Still making my way through the older videos. Tons of great stuff! I don’t know what it is about a 5 gallon bucket full of wheel weights, but I feel like I’ve won the lottery every time I’ve scored one. My best friend owns a salvage yard, so I have a steady supply these days. Feel pretty lucky.
I went to Tire Discounters yesterday and got a 5 gallon bucket completly full of tire weights. There was only about 2 lbs of lead in it. The rest was iron, zink, and aluminum. A complete waste of my time and effort. I took the whole bucket back to them. The boss told me I could have said that...The govt doesn't want us using or having lead.
For anyone thinking about reloading. A well run tire shop will fill a bucket like that inside of a month. Commercial chains can do it in a few days. They have to pay to recycle them.
My local guys want $60 a bucket. I told them they could keep it. I get some at the shop I work at but we are mostly auto and truck repair with the occasional tire sales. It's like once they know you want it, they gotta try to hook you. Good score there!
I stack 16 number ones in layers of 4 with fiber wads and an over powder gas seal. 16 number ones is 1-1/2 oz over 28gr longshot. Number one stacks perfectly with no shot cup.
I bought a paper cutter, cut my own mylar wraps and little pieces of paper to seal in buffer. Seems that the Mylar wraps works much better than many of the wads. You can make the plastic wraps out of just about anything, 2 liter bottles work well, etc.
I'm going to throw together a few of these for this weekend. I may make it a 3" by adding a couple more pellets - Possibly try a couple of each. I need one of the taper gizmos.
I followed much of the advise in this video but with a few changes. I went with a roll crimp to leave an extension for easier tapering. Ended up with a 2 3/4 shell that was too long such that I could not get 5 shells into a magazine tube intended for the same. Had to cut 1/8 inch off the MG42 wad and another 1/8 inch off the Cheddite hull. Everything is fine now. The 28 grain Longshot load works well. The recoil from the #1 buck is less than from #00 buckshot. That was another primary goal of mine.
That's an experiment I've been interested in for a while, comparing the same wad(TPS, MG42, ect...) in 2 petal and 4 petal to see which one tends to group tighter. Kinda like how stacking by 2's is usually tighter than other stacks.
@@theshotgunscientists yeah, I agree, just not sure if a 2 pedal cut or 4 pedal cut in the same wad(TPS for this example) would give tighter patterns. I just haven't gotten around to testing it.

I do all my duck decoy weights with old tire weights . They have to pay to dispose of it . They always give it away to whoever wants it . I’m having a hard time finding primers anywhere locally and just can’t stomach paying a 45$ hazmat ship fee for 1000 primers .
Hey, I was wondering could you put a link in comments for the temper die I can’t seem to find one on eBay or if you would know anyone else supplying them?
