Nice build.. needs some race tires for all that power and braking now. Thanks for the update. You have one of my favorite dallara swap built! Keep the videos coming! I did the Dodge Daytona 2.2 Turbo build in my yellow 74.
Great point to make. I built this swap while living in a more milder climate (San Francisco Area) and honestly AC is generally almost never required however, I recently moved literally 60 miles away to south San Jose and the temps are well, on average 20+ degrees more. So, yah keeping AC would have been a good decisions. Problem I have is simply space for the compressor. There is no room at the bottom corner and the rotrex supercharger occupies the only other space I could use. I have considered. an electric compressor like this oneru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mRo05wph2F0.html There is space to mount it in the front boot and close to the battery, also in the front boot. However, I am not quite sure the trade off of space, power and added complexity vs cold air is quite there yet. That said, it's early summer and we haven't hit the triple digits (yet). Still thinking it through...
Looks killer! I always liked these cars, and would love to build one just like yours if I did. The widebody really makes the styling standout complementing the origin design. I always thought that a k20 swap in the aw11 first gen MR2 would be cool, but this has that beat by far. I did do something similar and have a Porsche 914 that I stuffed in a 1.8t with a big turbo. It would be very interesting running against your car and seeing the differences as I bet that your power is much more linear. I can granny drive mine around until about 3000rpm then it will build boost, but by 4500rpm its now a rocket and will turn into an animal as it completely leaps forward, tearing at the street until about 7500rpm. Before the 1.8t I did run my 914 with a 16v g60 with an aftermarket lysholm supercharger so I think I know how your car kinda feels, I really liked this setup for autocrossing. I imagine that your Fiat would be a beast at an autocross event. Right now I make between 320-350 depending on my boost and I weigh 2080 pounds with half a tank of gas, you must be much lighter at around 1800-1900 pounds. Loved your video! If you want to see my 914 I have a couple of old videos that you can see on my channel, nothing too special.
Very late reply sorry - sounds like our cars are really close power to weight ratio. With me in the car, scale says 2125, so the Fiat chassis weight is closer to 1930 lbs. Love to see how your 914 does in an auto-x. Also similar power band. With the Rotrex's pully size I am suing, I can't push the engine RPMs too high or I risk over rev the supercharger. I set limiter to 8400, with peak boost at 14 psi. It starts to make + boost around 3400 RPM, so even putting around, the car is pretty responsive. On the freeway, unless I am "having fun", I rarely drop it out of 6th gear at 60 or higher MPH. It has the power and torque to easily pass nearly anyone. And a supercharger linear power is something I really like about this setup. That said, when VTEC kicks in, you do sort of get a little "kick" that can sort of feel like a turbo kicking in (just a little). Love to see some videos of your Porsche!
Awesome! I’ve followed your build thread on the red K20 car, just found this video of your new beast! I’m about to start a very similar build on my 1986 Bertone. I’m really torn: all-motor K24 or turbocharged K20/K24. Also 13’s vs 15’s. Would love to chat with you!
I just inherited an x 1/9 from my dad that just recently passed away, and I am looking at doing this swap as he already bought the k20 motor. Could you point me in the direction on getting info on completing this build?
@@fiatmonkey4012 thanks man! I’ll check it out, and I saw some things with them online and I’ll definitely check them out. I’ve seen a few receipts from them.
Is the car NorCal or SoCal? I am thinking of doing a K-swap X 1/9 as an upcoming project and would be interested in seeing it and learning from your experience. I am SoCal and am finishing a Fiat 124 Spider retromod resto.
Hi Michael. My car is in San Jose. I know of 2 x19 swaps in SoCal but I don’t know the car owners personally. Can try this FB group m.facebook.com/groups/2575480112697504/?ref=bookmarks Good luck with your build and don’t hesitate to reach or ask me whatever. Have done these now 3 times…
