Change of plan.. instead of continuing with the shim method, now that I’ve seen the inside of the front unit, I’ve decided to go for the Vernier kit instead!
It arrived from OldBritts today and I’m trying to get everything reinstalled asap before next week when we have an exciting Norton club garage crawl event planned

Have the '74 mk2 in the stand, engine supported and waiting for me to attempt this very job, with the same excellent AN kit. I'm just taking your 'refresher course' while yamming me dinner. Wish me luck, I'm diving in 👍

Good luck!! I hope everything goes well. It's one of those jobs that's great when it's over! 😉

I bought the same kit and will install this winter - thanks for this series. It's nice to see it done before doing!

Nice modification Ti, I always found the rubbers to be quite easy to insert too, although there was a tapered tool to assist, it was never necessary. The smaller rubbers provide some progressive damping and come into play during hard acceleration etc. The new rubbers, with the right clearance, will improve handling as the engine/gearbox assembly is part of a subframe that supports the swing arm. You will need to do the rear isolastic now to get the full benefit. Make sure that the clearance is there, a tight mount can damage the lugs on the frame. Good videos as always. Steve.

Very useful videos! Replacing the isolastics is one of the jobs that I've got lined up for winter on my old man's '74 850.

Thank you Luke! Good luck with yours. They are tricky little devils but worth doing! Cheers, Mike

Well that went in easy! one of mine has that type fitted, dont know how easy it will be to strip it down to replace the rubbers in a few years. they might just push out by the looks.

It went together beautifully, though I'm surprised that it doesn't come as a pre-assembled unit. I am looking forward to your work on the rear isolastics. Will you do them before the big event?

Interesting, thanks. I find myself wondering what the two inner rubbers do, as they dont touch the tube they are in, and I doubt that the assembly would move enough in use for them to do so.

Grant Snell They limit the movement of the housing.
