's advice salt is not a risk to your heart. And salt is vital for your brain and body chemistry. @@KrikitYTYou have to take a prep laxative and drink a bunch of fluid...which COMPLETELY cleans you out, so the doctor can see every surface inside you during the colonoscopy. The home prep is not fun because you are uncomfortably full of fluid and have to stay near the toilet until it's all consumed...and expelled. Thankfully, you typically only have to have a colonoscopy every 5 years.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone, I ate like this for more than two decades and ended up having very bad conditions for my colon. The only way to correct this was to stop eating plants, and not consuming any fiber, thanks to that now my gastrointestinal problems have improved and I can now defecate like a 4 on the Bristol scale. A family member also in the same situation, consumed adequate fiber and ate his plants for a healthy life, now has colorectal cancer. Eating plants or plant-based foods is not the healthiest for everyone.

I'm dealing with family loss, a new diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy, getting dizzy, stress in my upper shoulders and neck, and exceeding financial stress trying to operate my business, I'm uninsured and have multiple medical issues I want to have checked out but don't have money knowing it's going to ruin me financially question how am how do I reduce my stress? When I exercise I get dizzy. I don't think it's my heart. I lost a tremendous amount of weight over 20 years and I'm in good shape. I've been riding bikes for 20 years plus now I've been in the gym doing weight training for 14 months. Because of the diabetic retinopathy I can't use cannabis I can't drink I have to reduce salt I'm financially stressed and somehow or another I'm supposed to find my zen spot and be cool. I know the stress is causing me problems a lot of my symptoms could be explained by stress. I'm desperate to figure out how to make a difference. I want to get back on my bike and start riding and I want to go hit the gym tomorrow morning but I'm afraid that I'm going to get dizzy and pass out. Oh and did I mention my poop has been dry and pebbly for about a year?

@@4spbiz yeah it's probably stress and metabolic syndrome. I went thru the same thing when my wife made false accusations of violence against me rather than file for divorce. She also alienated my 3 kids from me. I haven't had contact with them in 9 years as a result of her manipulation of my life. I also lost my business. And my vehicles...and the tools of my trade. I'm a California State contractor. I had to walk away from my home, my 3 kids, my 3 dogs, my business, my vehicles and all of my worldly possessions. I had to start from scratch and try to reinvent myself at 45. After 9 years I'm finally in a studio apartment and not on the streets or in motels. It's been rough but I tried to maintain a positive outlook. The only thing that sustained me was my love for cycling. I ride 50 miles everyday without fail. It's kept my body fit and my mind sharp. I grit my teeth thru some really tough times and it's finally begun to pay off. Last year I met my girlfriend Stephanie. She's 25 and beautiful. This year I started a new business. Not nearly as stressful as being a commercial contractor. I'm a commercial drone pilot. I felt like you do many times over the past 9 years. I whined to friends and ALOT on RU-vid comments. Didn't get me anywhere. Grit your teeth and get determined. Use your passion for cycling to rise above all the adversity in your life. Find the things that make you happy and use them to pole vault you over this low point. I lost all 3 of my kids at once. My son was my best friend. My daughter's were my angels. All lost from one day to the next after 19 years as the leader of my pack. Life's hard. Be harder. Good luck and best regards, JimiG

Scaring me a little lol I haven’t been to the doctors for my symptoms which I know I should especially since I’ve had problems for 4 years. Started when I was 14, a weird pressure or irritation/inflammation in my lower left quadrant (only one spot) and so I told my parents because it freaked me out and they just kept telling me “you’re a hypochondriac” “you’ll be fine” so here I am at 18, still have this problem. And the past couple months I’ve had acne just randomly appear (literally never had acne even during puberty) so it’s kinda weird. My poop changes from diarrhea to constipation randomly, then it can switch to super soft, it’s random. Maybe it’s just my diet? Maybe it’s something I should be really concerned about? I definitely need to get checked out. But since my parents didn’t take me when I wanted them to I feel like it’s too late and I’m scared of hearing bad news like it’s cancer

