Looking away from the tube station the one on the right sold new model railway equipment and the one on the left was full of used stuff. He later bought out the Bassett Lowke shops. >>>>At there night Fred they had 60 shops Nationwide I even worked as a Service engineer in the Birkenhead shop from time to time.. Thanks Steve. I used to get on the bus go past Cockfosters and visit the Southgate store with my mate from school. I rem all the Mamod engines and the Tamiya RC models.

I'm 55 and Just got one of these for Christmas a 1977 roadsters in really good condition going to replace burner tray as not keen on meths but Will fire up for the first time to see if it runs before I do found your video helpful
@@UK-CB-RADIO can I ask your opinion fired up the car not sure how tight the little screw that holds the lever on should be as it runs better in reverse than forward seems to not have enough grunt when on the to floor there are bubbles around the safety valve so might might be a pressure issue
@@gmmill66 The lever is not held on tight (think there is a spring on the thread) but should kinda click into the forward and reverse setting. Check for drive belt / band slip as they stretch.
@@UK-CB-RADIO I don't think you actually need to replace the tray as it should be able to fit the solid fuel, realistically it would prob be possible to run it off things like wood as well
Hi, I'm Italian and I own a STEAM ROADSTER SA1 and it's liquid fuel, which is strange because 1976 was already solid for exports? The wheels are box artillery type (in much better condition) brown, complete and folded into a cupboard. Obviously the car is in very good condition with some scratches and nothing more, the cylinders are retified with silverware paste and no leaks ...
Excellent video. Do you have any diagrams or drawings for the roadster, thinking of buying one that needs restoration, but in much worse shape than yours is. Thanks
Thanks. No sorry i just used my Brooklands as a guide although the running gear had changed. They are pretty basic if you take plenty of pics when you take it apart you should be ok.
Dear friend, your SA1 STEAM ROADSTER, was the first 76 from 1977 only for foreign countries? I am Italian, I have a model with an alcohol lamp so it is a first series that came to Italy even if it is destined for the English market, obviously I have a better box and the car is in perfect condition. The problem that yours is not working is due to the use of plain water full of limescale that has accumulated in the lower pipe. In many cases you can solve with a gentle iron of a paperclip ...
I have have found over the years that filling the boiler with a 10 to 20% solution of water and Citric acid will dissolve away all the scale. Use HOT water for this and don't fit the safety valve. If it's really bad you may have to repeat the process, then give it a really good rinse out. This solution will not damage the boiler and fittings.
i understand that Mamod converted their engines to be fired by soild fuel tablets due to a nasty accident that happened in America in the 1970S but you can see way they did so in the first place
