1935 Crosley 515 Fiver Part 2 Restore

In today's episode, Buzz has to take apart the dial to repair it. Have a good laugh and watch as he
tries to get it apart to fabricate a new plastic piece. If you think putting it back together will be easier, think again! Then it's time for the dreaded chassis cleaning, as Buzz is not in the mood for it. Later, he re-wires the IF cans, and reassembles the chassis. He then runs into more trouble trying to replace grommets on the tuning plate holder. Fun time indeed! To finish off the video, old Buzz tests the radio, then shows an old comedy skit with Dickel and Buzz filmed in 2015.
Grab a snack, laugh and enjoy this unusual problem repair episode.

Hey Buzz, Great job on the dial and chassis. I can't believe you got that chassis looking that good with just Brasso. What I like about your videos is you show your work and are not afraid to try stuff, plus they are so danged funny and easy to listen to. Nobody matches or comes close to your technique. Some of those screws look like a hybrid of slotted and Robertson drive. I'd replace those old set screws with new ones having Allen heads. When cleaning chassis you just love turning the radio into a 'Heathkit' so you can assemble it again later. Since you had to remove the big electrolytic capacitor, why not re-stuff it? OMG, go to HFT and buy yourself a T square! After accounting for inflation, that radio is now worth $90. Since that dial is a friction drive, I wonder if roughing up the edge of the plastic disc with steel wool would have made it work better.
@Buzz1151
@Buzz1151 Год назад
I have re-stuffed electrolytic cans before, but now I think it's for the birds.... haha
@KennethScharf
@KennethScharf Год назад
@@Buzz1151 Chirp! Well at least you should have put the dead cap back in the chassis for looks. I might have put a drop of lock-tight in the dial in addition to flaring out the flange, seems like you ruined that punch unless you'll have the same problem again. Also a drop of lock-tight to hold those grommet things together before re-assembling the bracket to the chassis would have made the job a bit easier. Otherwise, GREAT JOB, that's going to be a nice radio.

@Buzz1151
@Buzz1151 Год назад
Hi John, I used steel wool with the Brasso..🍺
@erikdenhouter
@erikdenhouter Год назад
@@Buzz1151 Thanks for telling that. Steel wool leaves a lot of particles, bad for your speaker and other magnets, and it even sticks to my Dremel, making it look and feel like a hedgehog. You can buy abrasive pads, in all sorts of 'grain', just like sandpaper, but much easier to apply, because it grips like steel wool. An example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HTTOpALM2Sk.html B.t.w., your little fight with getting that bush to hold into the other bush, trying to flange it out with that tapered tool: you could have lowered one or two steel wires of a millimeter (broken drill bit, or a nail, etc.) into that hole together with the pointy tool, and then whack it with the hammer. So the pressure would be on the steel wire and that would force the bush partly out.
