Great instructions. One question, how long in cm is the base of your triangles (option 1)?
@craftyshed
@craftyshed 7 месяцев назад
Hi! Base of Those triangles is approximately 7"(18cm), but this is correct for 9" (23cm) wide boards. Basically you don't need to measure anything, just set your saw at 30º angle, make the first cut, then flip the board over and cut again through the "top/peak" of the triangle. Please note that you need small Christmas baubles for this project. Thank you for your question.

What colour/type paints are you mixing to get that effect please?
@craftyshed
@craftyshed 8 месяцев назад
Hi! For the brown one I used water based dark walnut varnish (2-3 coats). For silver with black - 1st layer black, 2nd layer silver paint applied in short strokes not to fully cover the base coat, let it dry for a bit (not fully) lightly hand sand some parts with P60 sanding paper. For silver one - 2 coats of silver paint lightly hand sanded with P60-P80 sanding paper to reveal the wood grain. Start sanding from edges, just a few strokes here and there to reveal the bottom coat. Thank you for your question.

Hi! In this Video I use these forstner drill bits similar to amzn.to/3h0hWfp they are 1 ½” (38mm) for standard tea light. I’m trying to make these out of pine and the tree is breaking in half when I try drilling the top hole. What am I doing wrong?
@craftyshed
@craftyshed 7 месяцев назад
Hi! Just a few things that can cause the top breaking off - 1. Work piece needs to be secured with a clamp against some flat scrap wood, so there is backing behind (exactly as I did in the video) and this triangle cannot move while you are drilling/cutting a hole. 2. Try to reduce the speed, especially towards the end, when it is almost through (my video is sped up 3x when I’m cutting that hole) 3. Not enough material to hold things together, try to reposition or reduce hole saw diameter if possible, just so there is more material left to hold everything together. Thank you for the question.

@craftyshed
@craftyshed 8 месяцев назад

Hi! Be honest, I never measured the base. I cut first at 22.5 degrees, then flip the board over and cut again 22.5 degrees from the very edge (top) of the board , flipped again and cut and so on. In the video I never marked for cutting. Depending on the board width the base will change. Cutting angle is also not critical for this small project, you can cut 30 or 20 degrees. I hope it helps. Thank you for your question. I would sell them one for 12 or two for 20. Cost per unit - around 1 to 1.25 for material (dry, planned pine board), varnish/paint, sandpaper, decorations, etc. Usually I make them in batches of 12 or 24, so I spend under 15 minutes per unit including painting and decoration. I have 4 school goers at home, so if something is unsold before Christmas, these decorations are good gifts for their teachers, childminders and others.