I'm 68, and over a period of ~a year, my bowel became increasingly loose until I was experiencing chronic diarrhea. My GP and gastroenterologist did every blood panel & gut panel, and found no problem. I finally started taking an over-the-counter probiotic capsule every day, and my bowel started to rapidly recover. I also reduced my carb and sugar consumption, following an intermittent fasting regimen, and eating homemade, fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kefir. I probably still need to slightly increase my fiber consumption. I'm finding however that I need to take a probiotic capsule once weekly to keep me on track. I'm not taking any antibiotics, so it's not clear to me why my gut has trouble holding onto the renewed biome. Any thoughts on this?

The Gastrointerologist never had this discussion with me but yes, I eat tons of fruit and veg and whole grain. I originally thought it was because of the coffee I drink in the morning. Because if I don't drink coffee, I'm a 4.5 or even 4.

I do too, and I miss the healthy solid poops of my youth. In fact, on the very rare occasions when I do, I always feel better. I'm not sure that 5 doesn't mean your gut is a bit irritated. Probiotics are supposed to help, but they need to be taken for months... and I keep forgetting.

Plant based diet makes you look frail and skinny in the face. I did it for 4 years all organic and whole foods. Reintroduced locally raised organic animal products and my vitality went waaaay up. There is a reason the propaganda is trying to demonize animal foods. They are the most nutrient dense. I'm sure bug protein will be a good solution. NOT.

Fo real. I was in a rush and missed my morning 💩 and thhen felt like 💩 by early afternoon, tired, wanted to just go home. Ate a small lunch (apple and a small wrap) and drank a bunch of water then had an enormous 4- probably close to a foot long. Felt likeca million bucks, energized and motivated.

Most people don't want to talk about poo and won't. I notice everyone becomes smart in their answers if you mention their poo, but what they don't realise is that it might matter later, more than they think. Sensitive to a few food items, I'm really aware of the importance of oral and gut biome as it links to physical, mental and emotional health. A Normal healthy lifestyle, you are unlikely to experience problems, but it pays to know about this.

The problem with doctors and others adding on "if you have a normal, healthy lifestyle, you will be less likely to have these problems" is that docs then look at "the fat tub of lard" in front of them like it's all the person's fault. I used to dance 6 hours a day. At 25, I began to be poisoned by Carbon Monoxide (CO). Worse, after ABI brain injury from hypoxia, I lived in crappy substandard housing where twice more, tests demonstrated that I was exposed to extreme amounts of toxins. The last place? A woman died of unknown illness after a decade of getting sicker. I didn't know about her until after I had the place tested because I was getting sick. CO, 2 sources of Methane (one from gas lines, the other from a cesspool under the house where water collected & plants & unfortunate small animals drowned & altogether created sewer gas with high levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2),, Hydrogen Sulfide (sp?), methane, & 2 types of black mold. This mold can be in you & not leave, also affecting your body's microbiome and ability to be the energetic, motivated you that you used to be. You get so fat you can't dance & life spirals. In the end, docs blame you because all they see is this fat pig in front of them, So they say "eat less move more" as if you can breathe. 🙄

@@AG-yj1jv Sorry to hear this. Doctors who do their job well (provided of course you yourself are listening and cooperate); at least give you a sense of process. That they've listened and are listening using logic and research, which will take time and many appointments (after all it's your body, they've no right to second guess your suspicions). At least follow through. Even if it was completely your own doing, the obesity (I'm not saying it is or isn't), surely they should get over their prejudices, you've come for help! Well it's easy to talk, but ultimately if the doctor isn't responding, write in a 'Complaint'. This will get them moving and copy in the relevant authority. Work out how you might go forward based on your symptoms, knowledge and distress. Don't let them get you down! Of course you could find another way to deal with this, but why should you? They have your records just ask nicely for a little respect. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sympathises (from London) ❤️
