10 Tips for Better Gun Effects 

When Ryan says "safety first" *listen to him*. Don't take the usage of even plastic fake guns on set lightly. Ok *Story time*: I was shooting an action scene for a short (which I will soon post) in Italy and it involved a massive shootout between two sports cars. Everything went well and we were almost done wrapping up. That is when *3 police cars* rushed onto the scene and got out with guns drawn. Being in the exhilarating phase of having just completed a successful sequence I was mindlessly picking things up like tripods, light stands ect, *without thinking much of what I was picking up*. When the cops arrived I was convinced I was holding two light stands when in fact I was holding an *Ak-47 and another high power rifle (fake of course but no red tip!)*. I started *walking towards them* with them in my hand until I saw them aim for me. I then realized that I was not holding light stands at all. I dropped everything immediately and luckily wasn't killed (If this were to have taken place in the US I would not be here typing this comment right now). I actually have behind the scenes footage of this all happening and will post it along with the short once its completed. But the point is: LISTEN TO RYAN WHEN HE SAYS SAFETY FIRST.

I can't stress enough about the safety portion of this video. Thank you for being so clear about it. I've heard many horror stories about students shooting a short on college campus and no one was informed. Police showed up when a few calls were placed and needless to say, the situation could have ended much worse than it did. Stay safe!

Thanks for the episode. I would add 10th tip - adding flash on the character's face/body and closest environment elements.

Hey Ryan, What are some tips for getting used to new editing software. I'm switching from Sony Vegas to Hitfilm and I'm having a lot of trouble getting used to the new software.

A great way to do shells is flick an empty cartridge up into the air in front of a black screen it's worked for me.

RYAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You MUST find a grocery store that will let you film inside after hours and do a gun shoot out with random items found in the store! The peanut butter gun was freaking hilarious!

Question about the LUT's. It says it works with After Effects, and i use Magic Bullet Looks as a plugin for sony vegas. It should work just fine, right?
