Good job QDC. You are so right about the tedium and difficulty of assembly and placement of the track! I was so excited when I saw this offering by Bronco of a Canadian tank. The tracks detracted significantly from the enjoyment of building this model. I assembled the tracks concurrently from recovering from a double tooth extraction and dental surgery. The residual pain from the dental surgery relatively speaking was a pleasant distraction from building and placing these tracks.
Thanks for watching my video. Your trip to the dentist sounds painful. At least you got it out of the way and you should feel better soon. I wish you a belated Merry Christmas. I also want to wish you a happy new year. 😃😃
It's such a throwback watching QDC, I'm 19 now as of typing this and since I was around say 11-14 I've loved watching your videos, and your videos for the most part have motivated me to build model kits, tanks in particular, I've built 21armor pieces 8 of them are very modern 2 are from the 1960's-1990's, 2 jets and 1 helicopter all within a 2 year timeline a lot from Tamiya but some from other big brands such as MiniArt, Hobby Boss, Rye, Meng, Trumpeter, etc. It's a fun hobby and I'm glad you influenced me. Never change, your such a wholesome soul to the model community. Wish you the best QDC.
Once again you have brought us a great video with a really good build. Thank you for mentioning the UK and our great Queen. We all need to support each other during these hard times. Sadly Vera Lynn has now passed. R.I.P
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't have time to write until now. Yes, I agree with you. Bronco has over-engineered the tracks but the rest of the kit is excellent. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I honestly appreciate it my friend. :)
Canadas contribution during WWII is very well known and recognized here in the UK, Canada being a part of the Commonwealth et.c.! Canada had ground troops, Navy and air crew, fighting in all theaters of operation, as far as I know... and considering Liz II is the Queen of Canada as well, it was very fitting to include her in the video also! Within walking distance from my house there is a memorial dedicated to a Canadian Lancaster crew who died on their way to do an emergency landing at Boxted Air Field.. the Lancaster had been attacked by a Luftwaffe intruder, I believe and it was burning badly and crashed just seconds away from landing. A new housing estate next to the memorial have the streets named after the crew and the approach to the estate is called 'Lancaster Approach'. Great looking tank, having followed the build on facebook I am pleased to finally see the completed tank in a video, following the process again, such as it were.. :) So well done, very well done indeed! Keep well, stay safe.. wash you hands!! Right..? ;)
Wow, I didn't know that the UK has made it known that Canada has made many contributions by naming streets after them, made memorial sites and other things.
Another great video. I got lost in time for a second listening to the song and looking at the Diorama. A Dutch girl and her father cheering on a Canadian tank crew....
Another excellent video!!! As the son of a Canadian soldier from WWII, I appreciate your efforts to learn more about Canada's contribution. Lest we forget!
Infographics has talks about what different countries did during the way. They have videos about different people who fought as well. I never learned about Leo Major until I watched their video about him.
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't have time to write until now. You are welcome. History is a funny subject. It can be manipulated to suit anyone's point of view.
A new addition to Lockdown fever, building Bronco Models tracks. The glazed expression on your face said it all. Remind me NEVER to build anything like that! Great job! As a Brit I have to say we too were shamefully unaware of the contribution made in both World Wars by servicemen from nations such as Australia, New Zealand and Canada to name but three of many. Just wasn't taught in school when I was a kid. Taking a look at the history of the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli, the Canadians in RAF Bomber Command and the US services in France in 1918 when their contribution was crucial to eventual victory has been a real eye opener.
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the compliments. This was a challenge to build. A fellow Brit has a different position. He says there are recognition of Canada contributions in the UK. I don't know what comment is correct but I just want to say thanks for watching my videos 😊
@@qdc748a Thanks for the reply. .....no need to apologise; I am amazed you manage to answer as many comments as you do! I am getting on a bit (grey hair and much less of it these days) so my remarks are really addressed to my now distant schooldays. I will admit that, when a few years ago we were privileged to receive a visit from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Avro Lancaster, the red and white flags of Canada were everywhere in Coningsby village, right next to the RAF base where the Lanc was based for it's visit and the Battle of Britain Memorial flight are located. Stay safe.
