As an old woman I found everything in this video to be accurate to real life. One of the quickest way to become unhappy is looking for approval form others, it gives them a lot of control over your life.

Chasing money, materialism, listening to others, not pursing your dreams, always following the crowd, obeying authority when you know it's wrong, close mindedness, scared of reality, not wanting to know the truth, living a life of illusions, afraid to leave your comfort zone to try new, something different, you know is much better, I could keep going, but won't, is a sure way to be unhappy, especially in your old age. When you look back, and think about what you could have done, could have been, having the opportunity to, and choosing not too!

A spiteful colleague told me that I don't socialise with staff, I only have a few friends. I replied that I put quality above quantity, respect and value others as they are therefore have many acquaintances. That has shut her up for the rest of the time we have been forced to work together. Not everyone at work or even neighbours will "get you", it's like finding a diamond in the rough when you genuinely connect with someone so I value the few who I am blessed to have in my life. I have also promised myself that I will not lick the boot that kicks me - I am uniquely made and my life is too precious to be wasted on snakes in a pit!

I'd add #11: Life is about learning and growing and, after a certain age, growing becomes a choice - one that has to be made again and again. The most unhappy people who you will meet are stuck in a particular mindset based on what they thought they knew at the time. These people chose not to grow or fail to understand that they must chose to do it which is the same thing. It takes work and can be uncomfortable since you're frequently pushing yourself outside of your own comfort zone. But over time, it will become habit and the process of learning becomes easier. The more you learn and know, the more able you will be to chose the direction of your life, thinking about and reasoning your way through difficulties rather than just emotionally reacting to events that you don't really understand.

I’ll add one of the most truthful, yet one of the most painful; Not everyone will “find love”. Dating, courtship, sex, marriage has ZERO obligations to hand to you. It’s far better to have the attitude of “Treat others the way you want to be treated” and hope for the best. But you cannot pick and choose and give the best treatment to the “hot and desirable” sets…you have to be consistent with everyone out there, North Pole to South Pole. Love is very, very much a lottery, and owes no one anything. Wise up.

LaRae Godwin I think it's exactly what BTC told about money affecting your happiness indirectly. You see money directly do not replace happiness. For example, your lost your child because of someone's fault, but were awarded few millions as compensation. Will these money make you happy? Or your husband/wife cheated on you, so you got divorced and got chunk of money as compensation. Will it make you happy?
@zenwhitenoise7920

@@laraegodwin6008 I couldn't disagree more...You place importance on superficial relationships which leads to people using you for your money. People who use money for the purpose of swaying the minds of friends and family is also on a power trip. Also, I never said people don't need money to be happy. We do need money to be happy but it's what you do with it and how it changes you that will show your character. For example: buy a $30k new car that won't break down vs buying a Ferrari. You implied that you want to 'buy love', there's an old saying "can't buy me love" be it a lover or family. Your living an illusion of love if you think people around you is enough by itself, ask why are they around me? The guy at a club throwing a massive party and buying everyone drinks is more lonely standing on that dance floor with 100 people around him than 2 people laying on the ground in a park enjoying the simple things in life that are free. The loudest ones in a room are the weakest ones in the room, remember that. I tell you what is reality, as you mention "DIVORCE". That is exactly the path a millionaire will go down if he/she builds relationships off their money and there is an old saying "a fool and their money are soon departed" All do respect, I think your reality needs check. I understand this world pretty well and psychology. Weak minded people try to impress the world, strong minds understand that the best things in life are free, keep hush about it and still live frugal when they have it.

As a man who has seen more decades go by than I care to say, these are all spot on. I have lived a happy life; it wasn’t all gumdrops and roses but happy overall. It took until I was around 25 before I gave up on what other people thought about me or said what I should do. I broke away from societal norms and started doing what I wanted to do. My philosophy is that all I asked of others is to leave me alone, I promise not to infringe on your rights as long as you don’t infringe on mine. If I determine that I need your help or advice, I will ask for it but don’t force it on me. Conversely if you ask for my advice or help, I will provide in kind. I have very few close friends, and many acquaintances…there is a difference. Friends I care about, acquaintances I care about as fellow human beings however I really don’t give a hoot about what they think about me, and vice versa. For example, I am an avid hunter and fisherman. I enjoy harvesting game for my family’s consumption. I have family members that think I’m a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal, but I don’t care. I hunt anyway because I enjoy being in the woods, and I enjoy an awesome source of the best protein available from Mother Nature. Another thing is about family. You can choose your spouse and your friends, but family not so much. Just because you share DNA with another individual doesn’t mean to have to like them, nor should you care about what they think or say about you. I get along with my siblings, however my wife has a couple rather vexatious and troublesome ones. They cause more anxiety than good to put it politely, so you need to cut them loose from your life. You can associate with them, communicate with them, but you need to let the cruel and hurtful things they say and do roll off you. Easier said than done I know, but I’ve learned to do this through years of practice. If there is some sort of family get-together that you don’t want to attend…then simply don’t go. Let them think what they want to think; they’re going to anyway, and you’re not going to change that. Many might think I’m a loner or an introvert, but I really don’t care…I’m happier that way.

