I thought what he meant with the title is that he literally opened the lock just by looking at it. I mean, at this point if he said he did decode a lock without even touching it I won't even be surprised.
If you think about it, for a blind person it would be *easier* to pick it than to open it normally. You can feel the notches in the code wheels far better than the numbers.
“Sometimes a product is so bad that my words are insufficient to convey the gravity of the problem”. That is probably the most eloquent way I’ve ever heard someone say “this product is literal garbage”.
Well he is a lawyer and he knows how to not slander or libel the manufacturer of this miserable pos lock box that was obviously designed by a total dweeb of a human being with a Parker Brother's diploma in engineering. See...how easy it is to get sued? Unlike LPL he won't be getting sued because he knows how to criticize based on fact as opposed to me who has no idea what the he'll I'm talking about. 😫 Hey LPL how much is your retainer now that I probably need a lawyer after this post? 😁😎😇 Like your videos a lot!#
"This is the lockpicking lawyer and what I have for you today is a lock that will open itself out of pure guilt. We do this by brutally shaming the company who made it in a calm and concise manner until the lock comes to the realization that it is in fact not a lock at all and its entire existence is a lie."
When you plonked the shim onto the lockbox it reminded me, a couple of weeks ago our workplace bought a property and the previous owner had left a Master lockbox on the outside of the property and not given us the combination. My colleague mentioned this to me, and since I'd seen a lot of your videos I had a pretty fair idea that this box could be decoded fairly easily. Using a shim fashioned out of an empty soft drink can, I managed to decode the lockbox in just a few minutes and discovered that the previous owner had left keys in the lockbox - that they could potentially have used to gain entry again. Your videos gave me the confidence to try it. Thanks, LPL.
This isn't a new thing, I never understood why those notches are on the side that face the user. I used to do this, probably 10-15 years ago, doesn't seem like anyone has learned.
@@jimdavis1566 Blind Homeowner: i'm gonna shoot you, you bastard! Robber: Nooooooo! Blind Homeowner: *Shoots them* Thanks for telling me where you are, I can't actually see you!
"If you do have any comments or questions. Put them below" No thanks. I'm good knowing that this lock is too emotionally scarred that it opens itself when people look at it wrong.
Dear LPL, I would like to throw an idea out on to the table: a March madness lock bracket. Pit the most well known or best lock makers’ locks against one another to see who’s lock is the superior. Cheerio!
"Inside the room, a lone chest is sitting" LPL: I want to lock pick it. "Please roll-" LPL: No need, let see here... nothing on one, two is binding.... ".......But the lock is magical." LPL: *opens the chest* "I GIVE UP"
BBEG: Hah! To defeat me, you need to find my phylactery. And it's hidden with a very good lock LPL: *Proceeds to unlock in seconds* BBEG: *sweats nervously* And so the LPL party successfully saved another kingdom along with his Warrior Smith named BosnianBill and their party healer Mrs. LPL
LPL: The safe is only useful if you're trying to keep blind people out. ADIROffice: Yay, LPL recommended our lock for something!!! LPL: Actually, a blind person could easily pick it.. MasterLock: We just acquired ADIROffice.
When I was younger, I used this method to get very cheap luggage from the thrift store. Often time they would sell luggage that was locked and an unknown combo for a discount. Samsonite locks can be decoded the same method and with a similar lack of tolerance.
@@renakunisaki One had a smaller bag nested inside, the other was empty. Mostly they were just discounted b/c they were locked and not usable for most people.
20 seconds of picking, 20 seconds of explanation, 5 seconds of intro and thank you, 1 minute and 43 seconds of berating the manufacturer. Someone make this poor man a challenge lock!
We went from positive equipment, as minor as it is to no equipment, now all left is negative, all wait the video where lpl picks handcuffs while having them on his hands
Next he will unlock his front door with the phrase I'm the lock picking Lawyer. Dispite it having no voice recognition capability and being extremely difficult to pick open by normal standards
This method helped me gain access to a lock box I inherited from my grandfather when he passed away a few years ago. I really didn't want to have to damage the lock box by prying it open. Thank you so much.