MrD53 Dear Mr QDC On many occasions I've intended to comment on your fantastic work but I've always been thwarted by technical problems which usally means me being unable to cope with the technology. That aside I seem to have mastered the dark arts today so please let me say that you are indeed an expert in every sense. What really endears me is that you know modelling is always going to be a balance between art and artifice. One is never going to get a true depiction nor will a complete flight of fancy be acceptable. You seem to totally get that and you back your position with meticulous and may I say thoughtful research. I thoughrly enjoy both your builds and art work but I especially enjoy your insights. Please keep them coming I'm returning to the hobby after a long absence and I find your work an absolute treasure thank you for putting so much back into a hobby you obviously love MrD53
P.S. Glad to see Bronco doing a Ram kit to compliment their great Staghound kit. I’ve built a Mk I Ram which is a resin kit produced in Belgium, (it was a Kangaroo, and came with a pretty decent interior) and a couple MkIIs which are also resin kits produced in the U.S. The resin Bogey and wheel assemblies along with elements of the lower hull looked a bit too challenging on both kits, as well as the tracks. As I mentioned in my previous comment. I bought Tamiya M3 Lee and M4 Sherman kits for the one-piece tracks. I also found I could use the Lee lower hull for the MkI and the early Sherman lower hull with three piece transmission housing for the MkII. The key difference being the bogey assemblies in these two kits. The Lee, like the Ram MkI had the return roller on top of the bogey, but the Sherman had the return roller moved onto the back of the bogey assembly, and that type was used on the Ram II. Except for the overly complicated tracks, the Bronco kit looks great, and you did an incredible job on it.
Canadian viewer. Two thumbs up from a Northern Neighbor. Great background history, very nice build. I agree the paint job and weathering is very nice and subtle. Loved the simple diorama and how you laid it out on the base.
Good video!! Was thinking about purchasing this kit, may just do so now. THANKS!!! for showing the construction of those track shoes, other modeling sites usually skim over that part or will show them already completed. Have that same track shoe kit separately to add to an M3 Lee tank but, whenever try to convince myself to start building them, quickly lose interest. Been in military for 20 years and built the REAL DEAL numerous times, do not need to build every single piece of a track shoe in 1/35 scale - besides it's a STATIC model kit!! Yes - looks more realistic, blah, blah, blah, but who wants to spend days/weeks on those things??!?! The look on your face when describing those track shoes was PRICELESS!! Well, if YOU can build them, then so can I.
Great work there qdc, well done and great final comments and best wishes. Wishing you all the best and to remain well. Looking forward to your next video.
Excellent. I like the way you create stories through the dioramas, I can imagine the living scene when you arrange the figures like actors. Best regards
nice to see you againg and in good shape! our fortune is that masterclub, miniart and friulmodel support us providing several types of tracks with much more easy assembling and great results. Mr Bronco, try to lear from competitors ;) all the best qdc! Alessandro
Just discovered your channel and subscribed. So pleased you have recognised the Canadian forces in this way. I was at Juno and Falaise learning about the sacrifices they made a few years ago. Terrific build and the figures are outstanding
OH !!! Didn't see your new video until now... I made sure to activate notifications for news on your channel again. There is something very special happening when watching your video's... They are sooooo relaxing and give me motivation to build models. Congratulations for this one ... fantastic job. And I'm so happy to see you again..... also can't wait to see your next video.
Hi Col, great job, I felt your pain with those tracks. At least you stayed...... On TRACK with the build!!!!!! Ooow, I'm here all week, ha ha. Brill job buddy keeping it going when those 700odd track bits kept coming, really well done. I hope all of your family and you have been keeping safe and well. Regards matey and great to see a video from you. Regards, Steve
Very cool kit, and, as usual, an excellent job building it. There's an interesting TV series called Bomb Girls from several years ago, about life in Canada during WWII... mostly surrounding women working at a munitions factory. No tanks, but I did learn a good bit of what the culture was like at the time.
Colin you are a star !! and you always say your not an expert at model making , well i beg to differ , you have great skills . I think your contribution to model making is invaluable. Im looking forward to your christmas message this year , still love the donuts LOL Keep going Mate
Great job on the tank, figs, and base work, Colin. Too bad you had a tedious time building the tracks. I had a similar issue with the Hobby Boss 1/35 Hungarian 38M Toldi tank. They were extremely fragile to remove from the sprues and assemble. I feel your pain Brother. Happy modeling. Bill
My favourite tank of all time. If I were rich, I'd try my hardest to aquire the real thing. Even a range wreck - and spend whatever it cost to bring it back to life.............