1. Don't burden someone else with responsibility for your well being. If you're cannot find solitude alone, you are doomed. 2. Here are a few things I have garnered over the years. "Wear life like a loose garment. Feelings aren't facts. We are responsible for our own happiness. Don't compare your insides with someone else's outsides. By helping others we can actually hep ourselves. I am not responsible for others' feelings. You spot it, you got it (it takes one to know one). If you want to get out of the hole you have dug, the first thing is to stop digging. Don't give up because one more effort (blow of the metaphoric hammer) could bring success. Another version of that last one is, don't give up before the miracle happens. Charity begins at home (deep one). The opinions of others, the people, the places, and the things in Life are like a Smorgasbord, you can pick and choose what you like, need or want, and leave the rest." Those are enough for now.

BUT in your desire to make sure it won't happen any more, be careful, you can end up with a chip on your shoulder and start to pick fights were there aren't any. When married you have a rightful set of expectations validated by a certain social contract. Expectations of a partner you have consciously chosen are valid. And while you can chose not to deliver, a sense of being hurt and disappointed by another person is completely justified. Being thankful is a must. I so often see people who won't even smile when someone does something for them. And instead they say: "Well it is a normal thing, why should I thank for sth that is in a standard set of behaviour and nothing extraordinary". On one hand this is justified because we may start doing things due to appreciation and not internal motivation. But on the other hand, hey what's bad in a smile and thank you?

Like the divorced guy 3 times changed it to two and steals your money from you because he needs it threatens you with shooting through your neighborhood loads bullets in his gun behind your car he can't stand an independent women who thinks for herself and treats you like a child. Yes he's abusive and does not care at all but he does fit in the norm of where I live. That does seem to be a going trend too bad the police adore him and he gets by with no he has no respect and I am sure he is confident within himself that he won being so ruthless. What a prick to me he truly is his interpretation of love is ownership. Talk about rampage. But when you need the ones you love in your life in your life they are not always there for you. So yes he took full advantage and I had to find that out. I guess this is one of the parts of what they call the unfair in life. Sure I'm better off he was jerk. Don't comment back if you have negative feedback because right now you all are just strangers and to tell people they are mentally ill or unimportant really kind of sucks. Or to show them that.

Yeah my daughter dated a guy who parents belittle other people probably they are the real killers. And actually when the dad puts down other women he's putting down his own wife my take on it. They need to try to be the real good Samaritansin life since that's is taken out of context. And used as around to be killed. Definitely taken out of context. So too bad they are so not understanding people. There creation must be creating misery for others. Can't even go to them for help. What did happen to the world of uncaring people I think they like to wait til your literally beaten and bruised up and they are so disrespectful to others how crappy of the mfers. Really interesting when you already knew this it doesn't matter there status it can be a wealthy person or poor person that treats you badly or in between. Good friends are hard to fine. Sorry really just don't feel like making up the excuses that they are just taking their bad feelings out on others. Wander how many others they do this to. Definitely no apologizes. They just don't care. Made it clear.

My mistakes/hardships in life are all on me. I had a good childhood, chose the wrong path in early teens, but learned a bit later at 16 when I quit school, started working to support myself and later my family. Pretty happy with my life now,and have instilled my work ethics on my daughters. Sh@t happens, look towards yourself first to see if you did wrong, then correct the mistakes. Most times I was in the wrong, other times, not so much.

The first one, "You're not that important" is so correct. Once you get over how important you think you are or how important you want to become, then you can start living. Focus on being the best person you can be. No one knows why someone was born into a poor family and others into a rich one. A wealthy person is not the one that has the most, but the one that needs the least. Learn how to say NO. This is so important. When my friend came up to me and said, "My mom went shopping and left her cigarettes. Let's go smoke a few". I said NO. He said Why and I said that it was a stupid idea. A best friend is the one that says No to a stupid idea This also applies to doing drugs and alcohol. REMEMBER, no one ever picked up a bottle of alcohol for the first time and said, "I'm going to become an alcoholic" or for that case, a drug addict. If someone keeps insisting that you to do something stupid, they are not your friend. Say NO and walk away.

