Woah, now even Jimmer has seen some of my work in action, incredible... And the mod isnt even out yet.. When i started the project i really thought no one would notice it being on an old sim like GTR2, but i thought, screw it, historic racing is such a niche community anyways, lets do it for the few who are passionate, but this is now really encouraging :D

@@steenzeebergiversendyrmose1517 GTR2 has the Bentley Blower, AlfaRomeo 6c and Mercedes SSK. But they're cars of different classes. The blower was from 5.0 and Alfa Romeo and MB SSK from 8.0 .
@@OhItsThat who else would? i mean really. get off it. his point is you can still play the old race sims, even better with a new computer and all the updates. and having computers back into the early 80s, its awesome to see the software being backed by BigCorps and Esports.
Being a plane nerd as well as a sim junkie, I'm pleased to see 7 Flying Fortresses and a dozen P-51 Mustangs parked between turns 10 and 11. Wonder if they were actually there....
They were man. And also Lookheed Constellations, C-47 former ww2 transports and long range reconnaissence planes...it´s an airport / museum of war and civillian birds.
@@mxfxsr : There's no way that WW2 B-17s and P-51's would even be in the Air Reserve by 1966. It would be late model B-29's and F-86's of Korean War vintage.
That would be cool as well, I'm intrigued in the question of if there was a Reserve or Guard unit at the raceway at all. If the sim uses the wrong era aircraft I'ma let that slide. I'd have to look it up but you'd be surprised how late and long some aircraft survived in the Guard.
I really can't tell you how much I enjoy this series. Again as said many times before, your narration and passion is all one could wish for. Several older sim race channels has gone around the bend and gotten a bt too "flashy and SOME". This is perfection for relaxation, enjoyment, crack open your favorite drink and just let it absorb you. Thanks again for this.

Fun trivia bit, but Donohue was only in a GT40 thanks to the persistence of Walt Hansgen. This was before Donohue's trans-am championships repeats and Ford did not want anything to do with Mark. If memory serves Walt threatened to not participate unless they signed Mark too. Mark also said he was way in over his head in that GT40 at the time. This was all addressed in Mark's auto-bio, "The Unfair Advantage"
@@wesleyamancio3686 the main racers are available in Assetto Corsa as well (Jaguar, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari). I'd like to see a series about the '55 WSC made by Jake too, but I had also the idea of make a video on my own (when I'll have some free time to do it) about that year's edition of Le Mans (it would be a sort of "tribute to Pierre Lavegh and to those 83 innocents whom perished in the greatest accident in racing history"). I love rFactor but if you go look and see the AC version of the Mercedes 300 SLR - that was a remakable car indeed, no matter what happened - there's even the LM version with the famous rear "aero brake" working, a very cool feature indeed! If you have AC I would look foreward to it. Hope I've been useful. :)