I have, after watching a few of your videos on locks I have, replaced a good majority of my locks with higher security locks with better tolerances and bitting. I have a masterlock TSA suitcase lock that I can decode now in 10 seconds. Thank you for what you do.
Oh hey, I recognize that mechanism, or at least the wheels. They were used on a locking pencil bag I have. Same problem of the gates showing through the side.
Thanks for your videos, this helped me to open my supervisors lock box she had lost the combo to. Different box but the same mechanism which I assume is being mass produced for $0.001 a unit in China.
Back in school in 1982, some kids had schoolbags locked with the exact same three wheel combination lock. We used to "have fun" by decoding the locks and changing the combination when they werent looking. Broke the day up a bit I guess.
@@thomasmathew13 It's okay you did not understand the joke, sometimes the complexities of jokes go over the heads of people who would not draw the conclusion Clark Kent (LPL) and Superman are the same person. If I was to explain the joke to you it wouldn't be funny anymore. I'll thumbs up your next comment for you 👍
No shit Kent and Superman are the same person... That still has nothing to do with needing x-ray vision to see something that's clear as day right in front of you... Your "joke" makes no sense.
I recently found the very same combo lock mechanism on a ‘secure medicine chest’ bought from Amazon. A relative messed up setting the combination somehow, so I said “pass it over here” and I was able to get into it within a minute or two. Just apply a little bit of tension to the knob and discover which wheel feels different as you spin them. That’s the first one to change. Rotate through all ten positions and you can feel the “flat spot” when you rotate past the correct number. Rinse and repeat with the other two wheels. Honestly, you could do this blindfold: it’s actually easier by feel than when looking. It might keep a young child or a person with dementia from swallowing a fistful of tablets, but secure, these aren’t!
These videos are very helpful for Public Safety so keep up the good work. We need to know if we want to keep something as dangerous as a firearm safe that a lock box is at least up to a certain standard and that one is terrible so it should teach people not to listen to what Amazon recommends all the time.
Watched this and then went on amazon to look, you need to review this ON Amazon. No one seems to have noticed this and they are giving it good reviews!
I have that under an Amazon brand name. I just store dormatory contraband in it so I'm not worried about compromising anybody's safety. I knew it was probably gonna be a real bad lock but I was fine with that.
Someone left a book safe with the same lock mechanism at the restaurant I work at. I couldn't see the notches to I felt for them with a soda lid and got it open. Nothing was inside but thanks for the video!
I have a box by this company with the same mechanism... but it's for keys! It's in a locked office, so it's more for organization than security. Good thing!
I don't know if I'm actually glad I watch your videos, makes it so hard to try and find a good lock/lock box/bike lock/etc...actually, it makes it perfect to find the "better" one.
Sadly, that exact lock work is used in many combo-lock boxes for cash and gun storage. The lock work housing is made of cheap plastic. This gun box is sold under many brand names and meant to safeguard against theft, but you can easily pry the lock out with a screwdriver or a knife (common burglar tools) or smash it loose with a hammer.
These are sold under other names as well. Looked at mine and it is identical! Bought from a gun store at least 5 years ago and it was a name brand of some sort.
Who are the 50 people who gavve a 'thumbs down'? Probably Lock companies? Thanks LPL for all your amazing videos... If you had told me a few months ago I'd watch 100s of lockpicking vids, I might not have believed you, but here I am. You are a bit of an addiction... keep 'em coming.
I think that you should also take a look at the Blackspor BB-PD202 4-Digit Long Shackle Combination Padlock. Its so bad that you can put a shim alongside any wheel, push it down and it rolls to the correct number. You can also insert a little further after the 3rd wheel, push down and it just clicks open without picking. I use them to lock my refuse, i wouldn't trust them for anything but stopping random people filling my bins!
One of my friends in a uni had his valuables "locked" in a similar safe while living in our dorm. The problem wasn't the lock itself, the problem was that he never scrambled those numbers after closing the lid. He basically had a box with a latch.
You and Bosnianbill need to do a favorite locks video in whatever categories you like. Gun locks like this, padlocks, safes, door cylinders, and so on. Just the locks you guys think are the best ones for people to get. It would be pretty useful info.
