13 Real Orangutan Habitats! (Planet Zoo Inspiration) 

The Smithsonian zoo (my local zoo) here in America has those climbing overpasses which connect two separate enclosures for the orangs. Once spring rolls around I’d like to make a tour of that zoo.

I've seen Bornean orangutans at Wingham Wildlife Park, Colchester Zoo, Chester Zoo and Monkey World.

German zoo's like to put terrariums in all buildings and I love it! In generally I think German zoo's are like 90s Dutch zoo's but putting reptiles everywhere we should do to.

Always one of my favourite species to see - not a huge amount of them in the UK. Such a shame they can't climb on ropes in Planet Zoo when ropes are such an important part of almost all of the real life habitats!

Planckendael's mesh indoor does give them a lot more space. If theyd have to give them a moat the indoor habitat would be way smaller or absolutely barren. I love how they have planting in their indoor enclosures, most dont have that

I remember the Toronto Zoo having some of those cool climbing overpasses you talked about, you should really check that habitat out it's so cool

My favorite (and the only great ape i like! I saw them at Singapore zoo last summer, and it was an amazing experience in the jungle setting above my head. The video was also really fun! As always :))

Orangutans are actually fairly common in zoos, I did for some reason not think this, because Aalborg Zoo is the only zoo in Denmark that has them?! Great vid btw

Very nice video! And very usefull as well, since I've only seen a handfull of orang enclosures myself. 16:30 In Dortmund, I'm pretty sure I remember the curator saying that the tapir don't share the indoor enclosure with the orangs. The orangs are allowed in there when the tapir aren't there though. I don't remember exactly what the reason for it was, but indoor they like to keep them seperate, while outdoor they are fine together.

Thanks once again for your inspiration videos, I really enjoy these! I can understand your opinion on German great ape houses/enclosures. Especially in North Rhine Westphalia/Western parts of Germany you'll receive that impression because of so many zoos close by and then again there are quite a few zoos with a lot of outdated areas. Duisburg really is very bad and probably has the worst organgutan habitat in Germany. I think that Cologne though is better than it looks. Both indoor and outdoor exhibits are very high and give them a lot of vertical space. Osnabrück though is worse than it looks in my opinion and worse than Cologne and Wuppertal for example to be honest. Anyways, Gelsenkirchen is one of the best orangutan areas in Europe and when it comes to other parts of Germany, you'll find some more very good orangutan habitats. Frankfurt, Rostock and Leipzig still have some of the best great ape areas in Europe (if not the world) with at least Rostock and Leipzig (not sure on Frankfurt) allowing the orangutans to use some of the large live trees in their outdoor areas. At the moment Dresden is building a new orangutan area which maybe could set new standards for orangutan husbandry. It's especially designed for the special social needs these animals have having, I think, five indoor and three or four outdoor habitats that all can be connected or closed off such as the orangutans want to. The ground size of these habitats won't be that large but there wont be any dangerous and space wasting water moats but very high nettings (around 10 to 12 meters) and a lot of climbing frames, so they gonna have a lot of vetical space. And the most special thing is the outdoor areas will be located in a patio of the building, so they'll have anough shadow during the hot summer days, protection against wind on stormy days and privacy from the loud noises of rest of the zoo. It's going to be a very exciting orangutan complex and something completely new in Europe. My Best Orangutan Habitats is from Apenheul, Cologne Zoo, Allwetterzoo Münster, Zoo Osnabrück, Ouwehands Dierenpark, Zoo Dortmund, Pairi Daiza (i & ii), Zoo Planckendael, Wuppertal and Zoom Erlebniswelt. 🦧🌴🌺+🤩😉👍 I like for Bornean Orangutan to get so Huge Enclosure with 2 Big Parts (Outdoor as Asian Rainforest🌏🌴🌺 with many climbing frames & Indoor as Ape House) and compatible with Siamang and I call it Indonesia Apes. 🌺🌴🐵🦧🐵🌴🌺
