12a RX7 NIKKI CARB REBUILD - The Carb Master Shares His Secrets 

I feel like I should add this here, it is important to check your floats before assembly. Look up the carburetor FSM to find the specs (distance to the air horn/gasket surface). I recently rebuilt my carburetor and have spent the last month taking apart and back together multiple times trying to solve some crazy flooding. Finally picked up digital calipers and set the float tangs to get the level within spec and eliminated the flooding. I was extremely careful with my floats, so I have no idea how it went from fine to undrivable. But floats adjusted and it's all good now! Also another tip, make sure you install the main body gasket correctly! if you don't, your secondaries won't work! Great video.

I have done this three times over my 40 years of RX7 ownership. This is a great video. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to do this. From experience, do not get the floats swapped between sides. The right hand side float needs to stay on the right side. If swapped they will stick intermittently and cause flooding or starving.

I found the two balls and two weights as described in the video. I also found an extra large long weight and didn't see where it came out. This is my third Nikki rebuild but the first time I've seen this. Came out of an 84-85 12A. The other two rebuilds turned out great. Many thanks.

Fun fact: Nikki jets are color coded: yellow is primary side and white is secondary. Yellow is more brass and white is more steel looking. Goes for bleeds as well and even jet caps on 2bbls. Does anyone know what the max open for the idle screw is before it starts transitioning off idle passage? 1.5?

I believe #5 bird shot is the same size ball bearing. That is what I use if I loose one. One shell will do 100 carbs. :)

My carb was missing one of the accelerator pump weights... I copped off the top section of a needled from a motorcycle carb and tossed it in there as a weight... boogie uggy brappity pappity my 12a is slower than my 2001 Isuzu trooper but is louder than my CRonetwofive

I am ready to reinstall my acrb. Am I supposed to use a gasget when I put it back on? The gasket that I have that came with the same kit you had on your video looks correct but does not have all the lottle holes on one side.

Ay RAD Potential ! Got question about a Nikki carb. I’ve been watching you for a lil while now, great work you nd Charles ! I have an Rx8 I’m rebuilding as well. Anyway. This is my 3rd 12a car. My 1st car with a Nikki carb , it’s an ‘83. It’s a very strong engine , had it sitting for awhile but for some odd reason I can’t seem to get the car to idle. It once did when I purchased the car some odd years ago… I can post some videos related so you can see but I’m really jus trying to tune the car. I get it started , pull choke to get rpm’s nd gas up. Drive it around the block to get heat in it nd the choke closes nd that’s when I start having my issues. No probs with fuel delivery. Could float lvls be the reason it won’t idle? Sorry lol I’ve daily drove an Rx8 for years. Lmk , thanks

OK..... Question with the Rotary being "Basically" a 2 Cycle engine, How is the oil fed in to the Fuel system I am trying to re orient a outboard motor to a "basically" Flat 3 cyl motor and I am wanting to put a Rotary Carb on it since they are right about the same amount of Liters size, can I run 2 cycle mix through the Nikki or can I run any Carb with 2 cycle mix?
