This would have been the ultimate dust shoe if I had not planned to use the current CNC machine, with it's wooden plates to cut a new version out from more durable material. If you follow me on Instagram you would have noticed some screen captures of the fusion 360 file I have been working on which will be the next version of this machine. I've subsequently redesigned the machine to the point that this shoe wont fit.

Cheers for the tip re: garage draught excluder. Been looking for that kind of brush for a while. Time to rebuild my dust shoe!

I love when the mistakes are shown. I learn from them as well.

If I kept them all in I'd be making feature films!

Even with all the mistakes (that we all make) I think it turned out great and does a wonderful job of pulling the dust off the board (and your shoes)!

I think your approach is on the right road to dust collection. For me visibility of the cutter is important so I am experimenting on similar lines with a wide diameter clear acrylic disk with draught extruder brush around the perimeter.

Hey Savvas, I don't know if you come back to these older videos to check for comments or not, but I got my machine up and running (kind of in a Frankenstein state for now until I get some shielded cable and drag chains) and I'm tired of holding the vacuum hose. So I started making a dust shoe and after using the first 5 or 6 versions, thought it would be nice to see the bit running. Can you tell me what type of acrylic you used? Thanks

Hi I think it was 8 or 10mm.

Nice savvas. I've seen a design of dust shoe that's fixed to the z-axis assembly in such a fashion where the dust shoe is fixed at the workpiece height. I made one like yours with long bristles but the cutter kept cutting it up. Not sure what I'll do with the new one

When I rebuild this machine I will make something which can attach to the side of the z axis c beam and can slide up and down around the spindle and remain at working height. I've made so many dust shoes over the years... it's the one place I don't seem to learn from my lessons.

I have tried many dust shoes designs but any that move with the spindle/router have the problem that the brush will either not contact the surface or be pushed down into the surface which then cause more resistance. The best is when the dust show is fixed and there is space for the spindle to move in the center of it. I use the design by NewBritt which I turned into a 3d printable model. This design is similar to the Suckit CNC dust shoe. This is for x-carve but it can be modified for any CNC. 3d printable shoe www.thingiverse.com/thing:1892044 NewBritts Video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PUcAXgsdk3U.html

If you check ebay for "cnc brush" you will find plastic bendable spined brush for this.
