Thanks, again, for the informative videos. It looks like the quality control team are very diligent when it comes to inspecting your work. Even checking the parts before they go on and immediately after the parts are installed.
The tiny bits of grease used are of no consequence. Yes, I could use gear lube to prelube the bearings but it will all run out and be gone by the time I get it going. The grease will stay there and lube the bearing until the ring and pinion slosh some gear oil out to them. On a 50up 8N there is an inner seal that isolates the axle bearing from the gear oil and those bearings run packed in grease.
@@mattmerritt1040 If you have a 1950 up with the inner oil seal, yes you must completely pack the bearing and hub, if it is an earlier, just a wipe of grease on it will lube it until the oil gets there.
What is the part that goes behind the hub that is very very important. I can’t find it referenced. Thank you for your videos. Looks like a rubber piece that keeps all the gear lube in. That’s what you said anyway
The splines on your axles are worn OR the "Land of Almost Fits" has struck again and made the hubs wrong. Either way, you need to shim the splines to make it work.

Interesting. Wonder what prompted that change. Can't see a lot of farmers taking the time to pull axles and repack those bearings as often as they probably should. Great video, thank you for sharing your knowledge
@@alanarthur-ni3nw The old seals were problematic and the brake shoes were constantly getting oiled down. They probably only need repacking every 50 years or so LOL. On my 1950 8N with the inner seals I drilled and tapped the bearing retainer and put a grease fitting in . So now I can give the bearings a shot anytime i want. Notable that Ferguson added the inner seal to the little gray tractors too albeit a couple years later.
