This is the second episode of the series based around the IBG Model 1/35 Panzer II Ausf. b. (Pz.Kpfw. Ausf.b) in 1/35 scale. In this episode, I show you the steps I took to paint and get the initial stages of weathering started. I made no attempt to sugar coat the build in the last episode, it was horrible. So it's my hope that with a coat of paint and some basic weathering effects, I can put the problematic build behind me and get this model kit to a point where I'd be happy to place it on the display table. I'm trying not to take myself too seriously with these videos, so hopefully you all enjoy the presentation. If you like the look of the kit, you can find a link to purchase it here: amzn.to/44eKsNd. Please note that this is the special edition a2 version, similar to mine but with some differences.
Scale modelling, especially armour modelling and tank is the greatest hobby in the World! I'd encourage you to be proud of what you do and share it with the community.

Great video. Well presented and you made everything seem very doable for an average modeller. The Rocky video at the end made me laugh. Also good to put a face to the name. Love your work on Modelling News.

Dude this looks good. I'm not a fan of lightening the grey. I think XF63 as is representative of 7021s tone. But you were restrained and and it looks interesting. Props for showing my wirecutter handle. The more people that see that the better.

Hey Adam. Appreciate lightening the dark grey can tend to polarise people. One of my favourite things to do is a pre-shading layer, so youll probably find things will go a littler deeper from here… but we shall see 😊 Appreciate your comments - just subscribed to your channel 💪🙏👍

Very nice results. I admit to being a tad dubious about the stowage when you started painting it, but the end result is very well done. Looking forward to the weathering stage.

The Panzer is looking great Clayton. Looking forward to the final weathering episode for this subject. Can I ask what pressure you use on the airbrush for the details work I see you doing? I am not super confident when air brushing, and one of the things that I don’t seem to be able to get on top of is the close up work, and getting the pressure right. I am really liking your build and weathering projects, and the way your commentary is clear on what you are trying to achieve. Keep them coming, and cheers from a fellow Aussie!

Thanks Gary. Usually I’m working around 10-15psi…but the thinning of your paint also has a bearing on the result. As a absolute minimum I’d thin to 50/50…but often even more thinner to paint….but again, that’s dependant on the type of paint you are using. What paint are you using?
@garylawless3608
@garylawless3608 Год назад
@@workbenchhobbies4316 - Thanks for the quick response Clayton. I mostly use Tamiya acrylic paints, but I also use Vallejo. I have tried various pressures around 10, 12, 15psi with differing results. Maybe the thinning of the paint is something I need to address. I use a Border Models air brush with a 0.3 needle for the bulk of the painting, and a 0.2 needle for camo, etc. I generally thin the paint around 70 - 60 paint/30-40 thinner, so that might be the problem. I also need a lot more practice I guess. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. Cheers.
@workbenchhobbies4316
@workbenchhobbies4316 Год назад
Assume you are using a dual action brush too? Maybe try thinning your paint a little more, working around 12-15psi…then it’s just a question of controlling the flow of the paint. Practice practice practice 👍👍👍
@garylawless3608
@garylawless3608 Год назад
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Thanks Clayton. Yes it is dual action air brush, and while it is an entry level brush, it works well and is easy to use. I tried out a 50/50 mix of Tamiya acrylic and their thinner on an old model that I had given up for dead, and that mix works really well with that brush. So thanks for the heads-up. Now I only have to practice more. Cheers mate!

Thanks for sharing the building tips. In video 13:28, is MIG-2010(scratches effect) water-based or enamel-based? After spraying mig-2010 by air brush, what cleaner can be used to clean the air brush? water or enamel cleaner? Thanks
@workbenchhobbies4316
@workbenchhobbies4316 4 дня назад
Hi there. Thanks for your question. All of these chipping mediums are water based. That’s how they work. The water reactivates they and they allow for the top layer of paint to be chipped away. So..clean with water. Hope that helps 💪☝️🙏