My favorite track when playing iRacing. I really jelled with their version--except that hard right after Big Ben. Christian was excellent as Ken Miles in the Ford vs Ferrari film.
So much fun to watch. Hard luck at the end though. One thing I noticed was something which could have helped the overall performance - you barely made it into 4th even on the long straights so you could have shortened your gearbox a bit and gained some acceleration out of the corners. Still, I think you did a great job of handling the knocks as they came up.
Quite a lot of B-17s and P-51s on the side of the circuit! Wondering if they would have had that many in 1966, nonetheless awesome content as always Jake!
I was curious too, I found a large gallery of pics from the ‘66 12 Hour race but only one shot of the airfield in the entire thing. It was just littered with aircraft, but most look like light private planes, not warbirds and definitely not heavy bombers. There were a few C-119 Flying Boxcars and DC-4s though.
I know there's a 1952-66 Sebring layout for GPL; I think it's specifically dated to '64. I caught a video of a lap of it a while back on Ferdinand Schulze's channel. The classic layout is 1.5 miles longer than the current one, with both the 1952-66 and 1967-82 configurations generically being listed as 5.2 miles. Chaparral did win Sebring in 1965, with one hell of a rainstorm in the middle of that one (tires floating down pit lane and all). And actually, the 2D would go on to win the 1966 Nurburgring 1000 km. Furthermore, the 2F in 1967 won the Brands Hatch 6 Hours. I'd imagine that that Corvette, like the competition Cobra 427, was forced to run as a Prototype by the FIA after Ferrari's shenanigans with trying to pass off the 250 LM as an "evolution" of the 250 GTO (yeah guys, one's front-engined and the other's mid). Yeah, the actual race had 64 starters, but 44 is doing pretty darn good. The odd thing with the 365 P series is, they don't seem to have any more power than the 330 Ps. I'm guessing it was a route taken for reliability, and it worked in the 1965 Reims 12 Hours, but the 365 P2 is more than 500 lbs heavier than the 330 P3. Interesting note about the Reims 12 Hours; it started at midnight and ran until noon, so kind of the reverse of Sebring. Also, fun fact, but there was a bridge a little past Thillios, and they'd hang curtains from it to help the drivers' eyes at sunrise.
In the first few moments the fly through camera passes an advertising thing for Inver House. That's a little known whiskey distillery from my home town in Scotland. That literally stopped me in my tracks.
Have been to every 12 hour race since 1968, so to watch this video has been a real treat for me. Is there any other sim that has this track, or can you still find this game anywhere? Right now I'm still using Xbox 360 and have been for years with Fanitec equipment. Once again thank you for bringing me back to the glory days of racing.
racing classic cars on classic tracks is great racing, GT3 bores the hell out of me, i love Monaco '66, the modern version is nothing but barriers ruining your hasty cruise, can't stand it
Awesome driving mate. They are not an easy car to drive, I have been practising at Le Grande in one a bit lately. Wallowy, terrible brakes, overpowered for the handling and as you say very touchy with the downshifts. No point where you can relax. You really need to be onto your breaking points. So easy to miss one at the end of the long straights when you are doing lap after lap. Hard work, I bet you are worn out afterwards lol. The track is also very good with the old planes and vans and other details.
I don't understand how 15 years ago already such good sims that still to this day also look good, were released, and fast forward to today we have BS like Nascar Ignition. NI21 is not only Not a Sim, but it's not even a Game. It's just an organized crime.
Where can you get these classic tracks now ? Race dept has a few but not many. Would love to do something similar to what you've done here and daytona but can't find the tracks. Pretty new to GTR2 despite having owned the game on release I've never played it until last week, something weird though with the cars in power and glory, the bonnet/hood looks way to narrow (kind of comes to a point like a cone), don't see this in your video maybe because of the car you are driving.
So, back in the '60s was there an IMSA rule that stated all cars had to be right-side drive? Because ford went to great lengths to make sure that the shifter and seat is on the right side which makes for a unique-looking cockpit.
Jake, did you ever think about setting up a webpage for yourself, where you have links to the races here and a link to buy all the necessary files and instructions to mod an existing installation of the games to be able to replay the races? I would love to do that instead of „pointless“ hotlapping or occasional races against an unsatisfactory AI Performance and -field. I realise some of the content might be copyrighted and it‘s quite a bit of work to set everything up, but I am sure a lot of your fans would approve and buy even a simple instructional file, what to download where and maybe an .ini file for the games. Canadian Eppie Wietzes finished one position ahead of you...Interesting...Looks to me that perhaps the rear suspension was just too stiff. I noticed you saying that you had a lot of oversteer (loose) coming off turns.
Love all your content. What track version is this? I've tried the WSCC1967 Sebring and the 70Sebring (eSport-Racing.de) version and found that the pit road and straights have a weird grip issue with a dust effect...maybe wet effect? Also, the start is not Le Mans style. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rather scrappy race from Richie. But oh well, even Fangio had days when he just couldn't keep it on the track. Also I guess stopping before the line to let the leader through and finish right after him would have been historically accurate. It was done many a time in F1 and sportscars alike. Not that the thought occurred to me before the stop though.
