This is very nostalgic for me. I had a tan 66 Kombi camper with a white pop top, a 6 volt electrical system and a 1500 cc engine, Over 20 years I put 4 different engines in it. It was very fun to drive and was fast enough to always get you there. 72 miles an hour was top speed with 5 people in it. It was great in snow.
Sweet!! Love the camera angle. She move's right down the road. Sure helps motivate when you can drive it around. There is a nylon bushing under the floor that holds the shift rod tube in place. When that get's worn you get that mystery shifter. Mine did the same thing. Now I think I will take my 66 for a spin around the lake. LOL Thanks for the ride mustie
you have a keen eye to pick that up, but your right this area has that look with the typs of houses,,l started in west milford nj but love this area, well at least in the summer,
I would be willing to bet that one short ride brought back so many memories. What a cool ride and the town you live in sure is a beautiful place. I enjoy when people bring us along for a ride Big thumbs up for that one. Have a great weekend and take care.
I used to ride to school everyday for several years in an old VW bus. It would fry your feet sitting in the back seat since the air ducts came right out under the seat there. I rode about an hour each way to school and back home in the afternoon. As I recall it was kind of a mustard color on the bottom with the cream color on top. Pretty neat. Congratulations on all your hard work. Now just the fun of all the little details to finish it up.
Time for a Gopro Mustie. Great little camera for these type of ride along vids. Very cool bus. I have a 65 13 window that we bought about 16 years ago now. Nothing like the split buses.
The most rubbery, vague shifting gearboxes and linkages ever but you've still got to love rowing a bus through the gears. One of the best low performance driving experiences ever.
The first time i was in a bus like this was in the early sixties at about 6 . I went with my neigbours ( who were contractors ) to drive away rubble! Allways remembered that, and now at all most sixtie, i still love these busses!! I think that Ferry Porsche made a great design!!
Yeah im about to turn 16 this month and i want my first car to be a Split screen bus. For the Nostalgic factor and to be different than trucks and SUV's at my school
That sounds really good, and I know you are happy about it. I heard the brake drums make their noise, but that'll go away when you drive it one more time
First time I let my wife drive my 65 ford truck she had no idea how to deal with steering wheel play. After over-exaggerating the play and weaving from one side of the road to the next she gave up.
I'd love to get an old bus, but the prices if you can even find one! I had a '63, '64 and a '67 Bug. The '67 was the best car I ever owned. Now I have a '67 Pontiac Grand Prix, all original in mint condition and a '52 Chevy business coupe, mild custom.
so we don't get coffee? and btw, I thought VT would have a lot of round abouts...my friend in Brittany France shows a ton of them...ok, nice ride, nice to see out of the windshield clearly :) chuck
Not much wrong with that is there, just minor tweaks :-) Right indicator bulb is faulty but thats an easy fix. And as you said the gearchange needs a bit of tinkering :-) Wonder if there is a easy way to tighten the rack and pinion up just a tiny amount? Brilliant :-) i would be chuffed with that, nice job mate :-)
lol..i had a 78 with the 2000cc f.i. it would touch 90 all the way floored. You didnt want to do that though...lol. you had to keep rocking the steering half a turn either way to keep it on the road. 60-70 it was fine.lol
Looks good I bet a happy feeling finally having that Bus-Van back on the road. How long did the restoration take, when was the last time you drove it on the road?
Very nice! Pretty high idle? I have a 1958 Edsel (kind of a ratrod) and my feets are moving while watching your video clips of driving your cars. My car is also noisy, shaking and loud. :)
I was an awesome video mustie1. I know it's been running for a while. But that is awesome just to see you drive it for the first time after watching all of those videos. Why does it idle so high? Or it seems like it's idling very high.
