So helpful. Thank you. I had know idea that the switch came out the front, spent about an hour today screwing with it.

I replaced the switch on my 69 Bus and the aftermarket switch was junk and lasted a couple months. I had my mechanic bypass the key switch and install a rocker switch for power. New switches are junk.

Yeah. I hope I still have the original one. I might try to rebuild it. The key tumbler didn’t want to go back in all the way so I had to use an aftermarket one with a square key.

It’s usually the wiring. It can have a loose connection some where. Try to check all your connections. Can you take some pictures of video and post on RU-vid? I need to see where there might be a loose connection.

im having a problem with my bus the headlights wont turn on. but the side marker lights work. the headlights came on a few times but stopped working
@SanDiego_VDubLife
@SanDiego_VDubLife 7 лет назад
That could a few things, that has nothing to do with your ignition. Start at the headlights and work your way back to the light switch inside your bus. Take off the headlight and make all the connectors are firmly attached. Check for rusty connections or bad wiring connections done by a previous owner. Once you check the connections behind the actual headlight work your back to the switch. Take off the switch with out disconnecting any of the wires and spray them with electrical connection cleaner or some sort of solvent, maybe even WD40. If they still don't work try pulling on each wire individually and see if any come off easily, that means they need to be replaced or tightened by carefully crimping them with special pliers or try with some regular ones. After all that if they still don't work it could be another issue somewhere else.

mrabelonee I'm trying the headlight relay. hey you didn't make another video after you removed the leaf springs to lower the bus. I'm in San Diego too.
@SanDiego_VDubLife
@SanDiego_VDubLife 7 лет назад
I think I have a video on here for the headlight relay. As far as leaf springs, it didn't lower my bus very much, I only took out two leaf springs. I think I took out one from the top tube and one from the bottom, It might have lowered my bus by one inch. My bus isn't running right now or I would show what it looks like. Check out San Diego Air Cooled every Tuesday at the Carl's Jr. in Chula Vista.

I think they are called torsion bars not leaf springs. leaf springs are on the rear end of trucks usually on straight axle cars.

Sorry never saw your comment. Not sure about that. I’m guessing the housing part is different but the tumbler might be the same.

Martin De Jesus Raya hey that’s awesome dude. Glad to hear you got it all figured out and your big is running. Sorry I didn’t reply. I’m just learning how to use this RU-vid thing. Now I get notifications on phone. So I’m all geared up. Now to get my bus project going again. Stay tuned for some videos on that. Then hopefully the 1965 bug which you might be more interested in. Just curious how did the ignition come out? Was it the same as the bus?
