Been installing laminate for over 30 years...little tip to make life easier. Use a door jam saw or a good multi tool with a good blade and under cut the door jams instead. Board slide right underneath

Dude explained NOT to undercut because if next person wants to remove floor and tile below it to install new tile the door and casings will then need to be replaced because they will look like high water pants

I am getting conflicting information about cork vs rubber backed Vinyl Core flooring needing an underlayment. I will be installing a 6.5mm rigid core plank with Cork back over 800 sq ft of tile and I would like to avoid putting underlayment if it is not necessary. I see you installed a cork back right over tile with grout lines thicker than 1/4 wide. Your comments in the video around the core backing answered my question around needing to float a filler to avoid translation of grout lines over time. I would not expect grout lines to translate through a thicker core floor as they would a flimsy vinyl product. This is the answer I have been searching for. I find your videos very informative and am grateful for the time you take in explaining everything. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for making these videos. I always wanted to know how to do this kind of carpentry / home renovation stuff, but didn't have anyone to teach me exactly what to do. I envied people who learned this kind of stuff from their dads. I even went to carpentry school, but never got to learn any of these types of details. Watching your videos gives me such a great sense of relief, I imagine this is just like what I'd have learned from my Dad if he was a carpenter. Your videos are excellent, as a serious DIYer, can recommend your content to any DIYer as some of the best out here. As a "Safety Second" guy, suggest lowing the saw blade height to just above the thickness of the material you are cutting. This could be the difference between a laceration and amputation.

I did this using Karndean looselay flooring over ceramic tiles in a bathroom and linoleum in a laundry room. Few years later and the LVP is still perfect.

Use artist tracing paper to trace the cutout. Then tape on plank and cut. Goid luck!

Measure length and width in a couple places each way ..or simply make sure the first piece of plank is square to room and the rest will follow suit.

Jeff, you're amazing! Helped me a lot when I just got here in USA. As a professional installer now, I recommend the people get a mixed pattern to lay the lines (different from that you used on the video - with a lot of "H" in the lines). And yes, doorjambs are the worst part for an installer, but you could install the piece easily between these doorjambs using your tapping block and a pull bar. It's impossible just if the piece needs to cover the 2 areas with a "C" shape. Not agreed with all information in the video but you're excellent as always. Thanks for teaching us.

Great video,love your Content,I usually start flush with the door opening when possible,that makes it a little easier having to slide the vinyl under one side ,but I saw where your grout line made that not possible on the first piece ,GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

Love this video!! I put lifeproof vinyl over existing hideous green tile 4 years ago instead of re-tiling and it saved me soooo much time and money and it still looks incredible! LVP has been a lifesaver 🙌 ( and so much easier to clean then tile as well 💯)

I've seen you did the vinyl over tile. You mentioned that you didn't have to leave a vinyl gap for it to expanded later, am I right? Vinyl won't expands overtime? I want to do it to my mom's house before we can put it back on the market for sale for a better value. She moves in with my wife and I, with my 2 lil ones. I don't want She lives by herself after my dad passed away a couple of years ago. Always and thank you for your educational flooring and how to install correctly and perfectly (only hope lol).

you should also go through all of the boxes you purchased and sort the different grain patterns into different piles. Try not to put the same grain patterns next to each other.

I am a sales person for flooring, vinyl plank, laminate, carpet, tile, etc. I have installed vinyl plank and laminate before. Also, I actually build displays for the flooring I sell. I will say this, you pay for what you get. The more expensive the plank, the easier it is to put together and the better quality you are going to get. For example, his flooring tells you how many feet you can go before you need a transition, all flooring is different. Make sure you read the box on any flooring you are thinking of getting, that is information right from the manufacturer and it usually tells you all about the flooring. For example, length before a transition, whether it's three-seasons ready, maximum tempatures, etc. Do your research on any flooring and the methods of installation before you buy, it will save you lots of time and money. I have ran into many people that are mad and they say vinyl plank is junk but when I ask what happened, it usually is because they got into a hurry and didn't properly install the flooring. And if you aren't sure you are doing something right, ask questions, watch videos like this, Jeff is pretty good at what he does and has quite a few great tips on every project you are thinking of doing.

Very simple solution to the grout lines showing through. They make a product that takes a very short time to fill in the grout lines that dries quickly. Never have to worry about the grout lines again.

Home Depot’s Lifeproof works like a charm over tile. Renovated a basement that was mostly vinyl tiles except for a laundry room which had porcelain tile. Didn’t want to try to bust it up. Lifeproof is very stable over the porcelain and contributes a lot, for a relatively modest price, to the overall look. My one complaint with Lifeproof is that the tongues are not the strongest and will break off if you’re not careful or try to reposition it. I put Pergo on the first floor which has a more refined look than Lifeproof at a similar price. But no way was I going to put Pergo in the basement because of its . They each have their quirks.

Definitely feeling brave enough to try this after watching your video. Only issue I'll face is how to transition the plank flooring to a stairwell. Would love recommendations or another tutorial!
