This orange stuf is one of the loctite sealants. They usually smell horrible and are hard to remove from sealed surface

When i first saw the debris i was thinking a piece of the case broke away from somewhere and got got mulched up. Possible a seal that got shredded. Being as it was squishy it probably is excess silicone. Great video. looking forward to the next one.

Glad I watched this tear down. I learned about how to check the levels and wear on shift forks. It looked to me that grease was put on the end of the bolts as a precaution. way too much obviously. Great video Charles.

Thanks a ton! I learned about shift forks myself, which was awesome. I’ve always wondered... I totally blew it and was accidentally filming in 60 frames per second, which loaded up the memory card. We were getting into the transmission inspection so I could get a little more info on why gears are bad- or not bad and the card couldn’t handle any more data! Oh well, the whole thing including the shafts will be new now anyways! 💰💰💰💰

Hardest part is the trans removal and installation for sure. More about the installation since you have to hold everything together. I bought the factory wrench 3d printed tool after doing my trans without one. It’s a huge pain in the butt. Everything else is pretty easy.

Wow those vapor blasted parts look so good! I think that shit was just a mixture of old clutch, silicone, and maybe a little from wear on trans/clutch basket. My Polaris uses a similar power valve setup. It’s really a nice simple setup. You just need to make the air passages stay cleaned.

How's the oil delivery system though on the yz250 I'm hearing a bunch of stuff lately saying that yz250 doesn't provide enough oil for the transmission when you run the BRC 500 kit cuz it doesn't have a high enough oil level and something to do with where the oil goes in to the transmission side of the cases it's too high or something like is there a special mod that has to be done or no or is that just sneak oil?

It’s actually the opposite due to a lower quantity of oil in the original Yamaha transmission. Although obviously there aren’t any major issues with it after all these years. I actually shared a video on Facebook a couple days ago where Riley from BRC is actually showing the difference on both, and the BRC holds about double the amount of oil. check it out if you have some time!

Yes, we do! That was a good tip. I knew the seal needed to be at the edge, but I never actually knew why. I had fun learning some stuff with Tony. Your question about oil, I added it to my notes, and I will ask Tony in part two where we assemble the 500. I have an additional addendum to your question as well that I’d like to know the answer to….

silicone was defiantly over used bike got used for sure but I'm sure it was still fun I remember when was young ya did anything ya could to ride and couldn't always do it the right way. I had a old yz125 and the case was wore where the main crank bearings went so crank would walk so I would tear down peen around the bearings to make it tight again and ride till I had to do it all over again.

Yellow shit looks like super tack gasket glue, supposed to put a couple drops to hold your gaskets in place while installing parts. Permatex brand, hard to find at local auto stores.

Want every dumb thing you can do during an engine strip down to happen ..... get a mate to help who chats all the time and is filming everything l feel your pain Tony,, but this is a fairly typical home rebuilt motor the world over. It's nice to see the worldwide intrest in these kits we are probably in the last 10 years of ice mainstream racing so we may as well go out with a 500 two stroke bang 🙂🙂 my first race bike was an 82 RM465 back in the 80's. BOLT they really are the only way to go I've been using their workshop kits for years money very well spent.

OMG, seen messes like that before. People don't know anything about the engine but they crack it open (without ever looking at the manual) and do all kinds of stupid shit. Many times it's not their ignorance, but their arrogance that causes this . If they'd just slow down and look at the manual , and learn before doing, they'd be much better off.
