Houston authorities released new details in the tragic case of the 12-year-old Texas girl who was found dead after sneaking out of her home on June 17. Jocelyn Nungaray ran into two men at a 7/11 gas station when they asked her for directions and coaxed her into following them under a bridge. The two men allegedly killed her and dumped her body in that same area. Police report that the suspects’ roommate turned them in after seeing their wanted photos. Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie breaks down the new developments.

I agree. My son was a toddler when Sandy Hook happened and that crap changed me. We also live in CT so it felt too close. I remember watching the news and wondering why aren’t there ambulances on scene? Then I realized no ambulances because no survivors. That crushed me.

When a child is 12 they really cannot understand the danger that lurks around them. Their body starts to blossom and they want to be adults But their minds are still in the safety bubble of being nurtured and being protected. The really sad thing about this case is that she made a bad decision only didn’t had the chance to learn from her mistake. To me that is so incredibly tragic😢 Rest in peace sweetheart 🕯️🕊 My prayers are for the loved ones left behind 🙏🏽

I hope her mom feels some guilt. If you listen to other reports, these men weren't strangers to Jocelyn. Her mom was 27 raising a 12-year-old. She said she heard the cat going crazy but never once got up to check on her kids to see what could have been wrong. She didn't realize her daughter was missing until she fully woke up the next day. Ignoring the cat. Jocelyn was smiling in those photos with those men. She was too comfortable and I partially blame the mom. That was not that poor baby's first time sneaking out.

She probably thought they were nice (they lured her in first) then asked for directions and she probably felt safe at the gas station but she should not have left the gas station with them. I agree. None of us are perfect parents, and as children we all did things that were wrong and potentially dangerous. Victim blaming is another way to say personal accountability. It is true that she is a victim of these men, but it's equally true that she put herself in this circumstance. She would be alive if she hadn't snuck out, she is the root cause of her own demise. That's not blame, that's facts. Not holding people accountable means you enable the behavior that ultimately leads to their victimization. To not point out her error and to consider this "normal" behavior endangers so many more people. We need to teach our kids to take care of themselves, and you don't do that by cultivating a victim mentality.

Wanting to flee the country is NOT necessarily a sign of them feeling guilt. It's a sign that they are coherent enough in making decisions.They understand the concept of right and wrong even if they do not feel any guilt or remorse for what they've done. Opposing lawyers of the criminal will be sure to point out these important facts incase the monsters try to claim insanity. Wanting to flee after committing an evil crime shows awareness enough for them to know they've done something wrong. It's proof they're not insane and are fit for trial.

It really didn't. You could get hung for just about anything if you were poor and just about nothing if you were rich. There was no right to a lawyer or anyone to represent you in court so there was a high likelihood of being hung for something you didn't do. It meant the poor would help other poor avoid the law and because the poor had no recourse to the law they may also carry out punishments themselves.

The problem with this “logic” is that 100% of the crimes committed by illegal immigrants were preventable by just enforcing the law they willingly chose to break. Comparing them to citizens is also disingenuous, given that people born here are our problem, but importing people from around the world -against our will- makes them our problem when they shouldn’t be.

Please let your young teenage kids understand the seriousness of sneaking out. These are terrible times with crazy people doing these killings cause they no there is no serious consequences. The lady stated she was a normal teenager doing normal teenager things? I would have had my butt whipped for even thinking I could sneak out of my house at even 18 I didn’t do that. My kids are 28/30 and they knew better than to sneak out you need a ride somewhere tell your parents. And if answer is no it’s no. I’m not sure if her mom warned her of the dangers of being out late at night. Parents don’t be scared to let your kids see these crime reports. It’s real and I’m sure she didn’t think it was a big deal but it is! Sneak out and it’s 50/50 you make it back home.
