Coming back and watching where it all started! @ 8:45 you hit the nail on the head. It's been so much fun to follow projects and learn from guys that feel more like neighbors than video stars...
Should have finished listening to the end of the video. What you said at the very end was really important. About the they may not be what you're doing but, they now have a way better understanding of what it takes to get to that level. That is the one thing that I love about RU-vid. It will save you tens of thousands of $$$ and time. Because you will figure it out real quick by watching videos whether or not you got the hootspa to finish a project you're looking at taking on. Also it will help you figure out to what level you want to take it. Thus it will also save you a ton of time in the process. Because like you do, mowers I will never fill up a gas tank and try and fix everything on a mower before I figure out if something will run. That's something you taught me and I appreciate it mustie1. that also works for cars, welders, anyting you're buying from someone else. Thank you for that mustie1.
Hi, I am someone who just found your channel and have gone back and watched all your videos, still got some way to go to catch up. To give you some background, I did what you are doing 45 years ago (not as good as you are) to my VW and travelled across Australia. Sometimes where there were no roads then, they have them now. Therefore, I am reliving those days, all those years ago with each of your videos. I am now 72 but still get a sense of satisfaction and excitement every time you get an engine to fire. Keep up the videos and never forget there are people who really like your down to earth attitude and don’t have a bucket of money to get things done, who have to take the cheapest way past a problem, good onya. Hey Mustie1 it's been some time since you posted this video, I'm sure you have learned a lot about yourself, found the talents and abilities. Your as good as anyone else. And now many are learning from you. Thanks for post the videos and sharing your talents.
I really loved your explanation about RU-vid that was really encouraging to me just starting into RU-vid as far as making videos I'm thinking I'm going to start making some videos of some of the stuff I make around here. And I was encouraged by you, and several other Gentleman on RU-vid. Thank you for the encouragement.
I discovered you recently and have been watching from the beginning. Watched this one today. There is a channel for a hotrod shop in Fortworth Texas call KC's Paint Shop. They do some awesome show quality cars. They have some videos of their body man sanding a couple of cars. One trick they use after the bondo is high build sandable primer so that they don't have to fill such small imperfections. You can spray on some of the thick primer. They also usually strip right down to the bare metal to prevent reactions between different types of paint. Laquer over enamel has the same effect a paint stripper. You are right. There is a huge mountain of things to learn. I haven't painted a car in about 30 years. I have probably forgotten most of what I knew.
I'm afraid to drive the cars too, I worry about fires, short circuits. loose fuel fittings, loose driveshaft bolts etc. I actually started before Pete and have been at it about 3 1/2 years now. My first video was of a friends band who wanted the video posted for advertisement. I figured it would translate to my projects and started MC&HR shortly after. I watch because I like you and the rest of the gang so keep showing the wrenching.
@jasonmushersee no, that was a bay window bus, this is the first jen called a split window, but I do have one of the bays too just waiting its turn,,thanks for watchin
you speak the truth, man. i've learned a ton just subbing up and making friends through youtube. its a great help. specially when it comes to mechanics. love it!
Where in Connecticut do you live? I live 25 miles south of Boston. I am owned by a '71 transporter. I'm doing the same thing you're doing. I went to night classes at the local Vo-Tech for welding and auto body.
@pisserschannel thanks buddy, I do have one but its the skills behind it thats what needs work on, nice of you to offer what you have,,nice pink mustang you have there,
RU-vid has been a great help for me for the things I work on. Corvairwild, Pissonjapscrap (now TheDieselStop) ShawnCfarm and Spikedpunk have helped me out lots. I forget how I found your channel, But I really enjoy your vids and learn a lot watching them, Keep up the good work!
@Mustie1 Hi what do you use on bare metal thats been sanded down to protect and ensure rust doesn't come back?,is it etch primer, zinc primer or epoxy or something else, whats the best stuff to put on bare metal??,thanks
amazing and very inspiring - thanks! How much does it cost you to do the whole project, find an old bus, and totally rebuild it from scratch as you are doing? ...and how long does it take. You really inspire me to try this myself!
Give the body "a light guide coat"... A light coat of dark cheap spray paint and it will show you the high and low spots... also check out SWRNC on youtube very informitive though a little abrasive at times...Many Blessings SMR
You can go to wolfsburgwest's internet site and find that color combo for '67, they have a chart describing what color every single surface is supposed to be inside and out.
another thing if you want it to be really straight. You need to back the inside of the panels with another material. I would use aluminum and panel adhesive on the inside of the panels. Prime it with polyester primer or 2k dtm primer then block it after backing the panels. Otherwise it will dip when you run your block over the flat area. That is if you want to get it perfect.
Mike F - I'm new to this, can you do a video showing exactly waht you mean by 'Blocking' -- that's not short for block sanding is it? -- and backing the panels? Look forward to your responce and I'll copy what you said to use later on. thx.
I bought a 1973 be bus type two that’s in pieces but it runs. But it wouldn’t be legal to take it on the road pieces are falling off where do you suggest I start?
Just don't do like I did. Don't go watch the ones of him driving around in that beautiful bus. Because it's been way more fun watching him start out with it and work on it. I wished I would have known that there was these videos back there on it. I've never seen a bus... Other than an occasion one on a movie, before I have to join this channel. They are really cool looking inside now. I love the way the windows tilt out that's awesome.
Try not to use grinder type of wire wheels on Rusty metal. It might seem like your cleaning the metal, but what your actually doing is beating microscopic particles of rust deeper into the metal. Nice job anyways love all your videos
is that bondo or plastic filler over paint....I dont think that will last. Your looking at crack city....Should be bare metal or possibly epoxy primer with special fillers.
+DanTheManIOM Actually titzian is the german color. made by glassomax not glassurit. Glassurit is the new system the old is called glassomax. If you want to be technical I have called titan red before as well. ha ha
About 37 years ago a lad called "John Sponge" shouted me to cross the road from behind a school bus. I ran straight into a camper as this one, travelling at 40 ish mph and was knocked flying, right off the front of the vdub! The "Sponge" started screaming, "It wasn't me! I never said a f...... word!!" repeatedly as I was scraped up. Anyhoo, I got a vdub scar on my leg to this day (kinda like a hole-healed-over type thing) and the wonderful memory of "Spongerello" panicking when it dawned on him, he might get a bollocking for killing a school friend! Anyone else got any proper vdub scars?