The day you realize you are stupid is the day you become truly smart. Getting drunk with pretty people is never a mistake. Alcohol can have benefits in certain occassions. It boost confidence and make you sociable at times you can really use confidence. It is also liberating, it makes pretty people more tolerant and honest. You will learn what that means when you meet really beautiful people from France, The UK, and Scandinavia while you are all getting drunk in paradise. But do avoid getting drunk with old friends especially when they are unhappily married. Dont be too afraid to be stupid. The dumbest thing you can do is to play smart when you have not beem beautiful.

Nicely done. And I especially like that you noted that once you accept these truths you will actually be much happier and less stressed. I would add: 1) There is no one true love out there for you or anyone else - just a percentage of people you may be compatible with. Once you accept this, you will never have a broken heart again. 2) Whoever is in the White House has very little if any impact on your personal success or failure. It's still a good thing to vote - but your life will not be saved or ruined either way. 3) Not everyone has the best of intentions. The next time someone gives you an exasperated "I am JUST trying to help you out!" - reply with a "Wonderful! You can start by helping someone else." The look on their face will be quite rewarding.

0:35: I take a different spin on this. On one occasion I offered to take a grocery cart from someone who had just emptied it. I considered it a minor act of kindness (and convenient for me), but they told me they had had a very bad day, and my offer was a big boost to their morale. I would prefer to say that the importance of an event is different for each individual involved. You are not always the most minor (or major) player in an event.

There is a saying I live by; "I decided long ago, to never walk in anyone's shadow, whether I fail or succeed, I live like “I BELIEVE” With Honor and Integrity. No matter what they try to take from me, they “Never” will take away my dignity. Because; I will always live my life with Honor and... INTEGRITY!!! @@arvinbrianlira1 You are 100% Correct Arvin. Loved Whitney! Sadly/Ironically I was a 6th grade Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Police Officer for several years. During the school year, I would take hundreds of photos of them. They knew from day one of class, They were now "All" My DARE Kids! They knew, I cared and was there for them! Learning, Having fun, hanging out, etc. I even spent the week with them, at Science Camp, going on hikes, sharing meals, activities, etc. in the mountains. At the end of the school year, we would have a 6th Grade DARE graduation. As part of the graduation, I put together a slide show for the parents to enjoy. I played "The Greatest Love All" during the slide show! At the end, there was never a dry eye in the auditorium. The parents got to enjoy watching their children at school and I got to enjoy helping those children "hopefully" make good decisions! Ironically, as you know Whitney died from abusing drugs. She was so very talented. Yet, her life was wasted/cut short by drugs! In my over 20 years in Law Enforcement (now retired). Teaching DARE at the 6th, 8th, and 10th grade levels were some of the best years of my career. 🙂

This may be true in normal situations, for 'normal' people, but when you're something society as a whole treats bad, then half of these points will just land flat. @Darkstar Yeah, a lot of prejudice from your part, I might say. Why would I ever, ever again, elaborate or provide arguments to a media that only has one thought-process. I'm tired of having to constantly having to explain myself to the tiniest detail, only to get the silent treatment afterwards. Who do you all think you are, that when someone is being mistreated, they have to explain themselves to each and everyone of you or being called a liar or a bad person?! Only furthering the proof how people being mistreated is not always their own fault. Which again, results in silent treatment, because God forbid your pink glasses might get dirty. Really, who are you out of those other 100.000s of people that think, that if they don't get the explanation, they get the benefit of judging you for it. And this is exactly why I keep my interaction on anti-sociaal medium to a minimum, because you always got people like you who think they can judge anyones opinion based on their own experiences. People like you are tiresome, because your sheer quantity. And if you didn't realize, I'm not further interacting with you or others like you. My message is for people 'in the know' and aren't living in 'fake-positivity' bubble.

I finally realized the full meaning of taking ownership of my own life when I got laid off, and had a lot of time to think about what I really want to do in life. I said to myself, "Now that you finally have all the time in the world, and are finally able to take a break from life, what is it that you really want to do with all of your free time? You can literally do whatever you want, and you have the time to write cover letters and resumes, and go to interviews for any career you want (while remaining well rested). Since it had been a good 6 years before I had any kind of time off or holiday, I was screaming inside because I just really needed a break! And I have learned to listen to myself in what I want, instead of people telling me what I should be eating, telling me that I need to be more social (when I have never once complained about being by myself), and telling me what kind of career I want. My favorite phrase that I hear people say (after telling them what I want) is, "No, you don't want that; you want this" and saying things like, "You did this because you were feeling this or that" (after just telling what I was actually feeling). I hope and pray that I continue to take control of my life, and I hope for you all to do that too! If you have toxic people in your life, get away from that person; you don't need to spend another minute with them. Do what you know is best for you. If you don't feel good after doing something that somebody told you to do, you don't have to keep doing it. God bless 🙏.
