1939 ROYAL ENFIELD ENCOUNTER
To the owner
It was great to meet you and a pleasure to see the bike and listen to your stories. As soon as I left I kicked myself for not even asking your name, or to see if you would be interested in joining us at the Saddlebags Social Ride. Anyway, feel free to come along, there will be several Royal Enfields but I suspect none as historic as yours. Maybe you don’t want the attention it would undoubtedly attract 🤣

Isn’t this just a wonderful motorcycle. Amazing to think it has been in the same area since its registration. I may not have the facts 100% correct but it’s something like it.

Since 1901, Chewie. Oldest continuously produced motorcycle company in the world. A friend of mine has a 1920 flat tank Royal Enfield. Not sure if he has learnt to ride it yet, but I certainly wouldn’t know how. Levers all over the place. Thank you mate 👍🏼

@@simonchilli2088 I wouldn’t know where to begin. The gear change was on the fuel tank. Advance/retard, decompression, choke amongst others on the bars. Gas or oil lights 😮 I would have a go on one that I owned but would be petrified of breaking somebody else’s 🫣

Great bike! Noticed another Classic British Bike museum in Cornwall I’d never heard of. Probably you have? The Hawkins British Motorcycle Museum (think it’s part of a car showroom?). Located at Hawkins Peugeot, St Stephen’s, St Austell, open 6 days a week and best of all for Saddlebags - IT’S FREE! Sure you know of it but thought I’d mention! 👍🤣

What a lovely old machine, custodians ( care takers) what the Native American tribes people were until we stole their land and took ownership of it. I hope the owner goes along to your social ride, that would be brilliant 👍😊

Lovely, reminds me a bit of Jason's Vera, which I think his engine was 1940, but the frame was 1950 or something like that -If I am not mistaken, this is a model J - the precursor of the Bullet. The engine designs before this had a titled cylinder and with the model J, the straight up engine became the typical design for the engines onwards. Good catch and thanks for sharing!

@@Saddlebags73 Vera's frame is a Model G - main difference is in the front fork where we see "modern" telescopic suspension in model G and of course the side casing, otherwise they are very alike, but it looks like the engines are identical. Of course Jason has the much coveted rubber ducky as well 😁

There's just something about a British classic bike, SB, especially the single cylinder jobbies. Sure they need a little more attention than a modern machine but thankfully they lack all the interfering electronic gizmos. With a machine like that immaculate Enfield you have to tell it what to do, not the other way round.

Yes, with some mechanical knowledge you could get yourself out of most situations with something like this. With modern bikes, although they are more reliable, when they do go wrong you’re most likely standing around for a few hours waiting for recovery.
