Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer one gorgeous American classic: a 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Cadillac has always been the pinnacle of American luxury, but 1959 may have been Cadillac's pinnacle of American design. This massive two door sedan features a chrome grill dressed with jewel-like teeth spanning the front between dual headlamps on each side. The chrome trim is liberally applied from front to back including trim along the hood, each side, and topping each fin. Perhaps the most recognizable American design feature: the fin, made it's debut in 1948 by Cadillac. The fins stuck around and hit their peak of style in 1959. Projecting from each rear tailfin is a set of two bullet shaped tail lights. These lights have been used by hot rodders and custom motorcycle builders for their unique yet recognizable look. This particular '59 Coupe deVille is dressed in Seminole Red with all the chrome trim in great condition. It sits on the proper wide white wall tires which scream the 1950s. In the era of suburban sprawl and expansion in America, everyone wanted a large sedan with a comfortable ride and plenty of room to pile the family into the bench seat interior. With gasoline selling for $0.30/gallon in 1959, it's no surprise this luxury sedan comes with a 390 CID V8 under the hood which outputs a reasonable 325 HP. This was backed by Cadillac's 4 speed automatic transmission which made for a smooth and effortless ride. You can pilot this land yacht with one finger on the wheel and cruise all day at 65 mph without a care in the world. The interior is large and comfortable featuring black and white two tone upholstery which is like sitting on your living room sofa. The car is equipped with power steering, power brakes, AM radio, and power front seat. This Caddy would make a great boulevard cruiser to go check out the town on a Friday night. Can you imagine loading up 4 of your closest friends and setting out on a weekend road trip in this gem? Head to the beach, go to a car show, head to your favorite team's sporting event, heck drive this bad boy to Vegas if you want. Man on Man! Perfect acoustics for taking one back to how it was to HEAR that glorious power plant and turbo Hydra Matic do it's work STOCK, no cheap gimmicks. And the camera level just high enough for a boy kid's eye level back then, and the angles give that "every boy's dream' who was into luxury cars....thrust forward to memories of going with dad or mom to the dealership for any car for top quality service intervals... And, the later tv ad in '69-'70, at the Masters Golf Tournament as Cadillac was one of the main sponsors.. someday was the main theme plug those years. Love love love it! Like Jazz music to my ears to add to the bombing blues on this FAB post Although my side of the family tended towards MOPAR (also Great) and or Autolite, this all around vid post can't be beat!!! High five for a soul brother bro! No games, just straight ahead fun. In a land where the sky wasn't even the limit, and bigger was better, what a time to be growing up in America with dreams, for all it's faults, I wouldn't trade it (the good old USA) for anything.

1st year for the Turbo hydramatic was 1964. This car has the 4 speed dual coupling Hydramatic 390 engine. My 58 cadillac has the same transmission, and the 365 v8.

This is the entry-level Series 62 model, NOT the posher de Ville. Clues are the crank-operated side windows (power windows were standard on the de Ville), the lack of "Coupe de Ville" badging on the exterior, and the plainer upholstery.
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt 3 года назад
Right! We had the Series 62. $4500 new. C de V was about $1K more. I passed my driving test in it!
@johnfranklin5277
@johnfranklin5277 2 года назад
Yes correct, and that fact tells you these companies that deal in these cars, dont know them very well. However, its still a genuine cadillac, and many series 62 models were well equipped with power windows, factory AC, etc.
@alanblanes2876
@alanblanes2876 Год назад
@@johnfranklin5277 It is a bit confusing, but the Model 62 is the deVille, and the Model 61 is the budget model that went on to become the Calais.

In 1983 I almost bought a flat-top Sedan DeVille. $650. It had power windows and vent windows. But the car had a few problems and my parents' mechanic advised against buying it, and therefore I wasn't allowed to get it, even though I was 20 years old at the time. Man do I wish I had gotten that car.

Not a Coupe de Ville. It’s a Series 62, the base model. Door panels and crank windows are a dead giveaway. (We had one when I was a kid.)

and it's not a coupe deville it's a series 6200, there are very small differences but they are different cars.

Every stance and movement was superb here. No screeching tires, or over the top revving, just right for this Caddy, and the driver looked cool too. If he wasn't running 💯 leaded octane fuel, he might have even gotten better sounds out of this distinguished, yet sporty land cruiser if he did, or gave it a shot in the tank. YES AND YEAH!!! Got a NATURAL HIGH off of this one.

Hearing that engine/transmission duo in low speed-to-idle 'kickdown' mode in the first 10 seconds (especially the first 5) of the video is FAB creme de la creme. Oh yeah!

Bombing hood insulation probably made for this great sounding power train. I would add cornering lamps, and a big ole electric cooling auto -fan to pamper that baby! Did I actually see one already mounted on the front side of the radiator?
