Michigan native and certified auto appraiser Jason Phillips inspected this very cool 421 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2 + 2 hardtop. An original California produced car, it lived in CA much of it's life. It reportedly came equipped with it's original 421 337 hp engine, turbo 400 tranny and 10 bolt rear end. Showing just under 100,000 miles, it has a well survived interior and a good magnetic pull all around the body. Floors are solid as a rock. Decent quality driver repaint with some flaws.
Do YOU need expert car inspection or auto appraisal service like this? Details below, www.autoappraise.com 800-301-3886

That was a bad ass car when it came out...but then again there were so many bad ass cars produced in that era of the 60s -70s. A friend of mines father purchased a brand new 66' Bonneville when we were 3rd grade. He bragged about it all day in school. After school I went home with him to look at it. And yeh...he had bonafide bragging rights. It was a factory built Lead Sled.

I once had a 1982 Trans Am! The Chevy 305 engine had been rebuilt, new Cam, lifters, rockers & springs. Also a new Holly 4bbl. Horsepower was increased to 250. It was pretty cool! White with black accents and those funky bowling ball wheel covers. A T-roof too! Back in the 80s I tooled around in that thing thinking I was Mr. Cool Dude!

I grew up with, and passed my driver's license test with my dear father's 1966 Pontiac Parisienne 2 door 'coupe' with the 283 ci V8 and 2 speed auto transmission. It was in that beautiful turquoise colour and Dad removed the rear fender skirts from day one and stored them in the garage. Such and awesome car and so many GREAT childhood memories with family trips in that beautiful Pontiac. LOVE it. No car yet, to me, has a better front end aesthetic as that Parisienne...stacked headlamps, shark nosed...so cool.

Pontiacs always had great style, engine performance, especially their big block cars like the GTO and Firebird, as well as the Catalina. Very good body design with good aero dynamics. Especially GTO and Firebird. Excellent suspension as well in Pontiacs, this is about the time the rolled out the Wide Track I their cars. I had a 1978 Pontiac Phoenix with a 305 Chevy, small block V8. Had a 2 barrel carburetor; was thinking of installing a 4 barrel Holley, but changed my mind. It was one hot little car till the the camshaft got busted up, then I had to junk it.

First time I’ve ever heard of someone having a hot rod 305; but in a Phoenix, yeah sure. I’ve owned 2 Phoenix, 4 Grand Prix, 2 Catalina’s, 1 GTO, and currently have a Bonneville sitting in my garage. I will never forgive GM for shutting down PMD.

I had a 65 Catalina in silver blue. Mine had a 389 with a 2 barrel carb and dual exhaust. The valve lifters were making noise so my mechanic said they had to be changed. Had him do the job but when I got the car back the oil pressure idiot light was on. I brought it back to him he said he will take care of it and I got it back the light was off. A few days later I was driving on the expressway and the engine blew and seized. I looked under the hood and noticed the oil pressure light wire was disconnected. What a scumbag I went back to him and he said he couldn’t do anything. I cursed him out and left. About 6 months later they closed him down for tax evasion and he wound up in jail

Those silly vacuum gauges were popular in '65' for some reason. My father ordered a new Chev Impala SS with a 327/4bbl and then went with the vacuum gauge instead of a tach. When asked about that apparent oddity he explained he wanted to know when he was using a lot of fuel. To which I responded: "Why buy a 327/4bbl if you're concerned about economy?" No allowance for me that week! Imagine anyone buying a 421ci/330hp car then trying to keep the vacuum gauge in the green. LOL

I purchased a '65 2+2 convertible in 1988. Rusted/rotted frame but it sure looked great. And the top was in working order. I picked it up for the summer of '88. The doors and drop top frame were the only things holding the car from snapping in half. But, still $400 well spent. You had to go really slow over railroad tracks.

Ha ha ha...great story! I was working in a tiny bodyshop many years ago...owned by an owner that knew nothing about cars. He kept on taking in complete basket cases and expecting that we could "restore" them in a week. I had to work on a 1952 Ford Convertible. The only thing keeping the front clip tied to the back clip were the doors being latched to the quarter panels. The floor was completely missing there was no interior and you could see the ground, and 90% of the rocker panels were rotted and missing. The bottom 5 inches of either side of the cowl, the thing that the door hinges attach to, was rotted and missing. I found out that the car had sat in a swamp for about ten years. What a nightmare!

I noticed the same thing. "less than a thousand miles on a rebuild." "The spark plugs are old." =?????? If I had a pile of money I would buy it and do a resto mod on it. Basically build the 421 with a bunch of go-fast goodies and put a automatic O/D behind it. Get the suspension up to speed and have a nice summer weekend fun machine. Those 8 lugs were cool as shit but I don't know if it is possible to put discs behind them, if not I can live with the drums.

Driving 120 mph in a 20+ year old car with original suspension? You’re lucky you lived to tell the tale. I hit 110 in a 9 year old ‘70 Cutlass when the car inexplicably jumped one lane to the left. Very fortunate that the ‘69 Buick 225 w 430 engine that my buddy was driving in that lane was fast enough that it had just vacated that spot. (I had only a 350 w 2 bbl). Of course, if I had been in the left lane to start, I probably would not be commenting here. I too paid $300 for that car, and never raced it again.

@@Ponchoman07 Who are you telling? And I did it time and again; it's pure luck I didn't kill someone. I was 33, too - way old enough to know better. In my defense (if there is any) I'd fallen in love with a beautiful 18-year-old married mother of one,. She hadn't left her husband yet (she did eventually) and when I told my wife, she had taken my 4 sons and moved to San Diego, 350 miles away. The only way I could deal with the heart-crushing loneliness was to stay drunk. And engage in suicidal behavior.
