Some old bloke once said "The only constant in life is change" (Heraclitus in fact). Change affects us all and we each deal with change differently. This only constant in life, the only thing we can be sure will happen. To expect change has brought me hope during challenging or unexpected life events. This same thought has also brought fear in situations where the last thing I wanted was change. I’ve come to realize it’s not the circumstances or the changes that dictate how my life will go, but rather how I handle those changes and disruptions. No matter the change we experience, how we embrace that change will forever impact how we are able to live with the change. You're a talented person, who without knowing anything about your personal life, would expect a loving and loved important member of your family. So take sometime to feel sorry for yourself; then workout how you're going to adapt like you have before; utilize these coming weeks and be ready to hit the ground running when we get through it.
One man shop here in the U.S. barely making rent as it was before this whole virus scare. I feel for you on being unsure of the fate of your business. I've gotta tell you, of all of the wonderful woodworking content on youtube, you're by far my favorite - there are plenty of other channels with flashy gear and tricky camera work, sponsored content and ads, clickbait title galore, and over the top production - the list goes on. Something about your simple voice over videos, your candor and work ethic just does it for me though. No more and no less than I need. This channel played a big part in my decision to take the plunge myself and give woodworking as a career a go, full time. This community like many others has the capacity to rally and to take care of its own. If it gets to the point of needing help, I'm hoping you'll reach out before throwing in the towel. If you're anything like me, it might take a lot to swallow your pride and ask for help but I've personally been surprised/humbled time and time again by people's willingness to lend a hand each time that I've mustered to courage to ask. Best of luck to you man - I know that I'm not alone when I say that I'm sincerely pulling for you and look forward to seeing your work for years to come. Cheers.
Great video Joey. we will all come out of this with so much learning. Keep posting as you are our NZ contingent on the world stage of furniture making youtube Vids
keep your hopes up joey! You make the most stunning furniture peaces out there! These times aren't easy but the true craftsmen in you will surly survive!
I've kept busy in my shop the last few weeks. This is a good time to do maintenance on your tools. Keep a positive attitude and stay the course. Some great work is coming out of your shop Joey!
That is Matthias' pantorouter you've got. Awesome. I hope everything works out for you. Surely with your reputation you'll be able to rebuild the business. These chairs are going to be quality. All the best mate
Your work is always inspiring and I love watching you figure things out. Good luck to you and yours, Joey! I’m with you on the anxiety of not knowing if my job/business will still exist, but I just have a feeling it’s going to work out in the end. Thanks for sharing your work - this video was certainly the brightest spot of my day today.
The skill and professional level that your work displays will ensure upon recovery you will rebuild quickly - this is uncharted waters - but I honestly believe you will be good to go once again ,,in the meantime thank you for sharing

Another great project video Joey! Looking forward to following along. I live in northern Washington State and have been following along with the news. Looks pretty serious and we are staying home mostly. Only out for groceries as needed. Praying for your families health and the strength of your outstanding business.
Excellent video Joey, love the design and how you show all the Steps and problem solving. I wish you al the best , you are a great craftsman and i love all your videos. Stay safe.
Great problem solving on the chair, as always your work inspires us all. Pray all will be well for you with all if this craziness happening in the world. God Bless.
Hi Joey, I know these are crazy times, but they also challenge us to rethink life. I told myself to see this quarantine as a sort of pause Button. Now we got time to think and feel what is right and how we should continue once play is pressed. Your videos bring so much joy and relaxation to my life. It's like I want to pause my life, to watch them. They are some sort of anti stress placebos. I assume you are earning most of your money from "real projects" getting paid by customers. Having a second foot on youtube, sending out joy and positivity to 200k people may become a source of life income. A patreon channel might be a source, or maybe auction your finished (non customer) projects. Sending out such beautiful waves of energy to a huge amount of people will be rewarded. I think now more then ever, it will become our consumers duty to support our true heros that help us through this time. I wish you all the best from my heart, stay healthy and in business.
Hang in there! My wife and I are in the same boat with our small bakery here in the states. Love your work. Chairs have been on the top of my list for a long time. Guess now is the time to try
Thanks for the video. Great looking chair. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Good luck with the lock down, I hope it all works out in the end.
I hope all works out for your shop, a rough road coming but there is great freedom on the other side once we handle the adversity, and you know a bit off rough roads. Cheers.
You make some amazing furniture! I hope you and your family stay safe and that you will still be able to keep your business during and after this challenging time.
All the best mate. Keep the faith. This client will pay for the furniture as he will know its worth it and a work of art.Tough time out there stay safe.
Wishing you the best in these trying times Joey. I'm keeping good thoughts that everything will work out for you perfectly and you can keep doing what you love. We are officially starting our 30 days of quarantine here in Hawaii tomorrow. Stay safe and healthy and positive. Aloha to you.
“There are more things likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more in our imagination than in reality.” ~Seneca Chin up and keep on doing the great work you're known for, folks don't forget good craftsmanship. They'll be back.
