They could have been made as a novelty but I am happy to see that they decided to do a functional tool. For me personally is not collectible unless it's functional. So what we got here it's a historical collectible functional tool/weapon. Pretty awesome!
so this one of the reason why i love Filipino culture because of their swords and knives aaaand machetes and i've seen a hundreds of them me as a blade hobbyist. i really like the specs about it, blade lenght, steel, and ultra thick than a usual blades, and also the leather sheath that makes me imagine the aroma of leather and also how the sheath made with even nail to insert into a hole i also love the tang and handle on it, its like you almost dont see the tang on it and it looks fully locked sooo what i can say to this amazing filipino blade, its like a Collection but its super durable enough to use it as Everyday tool and a Self Defense tool, but also it seems enough to pass and pass on generation, i have too many to say how i think to this blade but all i can say its amazing really.
The originals had thicker guards, that appears to be a guard off a late mod 1918 plumb style bolo, you can tell it’s not a mod 1917 Springfield bolo guard because they had the thumb latch and a square hole, the plumb has the hole but it’s round and hasn’t been broached square... I assume this is a windlass steel craft because they made a repro of the 1918 bolo and probably reused the excess guards on this repro, killer piece! It’s probably 1084 if it is a windlass
Got to thank you for that review..ive been to the atlanta cutlery store and held that blade but wasnt sure what it could do..now that i see the strenght of it i know i will get one....yo reviews help alot..thank u
I bought this not too long ago. This will definitely need some modifications. The spine is extremely thick and will need ground down. same for the handle.
Say Heah Is, I have a Military used Knife in the Phillipeans too, It's been modified, It's my Bundok which I think means Mountaines area, It's my BK-20, I almost missed out because it came with the BK-4, and the BK-5 which I already has, So I was going to wait for the price to go down, But something inside me changed my thinking and I bought the Limited Edition. Whew. ,, .
I own an original pre WWI BOLO MOD 1909 made in 1912 at Springfield Armory ( Flaming Bomb marking) brand new from US arsenal and I noticed that has been sharpened at the factory with chisel grind. According to my knowledge this is the only bolo or machete issued by USA with this kind of chisel and I wonder why? Anyone knows?
Kinda looks like the sword Indiana Jones used in the end of Temple of Doom. Or maybe my memory is fuzzy idk but thats what I first thought of when i saw it lol. This has gotta be one of the better tools issued to troops, especially for the early 1900s. I wouldnt be surprised if originals were simply used up.
