That big selection switch is used on fender guitars. It's called a Fender Switchcraft Jazzmaster slide switch. Looks and feels really nice when they are replaced.

The line in the middle is supposed to be offset. Take a look at an excellent write up about how it all works and the known issues in the document; www.pong-story.com/LAWN_TENNIS.pdf

The same guy developed a PCB which can be ordered from Silicon Chip Magazine which is a Pong clone with all the bugs fixed which were mentioned in the article. Dr. Hugo Holden is a bit of an interesting fellow; he's both an electronics engineer and a highly respected ophthalmologist.

You had me a little disappointed when you called it "done" with the right paddle sound still broken... : ( Glad you pushed on through and fixed it! Awesome video as always.

Here Joe talks about fixing design faults on the board, including the line not being centered, faded net, slight ball wrapping and paddles not going all the way to the edge: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jfqk6aycKqU.html The article comes from the original author of Pong.

And the "Ball loss" into the vertical blank (Black hole). Paddle range issue was a feature state by Alcorn or Bushnell to eliminate endless game play. You gotta break the coin-box (over filling) to make money. The author was Dr. H. Holden writing a 96-106 page article, "Atari PONG E Circuit Analysis & Lawn Tennis:". It includes a Q&A section with Allan Alcorn, the original hardware designer tasked from Nolan Bushnell to get PONG game working as proof of concept. Bushnell, Dabney, and Alcorn formed the original Syzygy company before being renamed to Atari, due to availability of Syzygy name. Nutting Associates were contracted to build Atari's early Arcade machines.

Why didn’t you put sockets in when replacing chips?

I think you can make the paddles longer by adjusting the pots on the board? I have a flimflam 4 player cocktail cab that does anyway

I messed with those pots.. they just moved the paddles.. didnt change their size

@@classicarcaderepairs4818 Remember watching a video (I'm pretty sure it was Joe's Classic Video Games) couple of months ago. He has couple of videos on his channel about Pong. The game he was fixing had paddles not going all the way up, and also, the game sound did not work due to changed tv that wasn't fixed to use game audio. His channel got better now, as he is not filming with a potato anymore lol. There were times I would stop some videos as I couldn't bear to watch the crappy video quality for longer than 5-10 minutes. Audio was muzzled as well, but not anymore;).

@@classicarcaderepairs4818 One thing I don't remember, though, is if the paddles wrapped around the screen (like this board has) or should the paddles stop at the edge. Could this be another bug? Hmm...
@Omega_Mark
@Omega_Mark 3 года назад
@@classicarcaderepairs4818 I watched Joe's video again. The pots are supposed to stop at the top and bottom (physical restraint of the pot). I guess you just have pots with a different value, resulting in a longer paddle travel.