All the best Joey. I'm sure things will end up on the right side. Yes hard times but once it is over, people will still want the fine, quality stuff that you produce. Not quite as strict here in Oz at the moment but It might come to it.
Hang in there Joey. You are a very talented fine wood worker. Four weeks will hopefully zoom by and you will be back into it... All the best from Warkworth, NZ.
I certainly don't know what the future holds for any of us, but having watched many of your videos, I would say there will always be opportunities for someone like yourself who produces quality workmanship. Good Luck.
Hey Joey, I've been following you for quite a while now. I have always enjoyed, learned, been inspired and applied what I have learned from your videos. I empathize with the dilemma you're facing. I am facing the very same problem. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for all of your videos, insight, inspiration and your craftsmanship. Be safe in these strange days we're in. I'll see you on the other side.
Hey Joey ... keep safe .... hope your business comes through and you do even better in the new world economy. Love the show and your honest and informative approach ... Regards from over the ditch
Hope you'll pull through, Joey. You're too good to go away over a thing like this. Our orders have dried up as well, couple of things to finish still, but we are not expecting the spring rush we usually get. But luckily we have very few business expenses, our workshop is on private land and we have only ever upgraded equipment out of pocket.
That's pretty good for you guys, I own my workshop and land but it is on it's own commercial site, so there are quite a bit of costs in keeping the lights on, so to speak
Hi Joey i got a small Joinery as well here in South Africa we are going into lockdown tomorrow night, i feel with you i don't know either if i am going to able to during our 3 weeks (if it stays by that nobody knows). But as some other people said already said your quality of your work should get you going quite quick again. ALL THE BEST, WE SEE EACH OTHER AT THE OTHER END LAUGHING.
Hi Joey, As a kiwi who runs his own small engineering business we indeed are in difficult times. All my contracts are gone, staff laid off and so many other uncertainties but I have asked for help from my bank, clients. Government agencies and friends we will get through this. Don’t be afraid to ask for help....... I get a lot of inspiration, info and enjoyment out of your videos.. Kia Kaha. Stanley
Cheers, agreed. It's a very difficult decision for me to take a loan at this point with such short terms and no idea on what work flow looks like in a month or 2, such a crazy thing to be forced into pondering.
Joey I hope you make it through. I own a small contracting company in the USA and it is getting sketchy. Either way you are very talented and will come out on top some how.
Joey, Montreal starts 3 weeks of lockdown tonight. I finished a large job yesterday working through the weekend so the client can move in. I too worry about future work as the economy contracts. My work is mostly ar client's homes. What can you do but persevere. Stay safe. Be aware of what you touch outside your home. Wash hands compulsively especially when returning from getting groceries. I imagine you have a supply of gloves and masks. Use them when you are out. Take care, Ed
Joey, If you haven’t created a presence on Patreon, please consider doing so. I’m certain there are others like myself that would gladly support your work and video creation. Kind regards, Mike
Hey mate, just wanted to say that if anyone deserves to stay open, it’s you. I really hope you can take this and the other comments here as proof that you are so very loved. You and the other RU-vidrs continuing to make such excellent content are helping the world stay sane right now. So thank you.
We all are hopeful that you survive this terrible event. If you rent your space hopefully your landlord will give you some breathing room on your rent. You build heirloom pieces and bring all of us great joy and inspiration
We all keep saying hang in there, we will all make it through this together. It is hard to believe this when you are in a lock down condition and alone or looking at the loss of you lively hood. All i can say is, be strong, keep moving forward, remember to love those closest in your life and who love you. I hope you come out of this on top. I will continue to watch if you are able to keep posting. Stay safe, god be with you.
Hoping everything works out Joey, the UK government are actually being really supportive to business owners, so hopefully NZ will be too. It’s still so early at this stage, think all the governments are trying to work it all out. Stay strong brother
I see and feel ya pain Joey it certainly is strange times ahead. All the very best to you and yours, keep a smile on ya daily n if ya feel like a laugh pop over to my channel I got a few build vids there 👍😊
Hope it all works Joey. Shits almost dried up in Chicago. We've been finishing up all our upcoming jobs. At this rate we'll run out of work in like two weeks tops
Yes, disposable income for most people is now a thing of the past. I think this reality will last a while yet. While we have the skills to make anything I'm not sure people will have the cash to buy it.
I feel you Joey, I have a joinery workshop here in Ireland and things are much the same, one job to finish off and that’s it.......it’s shit man, keep the videos coming, take care man👍🇮🇪
Chin up, it's hard here in NZ at the mo but things will get better, hopefully the govt/banks etc will help us self employed types out, remember the one thing they cannot take away form us are our skills, and you have those in spades.
Painful to see you in this state and first hope for good health for you and yours! You are talented and have a good following, so I hope and believe your business will sustain. Like most of us in this racket, we will lose some short-term commissions and maybe/LIKELY get 'stuck' for some of them/material, time, etc. But it just means we really do make about $1/hr sometimes... Hang in there! Best, Mike
This going be another incredible project Joey. I truly hope you can manage a way to push through, I have always been excited to see you post, so now more than ever I appreciate it. Take care brother, stay safe.
