I do agree with you, this was a really unique take on "Say Yes!" I am impressed with the concept of the Oxfam shops and wish we had such a commodity in the U.S. We have vintage, thrift and consignment shops but quality and prices vary exceedingly and I've never seen one only for bridal wear. I guess that's not to say they don't exist (l only went wedding shopping twice, once with my sister and once for myself), but I've never heard of one before. I think it is a great option for women who don't want to or can't spend $$$ on their dress. Thanks for sharing this episode with us!

I absolutely love the concept of Oxfam bridal shops! The issue I had with most of the dresses that Laura tried on was that she obviously has a pear-shaped physique, so they should have looked at dress styles that had more of a cap sleeve, or more detail at the top to balance the bottom half of her body. I do think that shapewear will definitely improve the appearance of the dress.
@dietotaku
@dietotaku Год назад
yeah, NONE of those dresses did a thing for her figure, they were clinging and highlighting all the wrong places. but she does have a point about it being so cheap she can get two, and that looks like it would really suit a steam locomotive. for her shape and the era she's looking for, she really needs long sleeves, lots of lace, and probably a fair number of buttons as well.

I hope the person who bought it felt special even though they didn't get it from a posh shop, because there was no difference really.

I absolutely love the style from the 1940s. I grew up in the house that my mother grew up in, and she still had her clothes from her youth, carefully preserved in the built-in Cedar closets we had on the 4th floor of our home. Becoming a teen in the late sixties and early seventies, it was fashionable to wear retro clothes.

@Susweca5569
@Susweca5569 Год назад
@Danyelle Robinson I've never been about fads. Classics always have a place in my wardrobe, and as someone with a degree in textile design, I create my own style. In the forties during the war, resources and finances were at a premium, so the fashions had less fabric that skimmed the body without being overly clingy. They made up for the clean lines and thriftyness in fabric with exquisite details, beautiful flattering collars, trim, buttons, etc. One of my favorite fabrics, Rayon, was cheaper to produce than silk. My mother's vintage clothing was rayon, wool silk, cashmere, and wool. People washed almost all of their laundry by hand and hung things to dry, so caring for it wasn't a problem.