Thanks. I heard that a Sherman tank costs $500,000.00. Here's a video of a man who purchased one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HbUOmToR9T0.html
@@qdc748a I remember when you could buy them from Spain for £10,000. back in the 1990's. Sorry, I never said how fantastic your Ram looks ! I have had the Bronco kit since it was launched but it remains on the shelf unbuilt.
Very nice result! I remember those tracks well.... Interesting technique for the multi-coloured pre-shading too. I've never seen that before but it seems to add a nice variation.
Hey man I just wanna take a minute to appreciate that you record the whole process while you build the model! That’s kind of an extra little hassle to props to you for making entertaining videos! I’ve been watching you since I was a little 8th grader and still enjoy your videos even today after I’ve graduated high school! Keep it up QDC!
Welcome back QDC. Thanks for your patience in building this model. Your camera work is better than ever and the paint job is beautiful. Stay safe and thanks for another outstanding video.
Haha weeks to do your tracks love it! I just done 2 sets of panzer 4 tracks for 2 models done the Normandy ausf C and the Brukenleger panzer from Trumpeter there! Only takes a night to do panzer 4 tracks so looking forward to doing all my Sherman's next my m3 lee tracks were slightly different but my British Lee from miniart has the exa same 4 pc tracks it really does look good though! This is in my hobby shop and been in 2 minds to get it but after seeing this has made my mind up I'll go and get it for the stash atleast just now as the Sherman and lee/Grant builds are coming up next for a show here!
Every time you post up one of your start to finish builds I learn something new and not just about the model itself. Keep them coming I think this one is one of your best efforts to date. So inspirational.
I think you have taken a somewhat esoteric subject and made it interesting and informative - My Wife and I see through local media the Covid-19 and social issues gripping the United States at the moment. Take care Sir, and best wishes from Whangerei, New Zealand!
This looks great. The tracks seem like a nightmare but they did look amazing. Your figure painting has really improved over the past few videos too. Well done my friend 👍
I’ll admit that I bought a Tamiya M3 Lee and M4 Sherman kit to borrow the one piece tracks for my Ram I and Ram II builds. You have way more patience than I do.
Colin all the videos you make are always well presented , great info and love the model builds but i do look forward to the christmas message , the ones from previous years have been really full of great info and are a great end to a modelling year. So thankyou and i really will be looking forward to this years christmas message 2020 . keep uploading the model builds , and you must have serious patience to complete the tracks . Please Stay safe and keep uploading them great model builds , thanks mate
Iv done a few Lee's and Grant's my favourite being the cast hull m3 lee from Takom very recommended kit! Glad to see Bronco going with new plastic the yellow plastic they use is murder for glueing it hate the glue you sometimes need to sand the edges to rough them up! The British version of the Bofors anti aircraft gun was a nightmare to glue together!
I stopped over for 2 days in Vancouver BC on my way to the UK in 1988 & they have a RAM on display there. I took a couple of photos of it. At the time I thought it might be just a hybrid version of the cast hull Sherman not realizing until a few years later it was a Canadian built tank.
I totally understand your misperception. I had the same thought when I first learned about it too. I thought it was a Sherman. Oddly enough, the Canadians did manufacture an almost identical version of the Sherman but they called it the Grizzly.
As a Canadian I have always been interested in this tank. It's a shame about the tracks. I don't mind rubber band tracks at all. In fact, I prefer them.
The figures were from the tamiya universal carrier that you built a long time ago. Great video! Thanks for the warning about the tracks. Actually, they do look great though. You can really notice the hollow ends of the connectors, something you don't get with simpler tracks.
I am very happy about your new video! Nice to see you in good health. You did a good job with the Canadian tank. Very nice details and great painting work. Stay healthy and happy modeling! We'll meet again! 👍
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't have time to write until now. Thank you for your kind words. This was a challenging project but it was well worth it.
Individual tracks are indeed tedious. I prefer the vinyl rubberband tracks or plastic tracks in sections. But at least manufacturers like Meng include nice tools to make assembling individual tracks a bit easier. Sorry to see that Bronco didn't include anything like that in this kit.
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your kind words. Yes, 700 parts does test one's patience. It's cool to know someone from India is watching my videos.
